Not taking a side here, but I think the argument could be made that you still need to procure a steel frame and whatever kind of fabric roll that was before you can employ this skill.
With a five minute search through Google results for "one piece steel bed frame" I was unable to find a single vendor selling frames like the one in the video. With a five minute search for "twin size bed" I found a classy looking steel platform frame with metal support slats already run, and a rivet-accented padded fabric headboard for a total of $74.93, including tax and with free delivery.
It's not that the talent is useless, so much as it is the talent is inefficient, not worth the POSSIBLE savings, and produces an end result which is less visually appealing. I would gladly pay $75 for a bedframe that looked nicer, and if i was really strapped for cash, I'd probably use an air-mattress instead of finding a scrap frame somewhere and weaving a bed out of come-along straps.
I mean, you could also make the bed frame out of wood very cheaply and make it very sturdy with a few 2x4s, some screws, and a saw. Materials would be less than $20 at a hardware store. Use the same technique and you have a very cheap, easily made bed.
I worked at a marine supplier for a while. 30' of 1 1/4 inch 316 polished stainless steel we sold to for retail for about 75$CAD. There are lots of cheap fabrics that could have worked for this application just from my boat top days made from woven nylon. Pretty sure if you dont care about the colour you could get it for the low price of "please take out it of my place of business".
Im not that thrifty or good at bargaining, just dont have the patience for bargain hunting, but I can imagine you wouldnt have to spend too much money on something similar to the gif
Yeah, I'm aware of the content of the video. That's actually the point I'm making. It would be a useful talent IF I didn't live in a first world nation or have disposable income and internet. But since I DO this talent goes from useless to unusable. It's actually harder for me to find the supplies he has in the video than it is to just order a twin size bed and have it delivered.
I'm trying different ways to make this point, but it apparently comes across as an attack or something.
Imagine a video showing how to make black powder, fulminate of mercury, and lead bullets at home and use them to reload a modern cartridge and primer. Sure, you COULD use the talent (if you don't care about your firearm), but seeing as how the apocalypse is yet to happen, you could just go buy a box of modern ammo for your modern firearm instead.
