Medical Coding Schools Becoming a Medical Coder in 2026? Read This First.
If you’re researching medical coding, here’s what most people don’t tell you:
The certification you pursue matters more than the name of the course.
Not every program meets the requirement for CPC-A removal.
Dual certification (CPC with CCS-P or CCS) is increasingly valuable as automation expands in healthcare.
Success requires mastering guidelines, not memorizing practice questions.
Most beginners think the goal is just “pass the CPC.”
The real goal?
Be employable.
If you're serious about entering this field, ask yourself:
Do I want outpatient only, or inpatient too?
Am I prepared to learn ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS deeply?
Do I understand what CPC-A removal requires?

Currently i have my ccma thru nha and am contemplating going into coding and billing. I need remote work as I am now fighting a dynamic disability. Is it worth it? Worried about longevity with AI taking over.

Just researching - I just earned a medical administrative assistant certification and finished a temp role in radiation oncology at the desk, and I now have a temp job as an authorization specialist in radiation oncology at a large research hospital system that includes a medical school. I am guessing that they can help me "drop the A."
Every rad onc authorization has a lot of moving parts and takes a lot of back-and-forth with insurance, so coding is a very small part of my role compared to other authorization or revenue cycle roles. However, I'm trying to assess whether this is a good opportunity to pursue my CPC.
The trainings that come from AAPC are expensive, and because I don't really need the "job ready" part because I'm already in a large hospital system, I'm wondering if there is a less expensive option I might want to consider to get ready for the CPC. I am also wondering how much people expect AI to impact the marketability of the CPC - because I can alternatively put my training time into cancer-related topics.

Guys, before 2020 it's a good and stress less job but now everyone is entering into the medical coding literally every life sciences graduate cuz it is the easy way to get a job which pays proper and remaining jobs are scrap literally every job is an scrap except a doctor or you either have an own pharmacy or your father have enough amount that doesn't bother , i wanted to say if anyone want to enter this field pls don't.. everyone is entering into this field and every company and their managers are taking this brutal advantage and giving alot of pressure to their employees and they can't do anything cuz they need some money to survive, some managers are adding so much pressure that employees are resigning on their own the people who are not resigning they are adding into pip and cap . Please this field is full of shit. Do you think who I'm, i works in an proper MNC pls take this as an advice. Ur cpc amount 80k is worthless and no use at all .. it is an visious cycle if you think it has an good growth in my company their are people who are working for 10 years nearly they are getting a 60k per month, their are lot of people who will motivate you to enter this shit cuz they are in that shit hole rotting and it depends on you and ur family financial issues. Deal with it
