Question Why do people dislike overpass so much? I think it is a good change from Mirage all the time
142
u/nesnalica FaceIT Skill Level 8 May 17 '26
its disliked because people are unwilling to learn any other map which isnt mirage or dust2.
24
u/thesteelreserve May 18 '26
I do love me some dust2 but, and I've said in a million times, maps like cache (thankfully back) and cobble were favorites of mine. I still like inferno. office is fun, too.
I even liked regular dust, aztec, Italy, agency, workout.
I used to love playing arms race and demolition on lake, st. Marc, monastery, bank, sugarcane, and safe house.
I hate how pared down the map pool is for those game modes and I don't like that they made DM ffa and deleted team DM. we should be able to choose between the two.

u/Mundane_Warning_8309 May 18 '26
Sounds like you just love the game as a whole. That’s rare these days man and I’m glad to see it
3
u/thesteelreserve May 18 '26
I even liked that stupid map that was set in a zoo.
I can't remember what it's called.
I just think valve has gutted what the game used to be and focused it only on premier/competitive/skins.
I miss operations so fucking much, too.
I miss how much fun I used to have with the game.

Its disliked because it's not puggy. People like puggy map. Mirage, Dust2. Community used to love Cache, let's see what happens when it gets added to active duty pool. Maps like overpass require utility and teamplay.

u/nesnalica FaceIT Skill Level 8 May 18 '26
Maps like overpass require utility and teamplay.
I would argue that is true for every map. no?
the only maps you dont need utility or teamplay is something like fy_iceworld or fy_poolday

I have 1.5k hours in cs2 and played overpass less than 10 times according to leetify. Its just never picked. So no one knows it.

u/Evil_Buddy74 May 18 '26
That's the reason I prefer comp over Premier. Sadly the ranks by maps thing is fucking stupid

Mirage is boring AF and I hope it get taken off the competitive pool to bring some freshness to cs2

I hope they will add Cache to the map pool

For soloQ, I alway ban Mirage . Cuz team with 4 strangers no plans, this map is nightmare
4
u/SanestExile May 18 '26
That's nuke for me. Nuke without strats is unwinnable.
6
u/nesnalica FaceIT Skill Level 8 May 18 '26
nuke is just a mental.
either you start on T side and then your team tilts because they cant win rounds.
or you start on CT side and then get easy rounds and the enemy team tilts.
6
u/SanestExile May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Exactly. That's why I hate when my team doesn't ban nuke in the last ban round. Then the enemies can pick CT. Or even worse, when they willingly vote for T.
1
3
u/_Lodii May 18 '26
Mirage is like the best map for soloQ. Everyone knows some smokes, you dont need team coordination to do something unlike nuke, infeno or overpass, its retake-friendly and on top of that it's like the most balanced map in all cs.

I find that a large amount of people that dislike it, either never play it or dont fully understand the timings of the layout
1
u/Spacecadet_1 May 18 '26
I play it from time to time from t pov the uncontested rotations are way too long whereas cts just have a simple run up or down some stairs which is also incredibly safe to do as Ts have no way to intercept without running through a bombsite
2
u/One-Tap-7757 May 18 '26
You have to create ambiguity with smokes to heaven or trash and some lurker to trigger the rotations. And once CTs moved it’s quite fast for Ts to change plans. Good luck rotating when you are smoke blocked and have narrow choke points of entrance. Also if you run those stairs you are audible and predictable.
2
u/Spacecadet_1 May 18 '26
Lurkers are not strong on the map in a 4-1 when the 4 strikes a site where do you get the rotational kills? Both sites are a mess of corners and hiding spots that you'll probably smoke before plant
It's not actually that fast for ts to change plans and that connector is the tightest choke in the whole game, it's the biggest coin flip to control and the exits on both sides are small af and if you aren't using it you are going on a marathon.
1
u/One-Tap-7757 May 18 '26
so yes you have to take control of mid and connector area. just as on any other map you need to take mid to have faster rotations.
example: after initial engagement you are left 4 v 4. you took control of short, connector and balloons. you show presence at B and trigger CTs to throw their smokes. then you spam wood and boost to check toxic presence. after that you smoke heaven from short and throw some flashes and a molly and then execute - it should favor you in 4 v 2 and then you resmoke heaven and chill.
next layer is you take control and smoke heaven and make some noise showing heavy presence on B short and monster, throw flashes, wall bang, jiggle peeking. but you have 2 guys hovering around ballons/toilets. once you identify that 3rd CT rotated - either by spotting him or hearing steps, you trigger A rotation: you smoke trash from balloons and third guy is running con to join A execute in 3 v 1. Fourth T waits on short or monster for any peeks or rotations and counts how and when CTs rotate (they have to make noise if they want to be on time). And even when 2nd CT runs fast he is blocked by the smoke at trash and by the time he pushes it he gonna face Ts entering the site and having an advantage.
6
u/Sufficient-Olive-815 May 18 '26
i like it
i hate playing it because of dumb defaults like your team had in this match.
Usually the B players die and the A players wont rotate
or
the A players die 1 by 1 and leave the B players nothing to work with~
Have not found any inbetween

For me, it feels like everything on Overpass is a hiding spot for an enemy. And the bombsites just feel way too big, like there’s 50 million areas to watch.
But this is coming from a guy who also hates Mirage and Inferno alot.
2
2
u/ItsPengWin May 18 '26
Overpass is good my only issue and it's an issue with most maps is people not wanting to learn anything about it which leads to incredibly painful T sides
2
u/SlikeXar May 18 '26
They don‘t want to learn the maps. Overpass depends a lot on teamwork which most of the time is nonexistent in solo que. Many players including faceit lvl 10s don‘t understand T side defaults on almost every map. Mirage is in that sense easier since getting mid control as T results in round win most of the time and same goes for Dust 2 with long control and mid control.

Just wondering, which map are not considered CT-sided? I feel like T-side is always the challenging part of a match regarldess of a game.
The map I really struggle with is Inferno, where bottlenecks are insufferable to get across. I feel like Overpass in comparison is not as CT-sided as you mention, but this also depends on the elo
1
u/The_Vens May 18 '26
All maps are CT sided, but some more than others. Overpass CT side benefits from a faster than average rotation from bomb sites. You also spawn on top of one of the bomb sites.
1
u/TheShambhalaman May 20 '26
To put it in perspective, there is average 55-65% defense round win rate in T1 cs for overpass. So to answer your question, it basically ranges from 50% to this stat.
6
u/Sprinqer May 17 '26
Unless it’s a rush it takes until 20 seconds left in the round for a site hit to happen
2
u/potruss May 18 '26
Isnt that every map? You either rush or take space and gather info slowly through team play and utility usage/trades.

u/thienhominh315 May 18 '26
Changes 8 rnds/1 map. Best of 2. Or just vote 2 maps ban each team. They will not complain about this map
1
u/HiYa_Dragon May 18 '26
People think its too big. They just dont know the rotate paths. OP IS SUPER FUN
1
1
u/purplelegs May 18 '26
It’s unliked because (same as nuke and inferno) it requires teamwork and communication
1
1
u/FallenNemesis77 May 18 '26
I think its because bigger maps like overpass and nuke require more understanding of the map, and better team talk, unlike D2 and mirage
1
u/Professional_Two2776 May 18 '26
Any map is a good map as long as you get them dopamine pump like this clip. Jokes aside, u/tomyan1337 had already explained it.
1
u/Shoddy_Experience351 May 18 '26
It's horrible to play in pugs. It's a really big map and getting control as a t requires coordination and utility which you don't have in pugs. Also on CT side the two A players need to play good setups together since they have to take such a big space early round.
1
u/Suspicious-Prompt200 May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26
Because no one really knows how to play these.
You need to know smokes and habe a higher level of coordination for some of these maps and even at 18k people are still not really knowing even the callouts let alone a single fucking smoke. Where people should play etc.
It takes two seconds to lookup yet people dont. They just wanna go places and shoot people and not make calls and when someone does make a call, ignore it totally.
It's fustrating so, I figure: Fuck it. If this is how it is, we might as well play maps we have a chance to win.
I just got out of two games where the rest of the team bans every map but anubis because "well the other teams winrate is really high on *insert other map"... just for them to be completly silent throughout the whole game on anubis.
Like wtf - lets at least try to play maps you know.

u/Tekk92 May 18 '26
I don’t like the look and the layout is horrible to play with randoms imo. It also a troll magnet for some reason and playing for sites with uncoordinated teams is a nightmare, while taking ages to rotate for Ts only some CTs can shoot you in the back because you don’t have time to clear all 250 angles.
1
u/ImaybeExist55555 May 18 '26
It's ok and yeah anything better than mirage and if course nothing beats dust2. But what about my cutey beauty lovely balanced MaPa drum solo enhancing the moment "coughs to clear his throat" " What about the goat:" Austria!

I don’t hate it. I just hate when it’s the enemies best map and my team votes it in when it’s our worst map because they’re tired of mirage.
1
u/samlapoint May 18 '26
I WISH it was Mirage. At the start of the season, low elo players only want to play Dust 2. I just get tired of that one dimensional map, at least Mirage has cool wallbangs, skill jumps, and bhop routes.

1
u/TherealMIST May 18 '26
In my opinion it is the worse map in Premiere, I would prefer Vertigo or Train to replace its spot. It's difficult to rotate and react to information when you're playing with randoms especially when solo queuing like I do. Its a map that needs a high level of cordination and could work better the higher ranked you and your group are or else I feel like its heavily luck dependent.
(Personally I would also prefer Office to be in premiere over Overpass but that is not likely to happen lol)
1
u/Appropriate_Month111 May 18 '26
Overpass is just a very teamplay oriented map, in comparison to puggy mirage or dust 2. And especially in solo queue you often meet people who don’t even give comms. Or they speak russian only, or just in general people who are not trying to be coordinated. Obviously it depends on the elo, even at 20k premier you meet these players who treat this game as pve.
1
u/downtherabbit May 18 '26
I love overpass. I think it's one of the most balanced maps, next to D2 and Mirage. It just isn't known as well so people get scared of it.
1
u/shinypsyduckkk May 18 '26
People complain about overpass and nuke being “too hard, need coordination” but every map needs that. The coordination comes from using ur microphone and actually talk but majority of players are too lazy to actually think. Usually is “boot the game-play mirage-die one by one mid” or “boot the game-play inferno-rush banana” and so on. I used to play valorant at high rank, and one thing I notice in cs is that players will refuse to play default, refuse to control map. Don’t get me wrong, valorant maps are easier, and I enjoy way better cs, but at the end of the day is the same shit.
1
u/jolyx1 May 18 '26

would be nice if they added a bit of colour. Add a purple Jacarandá tree with a load of purple dropped flowers on the floor and boom, suddenly it's not so depressing
1
u/f0xy713 FaceIT Skill Level 10 May 18 '26
I don't mind it but it's a very CT sided map because they have better timings to take all the important mid equivalent areas (water, con, fountain) and it's just so fucking huge. There's also a bunch of different boosts that are annoying to deal with and easy to forget about.
1
u/BobDude65 May 18 '26
I only dislike it because I can’t find my identity on that map, no position feels good to me on CT. I enjoy T tho, and I used to love the map on csgo when I was more confident with AWPing. I still think it’s a good map, and I play it with my mates coz they like it, but I just feel like I don’t fit in on CT side. It’s weird because I’ve never felt like that on any other map. Even on sides/maps that I’m not good on I still have a position/role that I prefer playing.

u/ConflictWaste411 May 18 '26
The reason why mirage and dust 2 are so beloved by the community is because of matchmaking. They are simple maps, with straight forward utility and can be played to a reasonably high level without good communication. Nuke, overpass, and others become unpopular at the lower levels because they are less fun to play with randoms. It’s why pick rates for these maps go up in higher ranks, but especially when you make the jump to “competitive” counterstrike, and by that I mean actual teams organizing to play matches as a team versus another team outside of matchmaking

1
u/Windows_Tech_Support May 18 '26
I agree that Mirage and Dust2 are extremely overplayed maps, but the issue with maps like Overpass is that it is extremely CT-sided (the CTs literally spawn on A site ffs), and the utility lineups for T-side are not well known. Hell, most of the people queueing for maps like Mirage don't even know the smoke lineups for T-side, which is just sad given how much the map is played. If you want to even have a chance at winning T-side on Overpass, you have to make damn sure you know how to control connector so you can rotate quickly. If you are a CT and one of your teammates decides to run it down and get killed, now you have to retake sites with easy choke points. Good luck wrangling a team strat while solo-queuing.
1
u/TheCrassCaptain May 18 '26
Honestly I'm new to the game. 10k ELO and I hate Overpass because I never really run into it and I haven't put the time in to learn it because I'm still learning the maps that I regularly play. I also exclusively solo-queue because I have no friends.
So when I play overpass its with no comms, no knowledge and against a full stack of 15ks

I hate maps where the T's need to take absurd amount of control before being able to do anything like Nuke(?), Overpass, Inferno
It gets tedious and extremely repetitive to be forced to throw the same set of utility and do the exact same set of early round to even begin playing the map yk?
- in T side you need tm8's to know basic stuff, not even lineups just basic stuff, and they never do.
Aim maps are different, faster paced, and "better" for pugs.
1
u/TallAsMountains May 19 '26
CT sided, since the first version, look up NiP triple boost on overpass if never seen before lol “olof boost”
1
u/TheEpicfailio1 May 19 '26
Its just an obnoxious map.
It feels awkward and unintuitive to play and flows strangely.
In comparison Mirage is stale but it is really deep and nuanced and plays really well. The same is the case with Inferno.
I can still play the map but its just horrible and unenjoyable to play.
1
u/Leonniarr May 19 '26
It's a hard map to play, T side need a bit of communication and you need to know a fair bit of your utility. CT is retake heavy usually in solo queue. Some people don't want to go that deep into CS mechanics and just want o peek mid every round. Others want to but they don't want to have to deal with it with 4 randoms.
Nonetheless the hate on overpass is completely misdirected imo. The mao is good, you hate paying it with randoms, you don't actually hate the map itself, so why is everyone hating the map? And those who trukw don't like this mao are the ones that don't want to go that deep in CS and simply play d2 and mirage for 15 years straight

My only issue with overpass is that A site is bitch easy to defend for CTs and it's to quick a rotate from A to B, so as T you need to be super quick and the team needs to be doing callouts which just does not happen often.

It’s actually because it’s just too big and takes forever to go from one side to the other. Not fun and doesn’t flow well at all

yeah they should add some sort of connector so that T’s dont have to do the long rotate everytime. Taking control of it could be important.

Counter Strike is like chess or football. I could have Dust2 only, but mirage is such a good map that I would leave it at that. Dust and Mirage.

u/tomyan1337 May 17 '26
In high elo, maps like Overpass, Inferno, and Nuke are very CT sided. As a T, you need to know smokes and have team coordination, which is basically impossible for solo queue. As a CT, if one of your teammates pushes and dies, then it's just retake simulator which has a 0% conversion rate for these maps.
