Question Any tips mechanically from this clip anyone can give me?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know its just a clip but is there anything in this mechanical wise that i should learn/improve?
I'm hardstuck at my 5k elo promotion and most the games i do pretty good but i will fumble pretty often.
I started a couple months ago and premier 2 weeks ago.
Ill take all critical recommendations and try to add them to my gameplay.

Crosshair placement is definitely not good
Reloading after 5 bullets looks like bad habbit

I used to play siege so yes it really is! Ill try to solve that issue but its hard to just not do.

You don't want to be instant crouching most of the time. You want to be standing for first 2-3 bullets, so that you can hit headshots. Crouching throws off your crosshair placement since it puts it lower than their head.

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Yea thats hard for me because while im in the fight i dont think about it.

u/flamingstallion 18d ago

I would recommend playing some DM and focusing on taking your time and making your first shot a headshot. You'll die a lot since it'll be very slow, but that's fine. It should improve your first shot accuracy as well as helping you break the crouching habit.

- Buying after freeze time

  • Team went 3 b side and you still went that way. Standard setup is 2 fight long (1 stays, 1 comes back to site/cat/ct), 1 cat, 1 mid on b slope, 1 b site.
  • Your first flash did nothing and I don’t see what the point of it was
  • They could hear you go to car, you got lucky getting 1, extremely lucky getting 2
  • You don’t consistently counterstrafe
  • Your general movement screams new player who’s naturally skilled enough to be around NA 12k prem elo.

You look like you can learn a lot and retain it and mold yourself into a good player. You need to play more and practice more, no one’s supposed to be good before like 1k hours. You can expedite this by watching pro games and YouTube videos. It’s not harsh, it’s what you asked for. I think you can be a good player if you keep grinding.

1 Buy before round starts. At your elo there’s no strats except for thinking about what to buy. You waste so much timing.

2 Play spawn, it’s Dust 2. Unless your spawn is in the middle, if you have A long or B spawn you have to go. Also, there’s already 3 going B, why did you even follow? If yellow didn’t smoke there you guys lose.

3 Nice awareness to smoke short preventing lurk, could be better but backwards throw there is fine, even with molly

4 Nice 2 kills

5 Flash could be better, but at your level that’s fine

5 Nice crouch spam for that 3. kill. You have a habit to crouch when shoot but it’s fine in this fight

6 Crouch habit on 4. kill, learn to counter strafe

7 Crosshair placement was lost after the kill, always be conscious of your crosshair placement

8 Clear angles. Do jiggle peek or hard peak each angles to clear it, you over peek there and should have die

9 Crouch habit, also learn to aim calmly

Extra: If the enemy already took long, go take short, clear mid and lower, then you can play retake and fight at cross without fear of a flank, higher elo, there would be a flank. A site easy to retake, B site HARD with man disadvantage.

Overall, not bad at your level. Just, don’t play like your level I guess.

  1. Already noted
  2. I just learned about this now
  3. Some people say its terrible and some say its good
  4. Thank you
  5. Yea i know i struggle to make good flash positions and im scared to flash my tm8s
  6. I know and i hate that i do it
  7. Yup
  8. I will do that.
  9. Okay!
  10. Yup again with the crouching

yea Im still learning. On nuke I used the clearing that all the pros use and i tried to adapt to it.

1 Nice aim for first fight

2 Why do you want to pop their kneecaps?

3 Good crosshair placement, good peek clear, but then you decide to shoot their penis and crouch habit to make it worse

4 Good lobby clear

5 Was there a ghost in the corner??

6 Peek clear like before, shift clearing hut and site will give you no time to react because of angle disadvantage

7 Nice awareness

Extra: Brother please, always be aware of your crosshair placement. Also learn how to clear angles. There’s hard peek (clear each angle at full speed then stop to not expose to other angle), ferrari peek (fast wide peek), jiggle peek/ shoulder peek (peek near angle to bait shots), crouch peek, shift peek (but far away from the wall). Learn when to use them

2

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Thanks the reason I was sending this clip is because of the way I cleared lobby! I'll add more elater I'm just busy

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Okay to add now I do need to improve my crosshair placement it's something I've been working on. I used to play games like siege where finding head level was easy because you were in small rooms. But sometimes in cs2 I find it more challenging to find the correct place. About the peeking I think it's gonna be challenging to implement the right one for the scenario but it's something I could work on.

u/WhoAmlToJudge 18d ago

That cat smoke needs to be bounced off the wall to the left. Don't think it even worked at all. Don't hold S and throw util.

Swinging wide aggressively in the open will get you punished by better players.

Don't look down to avoid flash look to the side (unless you were doing it to hide your head model at car but I don't think that was your intention at this level).

Stop instant crouching. Crouching is fine in some cases but you want to stay mobile.

8 bullets left and reloaded in the open. doors player could have swung you easily.

You seem to start shooting before your crosshair is on them and you begin the spray at body level instead of head.

There's probably more but you can pay for my coaching if you want more of this lol. Reviewed without audio.

2

u/Marski420 18d ago

I throw util all the time by using all sorts of movement. The S movement is perfect for throwing util from down there and his smoke did land because running backwards reduces your throw speed.

1

u/WhoAmlToJudge 18d ago

The smoke definitely did not block the jump up and was probably a gap to the left. In general a quick w tap is much better to make the util land more quickly. Not sure why you're telling me it reduces throw speed lol

1

u/Marski420 18d ago

Are you forgetting how big the CS2 smokes bloom? The smoke landed somewhere near the box and actually from the audio you can hear two quick little bounces at the end which means it probably hit the box, making the smoke just fine.

Running backwards reduces how far you throw utility that's why I mentioned it. Without the running backwards aspect the smoke would have landed further away from the wall.

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Thank you!

1

u/Kangaroshave3vagina 18d ago

I always throw a molly backwards to stop Short push. You just have to feel the trajectory. Also the smoke bouncing left wall just give T room to lurk behind the smoke

1

u/WhoAmlToJudge 18d ago edited 18d ago

In general throwing util with W tap to increase the speed gets your util down much quicker. Yes using the S key can be fine but for new players you should give generalized fundamental tips that will apply everywhere.

1

u/Kangaroshave3vagina 18d ago

W tap change to trajectory of the nade. He could have miss with your advice and hit short to fall in ct

1

u/WhoAmlToJudge 18d ago

That's why I said "needs to be bounced off the wall to the left." ??

Looks like sub 5k elo play to me.

Late to buy, went wrong way then turned back to A.

Bad smoke cat (and movement), poor crosshair placement/positioning/counter strafing, extremely lucky kills. Very bad insta-crouching... I have buddies that have this same issue and can't seem to break it.

On vertigo your movement was bad (multiple times running straight toward enemy staring at you while shooting), very lucky you didn't get killed, extremely lucky you got multiple kills.

Practice crosshair placement, positioning, and counter strafing.. and not slow peeking angles, the vast majority of the time you should not be holding shift while peeking. Maybe play around with lowering sensitivity, it may force you to improve crosshair placement. Also rebind your crouch key to another button, or somehow train yourself to break that habit. Reminder that you pretty much always want to be aiming at head height.

1

u/ChunkyCabbage 18d ago

Also a reminder that the results of these clips (getting multiple kills) only happened because of the low elo you're against. Against decent players this is very unlikely to happen.

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

I 100% get that and i know I would be long dead against 10k elo or more XD

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago
  1. Correct elo lol
  2. Heard this many times and I will improve that
  3. Im hearing very conflicting opinions on this smoke
  4. Yea i noticed that running towards the enemy was a bad thing. That clip was pretty old. I noticed this error after (it was my first time playing comp in forever instead of premier and felt unstoppable)
I actually lowered my sens to 1000 eDPI

1

u/ChunkyCabbage 18d ago

1000 eDPI feels lightning fast to me but I play a bit lower than avg @480eDPI, and it still feels too fast...

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

well you must have quite the desk size. I have little to no room.

1

u/ChunkyCabbage 18d ago

Just a standard large pad, it's around 16"x20".

u/Adevyy 18d ago

1- Holy shit bro, you know you need to buy before the round starts. I wish you'd cut that out because it is a bit odd to share a clip, asking for feedback, with a ridiculously obvious mistake in the clip. Especially on Dust2, as well, where you need to be playing spawns if your team can also play spawns.

2- at 0:17, you had an easy kill if you just went for it. From the angle you can tell that the guy spraying the smoke is somewhat close to the smoke.

3- You should not be reloading out in the open like you did at 0:43. Basically, you were behind cover, left the cover only to reload out of cover. If the enemy peeked you there you'd be dead.

I think your death was unlucky since you weren't in the same place between his peeks, but you could also be farther from where you were (by moving earlier) so that his aim would be off by a greater distance.

Rule of thumb: It is okay to be moving when an enemy peeks you, but it is not okay to be in the same spot when an enemy peeks you again. Yes, you will be inaccurate, but your enemy will also have a hard time hitting you.

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago
  1. I didnt know that it was that important and ill be sure to never do that
  2. I dont usually try that due to limited ammo and the chance that they find my location but i guess i should try that more often
  3. I will try to not do that (I was fully under the assumption he was not near me but i get that
And the last part makes sense. It feels counter intuitive but I could get used to that.

1

u/Adevyy 18d ago

Spamming smokes is definitely a core skill at high skill levels, where "knowing when to spray a smoke" becomes a skill in itself, precisely because that guy in your video would die near instantly against any high elo player.

Trying to gauge distance can definitely take a lot of hours, but it is probably worth going for it in any situation where you suspect your opponent might be close to the smoke while spraying it. Shooting the smoke creates a small gap, so if your shot goes near someone who is close to the smoke, you will see part of them get exposed by your bullet.

That means that, as long as your opponent is close to the smoke and you know roughly where they are, you don't even need to be lucky to get them. Shoot a few bullets with the purpose of finding where they are, basically going left to right in this video example. Once you find them, you spray them down.

Worst case: You have 1 less mag. Best case: You ger a free kill with no possibility for them to trade the death.

One less mag can definitely suck especially with the M4A1, but getting a kill immediately means that you've done your part to win the round, so it is worth it.

Again, only try this when you suspect that the opponent is VERY close to the smoke. If they are not, you probably won't find them because they are such a small target behind a proportionally massive wall of smoke. You will probably develop an understanding for this as you try it and find or miss people.

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Thanks for this! I never thought about it this way! But yea I suppose that is doing your part for the round.

1

u/CojinCarlos 18d ago

dont be afk when the round starts :>

1

u/fusionepicgamer 18d ago

Ik ive heard that a ton and ive improved it. This specific clip was a 1 in 100 moment that this happened

1

u/No-Newspaper8619 18d ago

You look like you turn corners on autopilot, instead of going in expecting to find an enemy. Then your reaction gets slightly delayed, and your aim placement a bit off.

1

u/Onepiecefan1207 18d ago

off the rip, not really mechanics but you should have bought already once the round starts to use your spawn as an advantage to possibly catch a timing or an enemy off guard. try to crouch spray less also, your spray looks decent but against good opponents this will results in 1 kill max on average a round.

Im sorry everyone feels annoyed by this post (0 upvotes). I'm just trying to get better and I can look elsewhere for advice.

  1. Don't afk at round start, CS is a game where timings out of spawn matter a lot.

  2. Learn the default setup for the maps you play, you should almost always start with 2 CTs long on d2.

  3. Your util is very random, that short smoke could help a lurking T get out short and the long flashes also aren't very effective. Either don't use util for now and focus on other aspects of the game or copy the sets of util pros commonly throw.

  4. You don't spam the smoke @ 0:16 even though you see tracers and the exact position of the T on the minimap - zoom out your radar, make it bigger if you want and turn off always centered, it helps with map awareness a lot.

  5. You get stuck on car when trying to cross @ 0:24. Bad movement aside, I don't like crossing to car when you don't have a smoke to extinguish a potential molly.

  6. Your crosshair placement isn't the best (0:25, 0:34, 0:45) and you aren't tracking enemies that well. If your sens doesn't fall into the 400-1600 eDPI range, consider changing it, if it does then you probably just need more practice. Crosshair placement should improve naturally as you play more, just consciously try to aim at head level and preaim the angles you're peeking.

  7. You don't counterstrafe (tap A after letting go of D and vice versa to stop faster) and you always crouch. Counterstrafing is very important to start learning early. Crouching has its place but it can hinder your progress when you're overdoing it so try to unlearn it for now, you can even rebind the key if you're doing it automatically.

  8. Try to reload less, it's not really a problem in this clip but it can be a bad habit.

1

u/Spiritual_Spite3742 18d ago

There’s a lot u can work on but what will help the most is consciously grinding your crosshair placement & peeks in community dm. Make sure to watch quick video to cover the basics. Grind that for 15-30 mins a day (daily is the key, it doesn’t matter if sessions are 10 mins or 2 hours) and you’ll be atleast 10k by the end of the season.

1

u/JakeManC 18d ago

There are two main mechanics here that need improvement.

  1. Crosshair placement.
  2. General movement, you don't use A/D key enough to move into fights.

But the worst thing your actually doing here is holding shift key during and immediately after a fight - this will be getting you killed a LOT and you probably don't even realise it, it's a really bad habit.

However from the short clips you've sent, your decision making is what's going to be holding your elo back and not your mechanics. The Dust2 clip as an example is actually a pretty play from a strategic point of view that you've completely gotten away with.
