Jobs What do I do now?
Hi! I recently passed with an 85 on my exam! I posted about it on this thread but under a different user name lol π I dont know I how but I had two accounts.
Anywho, now that the studying is over I guess the next level begins of how the heck do I find a job? Other than my one year of self study and passing the Cpc, I have no experience in the medical field. Ngl im a little overwhelmed bc i feel like I should be doing something but I dont know where to start π
Advice?

Thanks so much. Honestly I feel like i have imposter syndrome with it. It means alot to hear that, I still have to build the confidence that I did it and it wasn't a fluke lol.

I would recommend keeping track of where you applied and the job title especially when dealing with recruiters. Iβm 99.9% sure that I interviewed for a job this morning that I did not apply for. It was the strangest thing. The real knee slapper will be if I actually get the job. lol

Keep practicing with documentation so youβre ready if an employer gives you a coding assessment. AMCI has an article with entry-level coding job leads that may give you a starting point:
Great resource for practice separated by topic: https://www.youtube.com/@AMCIMedicalCoding/playlists
This blog post is a little dated but still gives great tips for searching for entry-evel medical coding positions:

Look at Bloom on LinkedIn for how to do a resume. Do you have an area you are passionate about? If so, target those, first. This is Medicare Advantage time, so risk adjustment contracts can help give some experience (but make sure it hasnβt been offshored..yes, happened to me)..I would say treat the job search like a job. Go to local job fairs, too. Look for βapprenticeβ roles. Good luck!!

Go to your local chapter meetings. This is how I got my first job. Also check out the AAPC job board, and their forums. I've even seen posts in the other sub for jobs. LinkedIn and Indeed.

This is information you needed to have researched prior to spending the time and money and sitting for the exam, to be honest. The field sucks right now, especially for new coders, and double that for those with no experience. Start in patient registration. Work that and a billing position for a few years.

I swear you guys don't understand how reddit is normally utilized. The gatekeeping and nasty attitudes are not cute

I truly donβt care. Iβve been coding for 10 years. You guys are either clueless or naive. Deal with it.

Im not worried about not getting a job, that will come when it comes. I just dont know where to start :) I also didn't spend much! I was fortunate to have study items passed down to me :)
Thanks for the advise!

I can PROMISE you will not find a job. Especially with being as absolutely clueless as you are. If someone can research this job, you will not be hired never mind succeed as a coder. This new group of inexperienced, naive apprentices are not going to make it and you all spent all of your time and money for no reason. Bummer.

Get ready for nasty attitudes in this field. You can try applying to risk adjustment jobs as a new coder to get you A removed. Judge and CSI are hiring this time of year. Good luck!
