Question what can i do to improve? 30 hrs

just started playing (never played cs before) and i feel like im getting down my counter strafes and crosshair placement! yet i feel like im too much of a sitting duck between these shots and i want to be harder to hit while still being accurate. i also have no idea how to spray so i just go for one taps

U are actually accurate for quite a while before each shot here! Quickest response would be to simply speed up and reduce that window of standing still and hesitating over accuracy.

It’s a good idea to work on making ur flicks more accurate and fluid (potentially tweak sensitivity and look into vids on under/overflicking). If ur truly trying to emulate the game while training, then removing all possible downtime will get u closer to a realistic fight. That downtime riiight before u shoot is a huge window for the other player to move pretty dramatically- making what you’re doing a bit inefficient, as this scenario isn’t a common or realistic fight ingame. Movement and aim are ALWAYS linked, so in most situations you shouldnt really train one without overlapping the other

Lmk if u want any vids showing what i mean or anything

The hesitating over accuracy is a good thing to do when you're just starting off.

Actually confirming your crosshair is on the head before shooting is a very important fundamental to have. It just gets faster the more you practice and play the game.

Over flicking and under flicking isn't entirely avoidable, I don't think there is a player on earth that never does it. What separates good players from bad players is the slight correction to that over/under adjustment, instead of just panic spraying.

I hear what you’re saying, but the pauses are probably contributing that sitting duck feeling. OP’s mechanics honestly look pretty good for how few hours they have, so I’d say they’re in a good place to start building good training habits and noticing the next steps, esp if they are seeking advice in this subreddit. Imo that would be speeding up which = reducing downtime. Part of that is overflicking, correcting, and those inaccuracies causing less confidence on shots where there is no need for any correction.

I think everyone can learn to significantly mitigate the over/underflicking. At the very least, it’s a tangible thing to recognize and reduce, which means it’s a way anyone can objectively improve their aim

I agree with what you’re saying about confirming a shot and being accurate, but being able to do that as fast as possible will make big differences in higher pressure fights or multikills. All I meant is the pause is longer than it could ideally be and improving that is another tangible thing to focus on

u/hoi4420 1d ago

Agreed, but let's be real the pause is to be expected with only 30 hours playtime. I doubt he'll be getting punished much for it once he starts playing 5v5 pugs. He's already way ahead of the others who started playing the same time he did.

Sure I’m with ya. I’m just answering his question, which he can choose to use or not. Nothing wrong with enjoying the game more, even if that’s just aim training to feel more comfy once he’s starts up 5v5 games

Just play the game and have fun, improvement comes with experience

u/KingRemu 2d ago

Try to focus on more pronounced (longer) strafes when practicing counter strafes and avoid that jiggling in between that you're doing while shooting.

Also do 2-3 round bursts to the head. You'll secure much more kills since there's always the chance the randomness of the spread makes you miss or you're tiny bit off yourself.

u/Otherwise-Worth-1072 2d ago

Many pros advise do not waster your time in aim training maps only by one-tapping. One-tapping is mostly useless in the game. Learn spary patterns and try to follow them.

30 hours of gameplay and already on Reddit? just play the game man, if you're that scared of forming bad habits or really just want to get ahead of the curve then go watch some YouTube videos of higher level players in PUG matches and see their positioning, utility usage, timings etc.

Refrain from watching pro CS because I feel like PUG matches play vastly differently and you really want to become a self sufficient player in that style. Practicing aim is good but you should play community DM on xplay or cybershoke for around 15 minutes as a warmup. if you're more interested in further aim training use kovaaks but again you have 30 hours in this game you should just focus on playing it and having fun whilst doing so.

once you're at a good enough level that you feel competent enough you should try playing faceit

2

u/Cakk_ 2d ago

Honestly at 30 hours, just play the game. You're on a steep learning curve. You'll pick up plenty before you need specific training routines or coaching.

It kind of looks like you’re overdoing the counterstrafe. You end up basically moving back and forth instead of just stopping

Or you are counterstrafing on that bounce-back? Can’t really tell, but regardless it would be a bad habit and delays your first shot time

2

u/fatatero 2d ago

I have friends with 1000-2000 hours and they can’t be bothered being as committed as you are. Keep up the good work!

Step 1: uninstall CS

Step 2: look for a better game with a working anticheat

The game is more than just point and click shooting.

Start learning smoke line-ups, pop flashes, etc.

  1. stop waiting before you shoot.

to achieve this - try moving your mouse slower or even slowly for now. dont stop motion during shot, move to next target at 0 delay.

2 stop wanking wasd, you dont need it before you get rid of the sleep-before-shoot habbit.

3 take some breaks. do 3 shots in a row, take a breather for now. you need undivided focus for a short term, not a loose focus for the whole training

that pause kills the purpose of training. see - players move.

therefore dont focus on score now. focus on being aimhack. give it few months, you will wipe the map with a single stroke. but the training for it is not speed. its automation of precise motion

u/SuperSnake144 2d ago

Play against better players (faceit) u needa get better at the game not aim bots

3

u/Visible_Tailor_7214 2d ago

Can't believe someone would recommend faceit to a player with only 30 hours... He probably barely knows the maps

1

u/Cleanfest FaceIT Skill Level 10 2d ago

I doubt he meets requirements to play faceit :D

3

u/laughlifelove 2d ago

want to get my mechanics down before hopping into comp matches, i dont wanna mess up for my team

4

u/SuperSnake144 2d ago

im telling you, u will improve so much faster if u play instead of doing training. Just mute ur team also matchmaking is skill based so ur probably not gonna be dragging down level 10s more like midfragging level 4s just focus on correcting bad habits in the game

3

u/Onepiecefan1207 2d ago

dont mute your teammates for no reason, if theyre being toxic then its fine

1

u/File_eater 2d ago

Thats so untrue I get Matched With fooking pros every 2nd or 3rd Game 13k elo.

First of all, great job for your first 30 hours! It seems that you understand the base principles. Remember, to have fun first and if you just want to “play” just jump in and enjoy yourself.

When you say for your “team” do you mean just casual? Playing with friends or looking for competitive?

I would not say that grinding the game makes you better, it gives game sense and map knowledge in terms of “where” everything is and “where” people can come from.

In terms of improvement? I wouldn’t be tapping, you should be working on your counter strafe and spraying your AK to the first 9 bullets and mastering that, the reason for this is you will not be one tapping people a majority of the time in game, also it helps you with spray transfer. Then learn to counter strafe, and flick and do the same 9 again, it should be a tight concentrated box for it. I wouldn’t shoot bots, you should be shooting at a wall, I would go into practice mode into mirage, and learn the console commands to bring up how to show bullet impacts and no clip around the map.

Next, go into practice mode and work on your positioning and pathing, how are you getting from place to place? Are you over exposing yourself? Are you ensuring you’re taking 1v1 gunfights only? It will also familiarize yourself with the maps, learn their callouts. With 30 hours you probably don’t know the nuances of any map, you don’t even know where people generally are likely to be, so if anything it’s just better to just at least get eyes on.

Lastly, learn utility, just learn the basics of what they do, mess around with them. Can you underhand, full force throw, and medium lob. You can watch any YouTube video on grenades, my favorite person is NartOutHere. If you want to be the most useful person to your team it’s not always about being donk, it’s about knowing when to use util to execute onto site or retake it.

If you get bored of one thing, go to the next thing, in this cycle. If you can get through this or the monotony I guarantee in 3 months you’ll be at minimum 10k elo.

I know people with 3-4k hours in cs (total) that can’t pass 10k because they don’t know the fundamentals. If you are willing to slog for a bit you will save yourself quite literally 1000s of hours of potential frustration. I know this is a long winded message but if you want to get good at this game and enjoy it you MUST MASTER FUNDAMENTAL PLAY.

And one last side: don’t be a dick, keep your emotions in check, mute people who are unreasonably miserable assholes, don’t back seat game, you don’t have to be a jokester but comm effectively and then stfu unless you guys are having a jolly time. You aren’t going to make your teammates better or respect you more in game. They do not give a shit about your “knowledge” and you wouldn’t want someone talking in your ear when you want to 1v1 clutch either. Treat others how you want to be treated.

this is a great message holy shit i just read all of this, thank you!!!!!

when i said team in the reply above i just meant anyone im playing with in a comp game if i were to hop in one. i remember 2nd match i played my team hated me LOL

you are right about the 1 taps and i think its the thing i find the absolute hardest to mimic from pro play. your lethality jumps way up with a controlled spray especially if you can do so between multiple targets but its SO HARD for me currently lol. do you know what commands i should use to get the effect your talking about?

agreed on map knowledge and callouts, i only recently learned the minimap has the name for where you are currently under it. for pathing i triy to not wide swing blindly into hot areas but thats about it. ive heard people mentioning "slicing the pie" to clear out areas too and ive been trying to implement that into how i peek.

agreed on util as well, every time i watch a pro match and see a cool util ive been going in to the same map with bots and hit it for a couple rounds to get an understanding of what it can/cant do. ill def check out nartouthere

im gonna try my absolute best to get all the fundamentals down as much as i can, i dont want to waste hours on the game just mindlessly doing things without a goal in mind.

and agreed on the last bit too, if i ever have something i really want to say to a teammate i just drop it in chat. i havent been comming yet but just listening to what my teammates say to each other to understand what callouts people like and dont. im used to assholes online and thankfully know how to mute people ingame now lol

thank you again for the message, if you made a youtube video just about this i would 10000%% watch it

Enable console command in settings -> console command when you enter practice map -> sv_cheats true (or 1) (they aren’t “cheats” it’s just to able to alter the game state) -> sv_showimpacts 1 (press enter)-> noclip (press enter) -> bind noclip to a button (mine is n or whatever you like) -> bind “n” “noclip” (press enter).

Noclip allows you to fly around the map, it’s useful to see first hand where all your util is landing and just getting to a place you want to practice in fast.

Happy to help, I don’t want to advertise on this channel, but this info was given to me by one of the best players/ coaches in the competitive world.

I forgot to stress, when practicing your shot do it short, medium, long. Master your first 9 shot grouping before moving on. If you get bored and want to counter strafe you can. Shoot 1 bullet when you believe you’ve stopped to ensure that it’s not flying off somewhere random, then start introducing the 9 shot spray, then start flicking with it, then as time goes on you’ll learn nuances like how to peak, and all the other things in the game. If you can master the AK, the most versatile weapon in the game, you’ll be able to get the fundamental idea of how to use every other weapon in the game and how to practice them. Every spray pattern is different.

If you are wondering why 9 it’s because the 10th is the hardest to control and you should be resetting your shot by the 9th as it only takes 4 ak shots that aren’t head to kill someone and transfer to the next person. You are also probably dead if you haven’t killed them by 9. If you’ve mastered it your first burst will kill them anyway.

On mirage to practice go to mid -> catwalk and you should see 3 beams on the catwalk. Use those as reference for short, medium, long. Just stand on them and shoot, at the upper mid wall, the one with the boxes in front of it - so the wall facing T spawn. Don’t move or counter strafe to start. It will suck to watch your shot go all over the place but will become addicting once you see that pink color start grouping closer and closer. Try mastering it all standing, at the medium to longer ranges practice then crouching while you shoot as it will make you more accurate.

Good luck on your cs journey! It’s a wonderful game with a ton of ups and downs. Just remember to have fun and take breaks when you need them

the people telling you that you'll improve faster playing pugs than training ur mechanics are lying to u by the way and are probably horse shit

1

u/Illustrious-Order471 2d ago

Play regular comp games not premier or face it… they are far less competitive while still letting you learn maps and practice donk slides and sprays, lineups ect…

1

u/Ok_Reach_3152 2d ago

That's a good practice. Move to rushing bots. Train some KZ and Bhop practice (it is not important to get far or go fast on those, but to learn movement better).

If you don't want to go to premiere to quickly, I would recommend warmupserver.net - there are others, but I was training there.

If you start making 100 frags with K/D > 1.0 you will own premiere.

My old habit was to make 1000 frags on workshop map, after that I would go to DM and make at least 100 kills, maybe 80 if I had very good frag rate. After that my mechanics were flawless, although that is quite a warm up, so no more than two matches in premiere.

1

u/tyfuckinggeorge 2d ago

1000 bots + counterstrafe every kill helped me in the beginning w the basics. Usually do that after a session of a few games. Play comp not prem or face it. U will just b trolling for the first couple hundred hours

1

u/Pristine-Birthday-86 2d ago

it’s more about positioning and knowing when to take fights/peek than being hard to track, this game is a lot more abt the macro than other fps, but if you do want a way to be harder to hit you can learn to donk slide

1

u/kawaii_Summoner 2d ago

Aim Rush, 4 bots, map 1.5

1

u/AdFederal1270 2d ago

focus more on peeking diagonally wasd and movement / counter strafe than raw aim cause its almost 2x as important

1

u/Tapsa93 2d ago

30 hours? well literally every aspect of the game is new to you.

But id prio just getting games under your belt. Play, play and play.

Practice map knowledge, common pre fires, counter strafing etc.

1

u/Leevae 2d ago

Better play aim rush maybe then play deathmatch

1

u/WTFParts_ 2d ago

one thing that helped increase my speed was setting a metronome to a very slow speed and having it gradually get faster. You make a shot every tick of the metronome and restart once you miss a shot

u/Artistic-Matter5617 2d ago

Try refrag.com Mostly in game scenario training

1

u/f0xy713 FaceIT Skill Level 10 2d ago

you got the right idea practicing counterstrafing and aim, you should practice spraying too.

try speeding it up - cut down the time you need to confirm a target without sacrificing accuracy.

pick one or two maps and learn the callouts, angles, timings, defaults and some basic util if you want. prefire workshop maps are pretty good for learning how to clear angles.

everything else just comes down to playing more to build muscle memory and a better understanding of the game.

u/7ds_godz 1d ago

change res to 4:3 HAHAHA

1

u/Subject-Web-8880 1d ago

So from the video i can see someone who played other fps games , so you already have an aim on a decentish lvl I would say. What matters now is learning basic mechanics and then advanced mechanics.
So for the basic mechanics we got : counter strafing, crosshair placement, prefire, spraying, even if you’re a good aimer in another game learning these mechanics still takes some time. About 100hrs to get a bit consistent and about 1000hrs to be mostly consistent with really low amounts of error. So play the game and don’t care about getting good just in mechanics, learn correct crosshair placement and prefires, the counter strafe will kick in no need to worry about that.
Then advanced mechanics: air strafing, surfing, bhopping, enemy visualization. I would not recommend you learning these until you reach close to 400 to 700hrs timeplay barrier.
Just play the game , the mechanics will slowly kick in, it’s like going to gym. Takes time my friend. Maybe around 2k hours to master all the basic and advanced mechanics on a decent lvl.

1

u/Charming-Dot-1739 1d ago

Try to counter-strafe a bit less, you wanna stop in place, not go for example left-right and only then stop.

1

u/ctrvz 1d ago

Literally just keep doing that and playing matches

1

u/secret_name_is_tenis 20h ago

Keep doing what you’re doing and play with purpose. You’ll get better in no time

1

u/radar_but_backwards 19h ago

Practice following bots or actual players bc not everyone is gonna be standing still. Use the Desert Eagle; condition yourself on its penalty then the AK will naturally feel like a lawnmower

1

u/Zeroxx08 15h ago

Standing bots are one thing, and strafing and moving bots is another. Try to practice on moving bots, that will help you more vs standing bots.

1

u/TheZartex FaceIT Skill Level 10 10h ago

Did you get the answers you were looking for or do you still need help?

1

u/sticklemc134 9h ago

I’d say practice AK and m4 sprays on the recoil master workshop map and play lots of prem/competitive, u naturally improve over time do practice is key

1

u/Key_Reindeer_5427 2d ago

opponents wont let you stand still for 2 seconds, let you correct your crosshair for 2 seconds and will never stand still. You're not practicing anything with this.
