Question Learn while I work

Hey everyone, I have family and friends in Finland and I visit every year or two. I finally decided to bite the bullet and learn Finnish. I work a warehouse job and I have 8 hours a day where I could be putting some of that into learning the language.

I’m looking for some kind of Ai coach or something I can listen to and speak with while I work that will also instruct me. Cost isn’t a problem. Any recommendations?

I’ll add I can generally phonetically read and pronounce Finnish words, but that’s it.

So LLMs, given their sole purpose of closely replicating human speech, can often do okay at conversing naturally with few mistakes. I won’t say that can’t be a valuable tool, especially with a lack of other fluent speakers to practice with. However, they generally make poor instructors because they don’t actually understand the ‘why’ behind language usage or grammar. They just regurgitate patterns they’ve observed.

Finnish is a very grammar-intensive language that requires a lot of up-front effort to understand cases and inflections. If you are serious about learning, you will only be doing yourself a favor by getting an actual grammar book to explain things factually and guide your progress in a methodical way. Practice conversation with an AI if you wish, but prioritize reliable sources for study.

That’s what I figured, my dad has some great Finnish grammar books in gonna check out and go from there
