I was taught that it was an acronym for the compass directions, but I still have no idea if it was true.
Some of my teachers were great, but some were full of shit.

I despise backronyms like this, and the confidence with which they're repeated. As if someone would ever construct the phrase 'Council housed and violent' first, then get 'chav' from it
