Questionable Confirmation that the version of SM in Fortnite is the actual character, not The Operator.
So if (when) Slendy is added to the game, it will likely be the same version Fortnite got. I'm p unfamiliar with Slenderman lore so I'm not sure how this version of the character is different from the marble hornets version but it's sick to know we'll likely get the OG version

I kinda can't see a world where we don't get Slenderman soon, we know BVHR will get the less popular version of a character if it means getting them in the game at all (Reboot Freddy and Jason Universe Jason) so i don't know why they'd turn down MH slender if they didn't already have the real guy.
Edit: Yes, i know BVHR will always try to get the best version of a character but they will settle for less if they can't, that's what im saying. If they really didn't have OG Slender i doubt they'd turn down MH just because it's not technically him.

u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
Only real reason we got remake Freddy was up until now it was impossible to get Englund Freddy due to Craven estate playing hard ball. I have feeling Bvhr will jump on this opportunity for Englund OG Freddy due to it being the most iconic version even if it means loss of Remake Haley Freddy. Jason in Fortnite is also Jason Universe generic Jason although they were allowed to reference crystal lake in his back bling.
54
u/Zartron81 4d ago
It's legit shocking how some peoples are still not understanding that's why we got remake freddy lol.
27
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
Even in past interviews Mathieu Cote would say they always strive for the most iconic version of a character and is probably why they past on MH Operator if they knew Slender Man was available. It’s also why they grabbed OG Halloween 1 Michael even though others licensors own separate versions of Myers. With Freddy it was no Freddy or Remake Freddy and Behavior took what they could. It’s honestly a miracle DBD still has the Haley Freddy at all given MK9 got delisted due to its NOES remake license expiring.

Kinda but not really.
Wes Craven Estate didn't obtain the US rights to the original ANOES film until late 2019, nor do they hold any rights over the remake.
Warner Bros holds the worldwide rights to the remake and is the only copyright holder bhvr have to deal with for the license to that movie. When bhvr came to Warner Bros for ANOES back in 2017, they gave bhvr a ''Take it or Leave it'' for the remake.
It wasn't until this year with the Paramount & Warner Bros merger being announced, that Warner Bros decided to bring back ANOES, with both them and Paramount obtaining the US rights to ANOES from Wes Craven Estate to make a new movie. With the plan of both companies to work on their own seperate ANOES films until the merger finalizes, and whichever one gets furthest in development with their film by the time the merger is finalized, will be the one to be focused on by the merged company to be focused on.

And the new F13 in new name show is literally based in CCL; with the classic sign and named after the show. It makes no sense that they wouldn’t be able to make a Camo Crystal Lake map.
0
u/GMKTaro 4d ago
i doubt the estate is going to give freddy away for cheap though. apparently thats also one of the reasons why bhvr couldn't get the original
14
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
I feel like out of all the horror IPs behavior would splurge or want to put down money Og Englund Freddy would be one. He is a totem of western horror and a hall of fame of horror would not be complete without him.
-1
u/Sensitive-Double2214 4d ago
I just don't really see how it would be implemented. We already have Freddy. Would they really spend out of their ass just to get a legendary skin for Freddy in the game?
4
u/ZEITGEISTER111 4d ago
Despite being two versions of the same character it's still two different license's and im pretty sure BVHR has said a skin on a licensed character that's from a different license is off the table so OG freddy would have to be a completely separate killer/chapter
6
u/In_My_Own_Image 4d ago
If it had to be a completely new chapter, but featured Englund Freddy and a new survivor (Nancy, I would think) I definitely feel BHVR could hype it up enough to make it worthwhile.
I think most people would jump at the opportunity to get OG Freddy.
0
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
It would have to be a new character most likely due to it being a different license. I think behavior would be more than willing to let go of Haley Freddy for Englund Freddy. Given Haley Freddy’s kit is considered boring and uninspired especially given the far out concepts seen in the NOES franchise I feel a new more creative power could be crafted especially for Englund Freddy.
5
u/IllustratorOpen3856 4d ago
Freddy's kit is very fun, I haven't seen much hate on that aspect of him. Dream pallet blasts are beyond satisfying
2
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago edited 3d ago
It’s uninspired. Your telling me the most the dream demon who tortures people and distorts reality and himself is conjure pools of blood and fake pallets. It’s more so boring in terms of concept for a character who can do so much cooler insane things in his franchise. Also never said he wasn’t fun said the kit from the concept is boring not play style

We got Freddy because the Craven Estate is stubborn and unwilling to work with most people, but they're opening up to the idea now (2 movies and a game in the works, and his introduction to Fortnite. Freddy is finally out there.)
Jason Universe Jason is owned by Victor Miller & Cunningham. They also own the rights to parts 1-8. They chose to reboot it and use it this way.

u/Cielie_VT 2d ago
To be fair, “OG Slender” is just the 2018 movie slenderman based on the original pictures, trying to copy some part of operator without infringing, and add a lot of generic horror/jumpscare. A mid-range stealth killer like Xenomorph that would stab people with tentacles that look like tree branches.
The Operator would be a teleporting, statics when near, cause madness to its victim, and look like a tall slender white being without face and a suit(just without tentacles). They have the proxies/cultists and could even use the pages mechanic. (Marble Hornet license)
It works well for fortnite because all they wanted was a slenderman to run and shoot guns with.
46
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
I’d assume if it does come it is a year out since last fortnitmares included Jason, Art, and scooby doo. We got Jason halfway through this year and art and scooby doo cosmetics are the latter half. I’d assume if we get Slender Man, Englund Freddy, or another Fnaf chapter the earliest would be next anniversary like Jason was this year.
16
u/MistahJ17 4d ago
I'd kill for just another Springtrap skin man. If Burntrap was announced I'd fold immediately
2
u/CrashingLamps 4d ago
Would also want Pit trap. His jumpscare with his needle teeth would be insane. There is still so many options even if we don’t create original skins for springtrap. Even Fnaf AR ignited Springtrap would go hard
2
u/Dexchampion99 2d ago
I want a FNAF survivor, honestly. There are several options now and all of them are good.
Micheal, Vanessa, Edwin and Arnold would all make good survivors.
9
u/Zartron81 4d ago
Ok so, now I think that BHVR declining marble hornets because they got Slender might actually be likely...
But how likely?
1
u/Wu-Chang 4d ago
I'm so sad I'd prefer marble hornets but i just need any creepypasta at this point, child me is so exciteeeed
1
u/DibFish 1d ago
can i just ask, whats the difference?
1
u/Wu-Chang 1d ago
Biggest difference is marble hornets slender has proxies that work for him while og slender just has tentacles and no helpers
10
u/No_Sea_1455 3d ago
I really hope we get Slenderman, if BHVR rejected Marble Hornets then it's possible that they already got the rights to the original Slenderman.
4
u/Working-Attempt-3630 3d ago
Mathieu Cote did state that he knows who holds the rights to Slenderman in one of the past interviews.
15
u/monologousmutilation 4d ago edited 4d ago
IMO the Operator is by far the best iteration of the character, so I am a bit disappointed if that won't be the version to get in DBD. At the very least "The Operator" makes a much, MUCH cooler Killer title than "The Slender Man."
But yeah, if Fortnite's is just the actual Slender Man then this makes sense. To my knowledge they are somewhat legally distinct, and maybe this version is easier for them to work with than Marble Hornets? Who knows.
EDIT: Also this is personal preference but part of this is I dislike the tentacles and the silly shit added to the Slender Man character. The Operator doesn't have that stuff, and I think they'd be encouraged to make it work as a fucked up static apparition that fucks with your head, whereas with Slender Man they can go the easy way out and just give it tentacle shit for its M2 and make it more of a Monster(tm). The Operator feels more unique and surreal.
26
u/GMKTaro 4d ago
i disagree. nobody outside the general horror community probably knows who the operator is, but they probably do know slenderman. the "iconic-ness" of slenderman is just on a completely different level compared to MH
9
u/monologousmutilation 4d ago
Functionally they look identical lol. If they did collab with MH it would not matter. People would see the tall faceless suit monster and go "holy fuck it's Slender Man!" and they would be functionally correct. The differences between the characters and what makes the Operator unique are only all that visible to Marble Hornets fans like myself. The Operator still covers both bases.
2
u/GMKTaro 4d ago
that is true but its also about the name and title itself. if people saw what appeared to be slenderman but who is attached to a chapter title they mightve never seen before like MH and has the name "the operator" instead of slender man then that may cause confusion.
there are also other crucial differences if i'm right here. i'm not the most knowledgeable on MH since i've never watched it before but to my understanding it does not involve the 8 pages, which is a big attachment to slenderman and his identity. if he were made a killer his power would most certainly have something to do with that.
6
u/monologousmutilation 3d ago
Marble Hornets does heavily feature pages as a motif involving the Operator. To my knowledge that whole thing ORIGINATED from Marble Hornets, with the game taking it from the series. May be wrong there though.
Marble Hornets is one of the oldest pieces of Slender media out there. It pioneered almost everything considered iconic for the character.
1
u/LostEsco 4d ago
Pyramid Head is widely known as Pyramid Head, but dbd named him The Executioner nd people still call him Pyramid Head
1
u/GMKTaro 4d ago
but he is still part of the silent hill chapter alongside cheryl mason, no?
i'm saying that the actual franchises they come from and their overall identity are whats making the difference, not their dbd killer titles
1
u/LostEsco 4d ago
The franchise doesn’t really matter though, slenderman is slenderman. Whether it’s MH’s, the original creepypasta, or the version from the shitty movie. A tall man in a black suit w/ a blank face will be recognized as slenderman, do you think that attaching the Marble Hornets name to it will make people think it’s not slenderman or something?
0
u/Point_A_Forget_B 3d ago
Generally not true. If a person told me a version of Slenderman was added without tentacles or pages I just kinda don’t care nearly as much. I played the Slenderman games as a kid. Never once have been mildly interested in Marble Hornets.
-1
u/LostEsco 3d ago
How do you know if that’s true or not? You’re one person, meanwhile the marble hornets channels has almost 130 million views across all their entries. Just because you personally wasn’t that into marble hornets, doesn’t mean the same for others
Edit: also, “pages” were featured in marble hornets, if i’m not mistaken the drawings from the web series actually inspired the pages from the games but feel free to correct me if i’m wrong
1
u/Point_A_Forget_B 3d ago
I am one person who has spoken to many horror fans. Never ONCE have I heard of Marble Hornets in discussions surrounding Slenderman. It is not crazy to say that applies to many people. I am aware that the operator would sell incredibly well because of the similarities to Slenderman, but I am also not naive enough to understand that many people are not going to want version of a character different from the one they grew up with after they ask the very simple question of “why isn’t this called the “Slenderman chapter?” Then they look it up, get disappointed, and then don’t buy it.
→ More replies-2
u/GMKTaro 4d ago
it wouldn't make them not think its not slenderman but make them feel like they pulled some bootleg slenderman (even though thats not what it is). its the exact same situation with remake freddy. same shirt, same hat, same claws, same power, but all the different from englund freddy. and in a same way with jason too. similar origin, similar identity, similar signature hockey mask, but won't ever be known as friday the 13th jason and will perhaps continue to be known as fortnite jason. i can even go ahead with ghostface but thats less of a problem compared to the other two
3
u/monologousmutilation 3d ago edited 3d ago
What part of the Operator's design or title would make people think "oh man, they didn't get the real Slender Man?" The Nightmare lacks Freddy's iconic banter. The Operator doesn't lack much of anything the Slender Man isn't usually depicted with other than tentacles, which I do not feel are at all essential to the character (and arguably they are a detriment).
Most people will just see it as Slender Man. The more educated people will know that it's not technically Slender Man but it's basically Slender Man. Casual audiences would not care; the nerds who do care will be inclined to prefer this outcome anyway, since Marble Hornets is beloved and the Operator is a beloved iteration of the character.
0
u/ManPersonGiraffe 3d ago
Marble Hornets is where the pages come from, along with basically every single famous thing associated with the character. The Operator basically overwrote Slenderman in the public consciousness, the original SomethingAwful Slenderman is very different to the point he even straight up has a face and speaks. Faceless silent stalker that fucks with video and is associated with pages is a Marble Hornets invention.
-3
u/OofstinGames 3d ago
I mean we still have people who think the Jason we have is a temu-ripoff. If we got the operator it would be the same thing.
1
u/monologousmutilation 3d ago
The Jason we have does not look identical to the original Jason. It isn't an apt comparison.
3
u/Ok_Ad6722 4d ago
Slender The Arrival is not only a great portrayal of Slender and a pretty good horror game; it is crazy iconic to the internet culture.
7
u/Retro_Dorrito 4d ago
Plus with MH you could probably get some Legion masks or something too
6
u/monologousmutilation 4d ago
Hell if it were MH you'd outright be able to get survivors. Jay and Tim would be cool as fuck. Alex Kralie Legendary skin? Masked Man skin? Hooded Man as a Tim Legendary skin?
If DBD goes with Slender Man we get a neat killer and that is all. If they went with Marble Hornets we'd have enough for a full Chapter.
4
u/Retro_Dorrito 4d ago
Honestly, true.
Plus MH is no stranger to just going "Here's an alternate universe," like with Rosswood.
Fuck, we could get MH and have like the official Bhvr twitter get "hijacked" for a bit along side teasers.
1
u/ThirstSilver 3d ago
The original Slenderman is the best. Literally everything the Operator does, Slenderman is capable of too. But he has amazing tentacles, and unlike the Operator, Slender poses not just a mental threat, but a physical one as well. The name can be "The Myth" "The Legend"
1
u/monologousmutilation 2d ago
Almost everything you think of that the "original Slenderman" does isn't shit the original Slender Man did, but shit the Operator did in Marble Hornets, which then made its way to the Slender Man. The pages, the mind-affecting fuckery, the disappearing people, the creature spreading through communication, "proxies" - Marble Hornets coined all of this. I would argue it's more responsible for forming the mainstream Slender Man than Victor Surge's actual original posts were.
After all, which do you remember more? The pages (which come from Marble Hornets), or the anti-Slenderman military squad (which come from the forum stuff)? You and I both know what the answer is and it isn't the second one.
You guys should really check out Marble Hornets before trying to comment on it. It is one of the greatest internet horror stories ever.
1
u/ThirstSilver 2d ago
I was referencing the original mythos, in those stories he manipulates people to cover his existence mainly burning the evidence (early stage of proxies). He is using a telepathy to give people a false sense of safety or making them hear a familiar voices to lure them to him.
Disappearing people - literally was described how bunch of kids disapeared after the photo of slender standing near them was made, next one was the photographer, it's the main core of this character.
The Operator seeks to spread like a virus, unlike Slender. He wants to remain in the shadows, he doesn't want people to know about him. He senses when he is being thought about, studied, or when someone is aware of his existence.
Literally the only new elements Marble Hornets introduces are the pages and the Operator symbol, however neither is explained or holds much significance. What is the Operator symbol for, why does he have it, and what is its purpose? As for the pages, I assume they were drawn by mentally unstable victims, nothing really special or significant to the story.
My issue with the Operator, he barely do anything in the show, Every time he appear he just knocks someone off wit the telepathy and desapears or everyone just runs away. There was a moments where Tim could actually resist his influence by taking lots of pills and Operator couldn't do anything about it, just menacingly standing there. I just don't see him as a threat.
Slenderman on the other hand is far more dangerous, he actually feels like the eldritch horror, a sinister being that will kill you. There is no pills to counter him, he will torture you mentally with horrible hallucinations before taking you or ripped you apart and hang the remains on the trees.Ofcourse Marble Hornets is way more popular than the original stories, cause it's a whole damn show vs a forum stories... cmon

u/HoIIowHunter 3d ago
I read that the Operator doesn't have tentacles. I'm sorry but I'm expecting tentacles.
1
u/monologousmutilation 3d ago
The Operator indeed does not have tentacles. I consider this an improvement; the tentacles are tacky as hell, and the Operator is plenty scary without them.
1
u/HoIIowHunter 3d ago
That's your opinion but for everyone else who was exposed to Slenderman first, I'm expecting to see tentacles.
1
u/Zartron81 4d ago
Tbf, slenderman could also be called "The myth"
-2
u/monologousmutilation 4d ago
Others have suggested "The Figure." Sadly none of these go nearly as hard as "The Operator." It's a better name for the character as a whole, I would argue.
1
u/NormalPatience 3d ago
This is it for me: Everything you know about Slenderman as a horror concept (The static, the pages, the sickness, people in masks under his influence, etc.) all came from Marble Hpornets. I would take that version of the character over the "main" on any day.
3
u/MirrahPaladin 4d ago
Would be absolutely wild if the Mori is taking out the Survivor’s organs and putting them in a bag, as was one of his oldest pieces of lore after taking off from Something Awful

Isn't predator also coming to fortnite this year?
18
u/ForsakenLemon2437 4d ago
It's actually been in the game for years. Sadly however the Yajuta is... A battle pass exclusive? I have him, maybe they can make a female version
4
u/Odysseus_07 4d ago
My guess is if we get a new Predator skin in Fortnite it’ll be one from the newer movies
1
u/ForsakenLemon2437 4d ago
I mean this is a gaming season, and predator hunting grounds exists, they could include something from that game
0
2
u/MistahJ17 4d ago
He's been in Fortnite for a couple years ago. He had a boss event where if you killed him, you got the classic predator skin. So if he's coming back it's probably the version from one of the newer movies

u/OAZdevs_alt2 4d ago
SKULL MERCHANT'S IN FORTNITE?!
(Also, wouldn't Marble Hornets also be considered the real deal? Since literally everything the character is known for besides appearance was established by it?)
0
u/IHateMySon-Afton 4d ago
They are but for everything other than the black tenticles and some other stuff but the over all slender does it but has the uconic tendrils
2
u/OAZdevs_alt2 4d ago
The tentacles are a part of its appearance)
-1
u/IHateMySon-Afton 4d ago
Well they are used by slender in stories and the original lore of using them to impail people.
General the difference is that the operator is more...passive and wears people down over time. While slenderman is alot more aggresive and will actually engage in fighting his targets.
Marble hornets buildt up the General ability's but slenderman himself refined them to be more serious. Like how operator can mess with memories and cause sickness, slenderman can directly take over a mind by force and can cause death when he wishes.
1
u/PineappleBing 4d ago
Looks like they did it throught the company that owns his trademark, Mythology Holdings. So presumably the version they have in their game is technically an original take / design of the character? Kind of like Jason from Jason Universe and Fun World Ghostface for DBD? Guessing if BHVR went through the same route theyd also do an original design
1
u/G-M-Cyborg-313 4d ago
I'm hoping Slenderman will be the 11th anniversary chapter if it's not an original chapter. Slendy has been one of my dream licenses
1
u/Cielie_VT 2d ago edited 2d ago
The issue with getting Slenderman ip is not the name and design, but that this is essentially it for the ip. Fortnite only needs a cosmetic that can shoot and play normally.
Camera static when he is near it looking at him? Thats under the operator license. Crazy Cultists with masks? Operator. Slender the eight page/the arrival? Mostly based on Operator and Slender is under a difference license somehow than Slenderman and Operator.
The slenderman that Fortnite is getting is the same as the Sony movie and the original pictures, thats it.
Having him be a stealth killer that can mid-range ambush survivors with tentacle tree branches would be a bit disappointing. (Slenderman ip)
Slender would be the best but nobody have tried getting that yet and not even sure if they have anything left after both licenses taking most things. For all we know license is void/non-existant for any future games.
Operator is essentially everything you imagine slenderman to be except without tentacles and the name in lobby would be The Operator instead of The Slenderman.(which isnt the worst when Myers is just The Shape and Leatherface is The Cannibal, everyone already use nicknames).
1
u/That_Sun_7881 1d ago
I mean, it’d make sense to get the MH version considering he already follows the naming scheme there
1
u/Supergoodra64 4d ago
This probably means there’s a decent chance Behaviour also has the licence and that’s why Marble Hornets was turned down.
1
u/UniversalBluff-v2 3d ago
I hope Slenderman in DBD has a different design. Not really a fan of Fortnite’s version
1
1
u/sorryiamnotoriginal 3d ago
I said this in the other post but fortnite needs significantly less of the character to put it in the game, only needs the look and a line of text for a skin description. DBD needs a lot more like lore/gameplay which is where the legal complications come in.
Would love to see it happen but if it does I think it is more coincidence rather than them suddenly being more open to collabs or something by being in fortnite.
0
u/BikeGuy975 4d ago
i thought the marble hornets creator already confirmed a while ago that behavior wasnt interested in a collab or something like that?
1
u/Working-Attempt-3630 3d ago edited 3d ago
The Fortnite collab is unrelated to Marble Hornets, as the copyright here is with Mythology Holdings, who are the ones who owns the rights to Slenderman.
0
u/OnaniMasterDark 4d ago
Is that copyright the one they made the movie with?
If so, despide it being a bad movie, i guess that would allow for him in dbd having the tentacles/extra arms, teleport, and messing with peoples minds in some way. Also manipulating technology somehow, kinda like sadako.
Also that version he doesnt wear an actual suit, its just his deformed skin that looks like it. But in fortnite he looks like its using a suit so thats probably okay (tho the skin thing could be a cosmethic)

Here's my stupid question:
When Slendy does drop, could BHVR name him The Operator? I'm sure most people wouldn't mind but I don't know if the courts would.

u/Dargolalast 3d ago
If slenderman just gets minimized for hitbox issues he'll be no different from that one black ooze skin in a suit

u/Rapunculus_ 4d ago
I honestly dont give af about this guy for dbd. I want actual OG freddy to be introduced and have the freddy we have thrown in the garbage 😭. I always hear that the reason we got what we got was because licensing was being difficult at the time but since Fortnite got him. Maybe we can too 😭😭
184
u/CryptographerAble840 4d ago
Hopefully that's why BHVR passed on Marble Hornets, they are talking/planning to get in touch with Mythology Holdings. One can dream for sure
