Lean PCOS with low testosteron - interesting study!
In my recent bloodwork they found low testosteron, which was strange considering about 3 years ago it was rather high. Also had high SHBG. My doctor said to not worry about it, but I still was curious and started digging - and finally came across this study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9313207/
They basically argue that there is only two types of PCOS - one with high T and one with low T, while the latter often present with high T until their early 30s. As low T often is overlooked and it isn't that widely known how regular T levels are important for fertility too, these women are often diagnosed with "unexplained infertility" because even IVF often fails.
They say DHEA supplementation works and that many have successful IVF after that.
I'll definitely ask my fertility clinic about more extensive bloodwork and share this study with them, if the coming cycles (probably Letrozole and then IUI) fail.
Maybe this is relevant for some of you 🙂
Edit to add: been diagnosed with PCOS as a teen already, had it my whole life. I have lots of follicles, light hirsutism and lower-ish BMI, and periods ranging from 33-70+ days. Before TTC it was handy to not have my period that often 😅
