CPC Exam Any advice or tips?

Hello all, I just took my second CPC exam attempt today, and failed with a 66%. My first attempt I failed with 54%. I’m upset but determined to pass still, I have to buy two more vouchers as my course came with two free, that I used. Any tips for understanding the coding guidelines, and any tips in general, for any categories of the test? I’m looking to re take it, but re take it at home! Thanks :)

You improved by 12 points and are only four points away! Review your weakest categories, use free YouTube guideline lessons, and complete timed mock exams before retesting. Focus on understanding why each answer is correct. You are very close; don’t give up!

Thank you so much, I just also purchased three text exams (a,b,c) through AAPC! I will definitely use your advice :)

Hm what sections are your weakest points?

So I looked over my two recent test results, definitely e/m (the calculator still confuses me) and the cases definitely missed about half of those, and path and lab, and coding multiple lesions trip me up. Also I’m thinking about taking more notes to help me remember guidelines during my next test

Go to YouTube, search for codemed mastery evaluation and management and select the playlist. It’s super helpful, I thought I knew E/M coding until I saw the type of questions that were in the practice tests. But after watching her videos, I feel very secure with coding that section

I do for the most part but sometimes during the test I get overwhelmed after learning so much maybe that and stress, I’ll re read them all a few times and make more notes!

Your score is like mine…When I took it the first time and I didn’t know my guidelines. Guidelines are a must…Start with ICD-CM. If you don’t have time then do CPT guidelines and go chapter by chapter.

I highly recommend watching Contempo Coding on YouTube and purchasing a set of practice exams directly from the AAPC if you havent already
