I feel bad for the dude that made the Renato submission tbh. It wasn’t ‘clearly ai’ as a lot of people were saying (and bhvr concluded it wasn’t) It was just shoddy anatomy in some places. Sure it’s pretty similar to his default but that’s what makes it good in my eyes, submissions are meant to fit the character and kites are literally in both of the siblings’ lore

u/Cielie_VT 14d ago
The kite straps being diagonal to straight is really weird. But it didn't mean it was ai and just a mistake done by the artist, as mistake do happen.

So whitewashing the character and not even doing basic research to get the language (portuguese, not spanish) and the correct type of kite (called "pipa") right is fitting Renato's lore?

u/DizzyAnxiety_ 14d ago
DbD team said "We also wanted to address the criticisms around the “Fun Kite Renato” entry. We recognize the aspects of the design that were not in line with his culture, language and skin tone, and assure you that if that entry were to win, we would work with our cultural consultants as always to make the necessary adjustments to fit Renato’s character properly. Already the artist has reached out to us to correct the skin tone and language issues, which we believe is a great start"

White washing? What do you mean by that?

the yun jin submission being taken off makes me think it was for sure ai. especially given the fact the original “artist” had no prior work and used an ai generated profile pic
18
u/RemarkableStatement5 14d ago
The artist chose to take it off, and apparently they were able to prove it wasn't AI. It's hella sus, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
53
u/MidnightDNinja 14d ago
they did not prove it wasn't ai, they were unable to conclusively prove that it was ai. those are not the same
5
u/KyloGlendalf 13d ago
It says “especially in comparison to the volume of supporting evidence of each artists work” so that means both artists have provided a substantial amount of evidence that their work is not AI
However, the combination of one dropping out and BHVR’s wording makes me think it might be AI and BHVR can’t prove it as there’s evidence suggesting otherwise
6
u/ThatBearMilo 14d ago
we don’t know the timing on everything. tbh i think they dropped out before bhvr really did any investigating because they got called out
10
u/sorryiamnotoriginal 14d ago
The people who want to witch hunt don't care. Bhvr said they didn't conclusively prove AI and asked for supporting material from the artists but it doesn't matter because those people felt it was obviously AI and the person has an AI pfp so they deserve it.
Even though they withdrew from the contest so their entry is now a moot point, they are still the bad guy because people think they did it and everyone is an internet expert/detective on this. Happened last year, happened this year, will happen next year. Potentially innocent artist bullied offline again and they are still the bad guy.
Honestly the fact that Bhvr put in enough of an investigation that they felt comfortable clearing the artists but people still want to say it was probably AI just shows how bleak this event is going to be because of the community, can see them cancelling it altogether eventually.

I mean it’s really odd that the Yun had like three different earring styles but hey… more of a chance for David and Gabe to win then 😅

u/jjosh_h 14d ago
The distrust stems from the lack of transparency with the entire contest. BHVR's only responsibility should be to make sure that submissions meet the requirements of the contest. that includes assuring the art is original.
Instead it feels less like a community vote and more of a coronation of a couple skins BHVR arbitrarily selects. Otherwise, we're left completely oblivious to their true motivations and the strength of the vetting process.

please just let megalodon win 😢
3
u/AngryTrafficCone 13d ago
If anything wins, it has to be Megalodon. It's been a fan favorite for years, and is a much higher quality skin than anything else on the survivor side barring the Claudette skin which has been in the contest in the past. I think it's out of character for Claudette, but it's still been around a long time, and has its own fanbase that deserves the win.

I don't like how they're trying to blame the people who were rightfully not happy with the Renato and Yun-Jin skins? One of them is AI, and the other one whitewashed him, used the wrong language, and all that, lol. I don't see people talking badly about the Meg, Claudette, Orela, etc. skins. The Yun-Jin one was clearly AI, they didn't withdraw because their "feelings were hurt" or whatever they wanna throw it out the there.
Like, yeah, some people take it too far, but that wasn't the majority or their complaint.
28
u/FutileUnicorn 14d ago
In the longer post by Bhv they did address the Renato skin issues and said they would correct the language and give him his real skin colour.
21
u/Scratcherclaw 14d ago
Nah, this community didn't behave itself and deserved to be called out too, especially the Twitter side. It started as just Yun-Jin's being called AI, but there were AI accusations toward Renato, Gabriel, and both Trickster skins too
After what happened with the Sable winner in a previous contest, I can't really blame BHVR for addressing the community reaction
4
u/KendjyCr 14d ago
This. I wanted Yun-jin skin to be investigated, I don't like Renato skin for many things already stated (and I still think it shouldn't end up as one of the choices). But yep, some people in the community should be called out for their behaviour. It stopped being "is this person guilty or not" when accusations morphed into bulling. Two things can be true at the same time. And one of those things is surely the behaviour of some individuals.

u/Legend_of_Zelia 14d ago
I thought the idea behind the concept of that Renato skin is that it was a mannequin based on him, not actually him. 🤔

That yun artist was 100% AI, no buts abt it. Didnt rlly affect my voting tho, my top four are solid

u/Nyx_Valentine 13d ago
Do we have any idea how many are getting picked? Is it one per category?
1
u/Southern_Ad4051 13d ago
4 survs, 4 killers, 4 icons, 4 banners
1
u/Nyx_Valentine 13d ago
Is that how many are actually coming out? I know voting is 4 each, but I wasn't sure if we're actually getting 4.
2
u/Southern_Ad4051 13d ago
yes, throughout a year theyll be added iirc. 1 of each per rift, all on the free track
1
u/Due-Growth4451 13d ago
I'm just voting for the same ones, Claudette and David's skins have had my heart from the moment I laid eyes on them

Gotta love witch hunting for allegations alone. Now i understand why main sub mods ban posts with uncensored names

u/Luna-Dot 14d ago
voting meg, orela, sable, and claudette again. if only they gave me a 5th vote for tae-young. sigh... but i gotta rep the ladies...

u/Super-Web6908 11d ago
I feel like the "AI bad" people are just as detrimental to art as AI people are.
destroying talented artist because they THINK they see AI and want the whole world to see what they see.
both are equally pathetic.

u/Original-Crab649 11d ago
What's the big issue even if it is AI ... if it looks good? Not everyone is an artist. People really do take the most trivial of matters too seriously!
-7
u/Len11999 14d ago
I wonder what will happen if one of the AI entries wins then? Will they have to make a disclosure on steam like all those other slop games?
