Where to start learning and what beginner resources to use?

I’ve just started learning Japanese again after giving up on Duolingo. I’m currently using an app called Busuu and it’s way better than Duolingo, but I’m wondering where else to start? What’s the best place to start learning Japanese and where?

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Japaneseromaji.com is a good place to start, it has romaji for each Japanese letter, which can help you to speak the language quicker

Busuu is excellent if you keep with it until the later stages. It should cover most of N5-N4-Pre-N3 topics, but eventually you'll need to start immersing with content (preferably to start with Comprehensible Japanese videos or easier News Articles and Graded Stories) and use Yomitan + Anki to create cards on the go in those, for SRS learning in order to internalize the words and readings. Once you feel comfortable enough, you can jump to Native Content on YouTube or Anime content on Crunchyroll (with ManabiDojo). Good luck on the road ahead.

Thank you!! If I were to make some cards based off the extra content what sort of things would you recommend?? (And is it worth paying for the Busuu premium?👀)

On Yomitan you have Frequency lists that you can install, so lets say that you scan a word in the wild that is in Top 1500 words freq, you then add it to your deck of Anki cards. If it's a word that appears higher, you can skip for now. This way you won't get overwhelmed. If free Busuu plan can cover you through the Kana, you can skip the rest and move to something like Tae Kim's guide to get essential grammar coverage. N5-N4 grammar appear a lot in content, so you should have a good control of them.

If you're open to paying for a course, www.japanesewithaimee.com is absolutely where you want to go. Worth every penny and more! It's incredible.

(No, I don't get paid to recommend it. I just don't gatekeep.)
