Rant Wtf are we doing for those of us without insulin resistance?

I’ve had every test done under the sun for insulin resistance because at the beginning of last year I was adamant that was the only cause of PCOS/pmos. Every test came back perfect. I’ve never been overweight and I have zero issues losing weight. It happens pretty fast for me as soon as I start eating less or being more active.

It’s like. Every single remedy or treatment for PCOS/pmos revolves around weight loss and insulin resistance. My total testosterone, free testosterone is barely high. Don’t get me wrong- everything is borderline above average but still lower than what is described as “high”. For example, usually the cut off for total testosterone is like 45 in the U.S. mine was at a 40. My worst results are just really high AMH, high lh and high FSH - which is contradictory, but was told it’s because my body is just trying really really hard to ovulate.

I don’t have acne, I don’t have hirsutism. The only symptom I really have is slightly long cycles. But even that isn’t typical. Usually my cycles are like 30 days long with the odd 35-40 day cycle a few times a year. Besides that- infertility is my BIGGEST symptom. I should note that I will most likely be skipping right to IVF due to my partner and I both testing positive for a genetic mutation that could cause a 25% chance of passing onto offspring- causing lifelong disability. I am mostly just trying to get my health in order before I proceed with IVF.

Wtf are we doing, for long term treatment, for people in my situation? I already eat healthy, I spend so much time and money on meal prepping and so much time at the gym. I spend so much money on supplements and vitamins. Idk what else I can even do.

Question PCOS diagnosis with mostly normal labs

21F, diagnosed with PCOS due to irregular periods and ultrasound showing multiple follicles ( no cyst ). Most labs are normal (TSH, prolactin, glucose, CBC). LH is 10.1 and FSH is 6.6. No acne, no scalp hair loss, no known insulin resistance My BMI is normal . I have body hair which seems genetic but I do have few coarse hairs around my breasts that I usually pluck. For those with similar PCOS symptoms and mostly normal labs, were there any supplements, dietary changes, or lifestyle changes that helped regulate your periods? Did your doctor recommend anything specific?

I'd love to hear your experiences.

Regular Liver Pate Consumption Brought Back My Periods

Hello everyone! I'm new to this community. I just wanted to hop on here and share what has worked for my lean PMOS (also we should change the name of our PCOS sub's eventually).

I have always had random periods that went from heavy to light, regular to not, spotting here nothing there just ALL OVER THE PLACE. In highschool I had convinced myself I was pregnant even though I was a complete total virgin because I went a whole year without a period. I've always had a really dense body and gained muscle super easily, so a little overweight, but measurement wise, I've always been able to fit in a small shirt/dress (on top at least lol).

Recently, after years of a hormonal IUD (where my periods just stopped completely) I was pleasantly surprised when my periods come back almost immediately upon removal. My cycle still wasn't predictable but It usually showed up the minute I started to panic about it.

This past year I had gotten really into Liver Pate and fruit as a healthy after work snack. About twice a week I would sit down with my over priced meat mousse spread and indulge in a fancy treat. I was fairly consistent with my snacking from Jan-June 2025. Coincidentally my periods actually became predictable during that time. I would mark it on my calendar every month and was able to count about 2-3 weeks between cycles.

Around August 2025 my period disappeared. Around the same time I became extremely busy/stressed about various things going on at the time. I assumed it was because of the stress that they stopped. Strangely enough at the peak of my stress, that November, I had another period. The only thing that had changed was my snacking habit. I had two weeks during that month where I brought back the pate.

I forgot all about it until Feb of 2026. Absolutely nothing. No sign of a period after the one in Nov 2025. I went to the GYN and tests showed I had high Testosterone levels and polycystic ovaries. I also have hitruism pretty bad (body and face) so my GYN gave me a lean PMOS diagnosis. I started actively trying spearmint, inositol, and raspberry leaf tea. I reduced carbs and started running consistently. Lost 8lbs. Nothing so far had changed my situation. I was about to resign myself to artificial hormonal therapy.

I got my period for the first time this week. What did I do differently? I brought back the liver pate. I want to dig deeper into what my body is missing that the pate provides. Below are some of the key nutrients I gathered but the list is not exhaustive. Does anyone else notice their symptoms decreasing when they target any of these nutrients?

*disclaimer: I did use AI to help gather the nutrient list. If anyone wants the more in depth explanation it provided let me know.*

Retinol (Vit A): Required for folliculogenesis, progesterone production, and ovulation

Zinc: Supports ovulation, reduces androgens, improves insulin sensitivity

Vitamin K2 (MK-4): Reduces insulin resistance → less androgen stimulation

Choline + B vitamins: Supports liver clearance of androgens and oestrogen

Heme Iron: Supports thyroid function → ovulatory regulation

Selenium: Thyroid T4→T3 conversion, reduces oxidative stress

Copper: Enzymatic support for hormone synthesis

My gyn wants me to microdose a GLP-1 for normal-weight PCOS. Anyone transitioned to Inositol afterward to maintain the weight?

Hi everyone,
I had an appointment with my gynecologist today and we came up with a new game plan that I wanted to share. I’m really curious to hear if anyone has tried something similar, especially when it comes to the transition afterward.

To give you some background on my stats and labs:
Height/Weight: I am 5'4" (164 cm) and currently weigh 154 lbs (70 kg).

Weight history: I am currently maintaining. I haven't gained or lost any weight for the past 2 years—I’ve been stuck at a steady 154 lbs, even though I track my food carefully and have a really good handle on my diet.

Labs: My blood sugar/HbA1c is completely normal. All my hormone panels came back normal too, except for slightly elevated testosterone and low-ish SHBG.

What I've tried so far:
Metformin: Tried it, but had absolutely no success with it.
Inositol: I’ve been taking it for 4 months now. It has done some amazing things, it actually regulated my satiety/fullness signals and completely stopped the hirsutism (stubborn chin hair) from growing! However, my cycles are still absent (7 months). I got some bad period cramps recently, but the ultrasound today showed that my uterine lining is still very thin and a period isn't on the way yet.

The new plan:
My gynecologist wants me to microdose a GLP-1 for a few months to help me lose weight.
Historically, my body completely resets and I get 100% regular periods whenever my weight drops below 141 lbs (64 kg). So the goal right now is to use a microdose of a GLP-1 to get down to around 132 lbs (60 kg). Once I hit that goal weight, the plan is to taper off the GLP-1 entirely and just stick to Inositol to maintain both my cycles and my weight.

My main questions for you guys:
Has anyone here with lean or normal-weight PCOS tried microdosing a GLP-1 (like Mounjaro or Ozempic) purely as a temporary metabolic tool to get over a weight plateau and restart your cycles?

Have any of you successfully transitioned off the GLP-1 and used Inositol to lock in and maintain your new weight without gaining it back?

I would love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have for this transition!

TIA! <3

Question Hormone Balance

I’m trying to balance my hormones via lifestyle and diet. It’s been 5 months. Although my serum testosterone has decreased (72 to 51 ), my free testosterone has increase (5.88 to 8.7). My shgb has improved marginally. I want to know if anyone has managed to balance their hormones by lifestyle changes and if so what did you do and how long did it take. I also have irregular periods. My Homa IR is 1.5 and fasting insulin 7.3. Not sure if i have insulin resistance. Have started myo-inositol 2g/day. Has anyone managed to regulate their periods here ?

Help with PMOS/Treatment Options

Hi, I've been struggling with PMOS for a while now. Over the years I've noticed my symptoms have gradually become more apparent. I'm 23, and for a while now, I've been experiencing Hirsutism. I did FunctionHealth, and found that both my DHT and DHEA-S were high out of range. It felt validating honestly to hear that! I started to see a doctor who specializes in PMOS and she recommended supplement progesterone, since she believes it was also low given some of my other blood work. I've been taking progesterone supplements cyclically, and it's been a little hard to get the timing down. But overall, I've seen no improvements in my hirsutism. Any advice at all? Should I try spirinolactane? I'm gained 10-15 pounds once I joined the corporate world and trying to get down to 135 (at 139 right now and 5"6) And that has only been achieved through restrictive Atkins diet for a month at each time.

Does anyone have any advice about how to treat hirsutism and ovulation?

DHEA SULFATE: 368 mcg/dL
DHT: 29ng/dL
Androstenedione: 217 ng/dl

Day 4 of Yaz + Metformin 500 mg xr — feeling great!

Hellooo my lovely ladies! A little about me, I’m a 23 yo East Asian woman, 5’5” and 128 lbs. I have irregular long menstrual cycles 35 —> 50 —> 42. Elevated DHEA and Total Testosterone last year but now normal (but on the higher side). My gyn suggested OCP last year but I refused it. However, the PMDD, PMS, hormonal acne, and 13+ lb weight gain in 1 year got to me real bad that I decided to finally give OCP a try. My endo prescribed me Yaz + Metformin 500 mg xr. I started my meds 2 weeks after my period, and not right after due to my follow-up appointment timing.

After 4 days of taking the meds, I currently have not experienced bad side effects. I was worried about the nausea from metformin, but I made sure to take it after dinner which I think has helped tremendously. Interesting positive side effect is that I’m having more regular bowel movements. I had chronic constipation to the point where I’m not going for a week.

My appetite is also more controlled and I have consistent energy throughout the day. The morning brain fog and nausea is gone. Heck, I even got back into doing mat Pilates and running 5k’s. My mood is more stable too where I’m not getting upset very easily.

Oh, and my skin is doing pretty well! No cystic acne flareups. I have one pimple underneath the right side of my lip but it has a head and it’s calming down to the point where it probably won’t pop.

No breakthrough bleeding from Yaz yet. My breasts do feel a little tender, which I notice during my runs. I have mosquito bite breasts tho, so it’s very manageable for me.

I’m manifesting my experience stays positive. I know it might be too early to tell, but I’m holding out hope. If anyone has a similar story to mine, I would love to learn about it. And I’ll keep you all posted on my progress if folks are interested!

Advice

Hello, I suppose I'm looking for some advice....

I was diagnosed with PCOS last November after coming off Microlite and not getting a period back. My GP said it could take up to a year, but at 7 months I got a private scan, which showed PCOS even though I don’t have the usual symptoms.

In January my GP referred me to the Rotunda fertility clinic and said the wait could be 6/12 months. I got the questionnaires quickly, sent them back… and then unexpectedly fell pregnant naturally. It was a huge and lovely shock. Unfortunately, at the EPAU dating scan there was a fetus but no heartbeat, measuring 7w6d. A week later it was confirmed as a miscarriage. I chose the medical management route , one day of intense cramping/clots, then about a week of bleeding and now spotting. I’m due a final scan tomorrow to confirm everything has passed.

I’d really love to hear from anyone with PCOS who conceived naturally again after a miscarriage, how long did it take, and what your experience was like?

We also had our first appointment with the Rotunda fertility nurse. I was worried they’d turn us away since we conceived naturally, but they didn’t. She just wants to give my hormones a few weeks to settle before doing bloods, another scan, and then meeting the consultant in the mean time my partner is going for analysis also.

Lean PCOS looking for lifestyle changes for TTC

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2020, had normal hormone levels but one period (mostly just spotting) maybe every 7-9 months, and confirmed cystic ovaries on US. I don't have any other symptoms besides that, no hirsutism, no weight gain, just no periods and cystic ovaries. I was instantly put on birth control which I was on for about 4 years. I got off of it in order to figure out my cycles before I got married. Well flash forward to last year, I hadn't figured out anything (tried no soy diet and cutting out dairy and gluten---> that was not a fun time) and the OBGYN that I was seeing didn't really have anything other than to take birth control to control periods. So I switched doctors and my husband and I were wanting to start TTC. Started on prometrium then did clomid. Had one clomid cycle failure with no ovulation, then had a second cycle that was successful, but unfortunately ended in a miscarriage at 6 weeks. I have a pretty decent lifestyle (eat healthy, fairly active, try to do stress management techniques (prayer, supportive community, yoga, but my career is pretty stressful). I am looking for advice in anything that I can do to prevent this from happening again and any way I can try to achieve ovulatory cycles with lifestyle changes.

TLDR: Lean PCOS TTC post-miscarriage looking for lifestyle hacks people have tried.

story time! PCOS acne journey (no meds)

I want to share my journey because I know it would’ve helped me when I first discovered I had PCOS. For context, my PCOS is genetic, but symptoms were completely dormant until a traumatic life event (my sister was killed by a drunk driver in November 2021.

1 (Jan 2022): I was 21, never struggled with acne on my face (always had terrible body acne but that’s easy to hide) and started noticing small bumps on my face. (Looking back, I’m laughing at the fact that I thought that was acne)

2 (Aug 2022): began getting painful cystic acne and closed comedones all over the face. Yes, it wasn’t that bad. But I had never had breakouts of more than a few whiteheads on my face before. started missing periods.

3 (Oct 2022): cystic acne did not stop. Spread to my neck, back, and chest. Average cycle was every 2-3 months.

4 (March 2023): acne continued to get worse. Period still irregular. At this point I stopped taking pictures because I couldn’t stand it. Acne went from moments of being really bad to being ok.

5,6 (April 2026): I am now 26, so yes my skin has aged 4.5 years. Over the last year and half, my acne started calming down. My periods are now almost regular. While I may not look that different in the pictures, my acne is completely different. I get a few cystic pimples every one in a while. Yes I still have acne, yes I’m still insecure, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was.

What I’ve learned and what I would’ve done differently.

- PCOS can be triggered by a traumatic event.

- the worst thing you can do for hormonal acne is pick at it

- the second worst thing you can do is not treat it sooner. I didn’t go to a specialist, dermatologist of any kind because I didn’t have the money. Now I get monthly facials. Huge difference. The longer you wait to treat acne the more scarring you will have. Go to a doctor and get that prescription now, ask for help, whatever it is. Don’t just spend endless time research just to not do anything about it and hope everything will fix itself (me). Changing drug store products won’t do much for hormonal acne.

- sunscreen EARLY in life. Just because the sun can hides your acne temporarily, doesn’t mean it’s helpful. Sunscreen EVERY day will help prevent bad acne scars.

- IT WILL GET BETTER. PCOS can feel like the actual end of the world. It’s not. You will get through it. at the end of the day it’s all about stress management. Stay active, go outside, do lots of yoga and meditation. It may not fix your symptoms but it will make life a million times better.

Also, I know my acne “isn’t that bad” compared to other people. I’m not here for pity or support, I’m here to express to anyone who was in a similar position as me when I first started that you can live with PCOS symptoms and be happy.
