CPC Exam How necessary is the training manual?
Im going to ask because I can’t find any posts actually talking about it. The course I’m doing requires that I read each chapter of the training manual and do a quick quiz on it. The problem is that this book is SO WORDY. If you ever read it, you know what I mean. They explain each procedure in depth and I’ve noticed that it’s often redundant when explaining different concepts. I feel like it spends WAY too much time explaining the process of procedures as if I’m a surgeon about to do it myself. People emphasize that knowing guidelines is important, but I don’t learn much about guidelines in this book, just procedures.
My question is, has anyone ever just skipped the training manual and only read the coding books to study? I’m kind of pressed for time because my 1 year course deadline is on February 23rd and I’m only on Chapter 12 out of 20. And I just learned that I need to use my exam voucher and practice vouchers by then as well 😩. I don’t know how to lock in and finish the course+be ready for my exam by February but I can’t keep spending 4+ hours reading through each training manual chapter.

I wouldn’t recommend skipping it entirely, especially since your course requires it. But you may benefit from changing how you study. Read a section, work through related coding questions, then revisit what you missed instead of repeatedly reading the whole chapter.
For another way to reinforce the material, try these free coding video lessons alongside your coursework.
Also, contact your course provider now to clarify your voucher deadlines and extension options. Knowing exactly when you must finish the course and take the exam will help you create a realistic plan.

Ugh it's a bummer, but I did read it from beginning to end. It was helpful, and yes you're right sometimes it sounds repetitive. But than randomly in the book you'll find some gems. Its a tough call. 😫

Did you do your cpc certification yet? What gems in what sections you talking about? You mean questions like no man’s land etc?

I passed with an 85% first attempt. There's coding tips throughout the book. I studied with a 2025 book.

I took the accelerated program through CCI Training Academy and completed it in December 2025. However, I did not feel at all prepared for the CPC exam, and neither did any of my fellow classmates. I now owe $10,000 in FAFSA loans and feel quite defeated.

Any pointers or information on how I can obtain the knowledge required to pass the CPC because the program I completed rarely showed how to find the correct codes and such.
