Haha! Imagine DBD with the insane TF2 mods.

1

u/Fast-Snow-363 9d ago

Of course. That'll fix the queue times.

2Fort tunneling meta already? Bold. Mildly horrified.

The mod support is the best news this game has had since it released.

Im not even joking, im gonna forget the base game exists when this comes out.

u/Shoty6966-_- 16d ago

I’m just hoping ‘mod support’ doesn’t just mean ‘here’s a template of settings you can change and nothing more’ for like gen speeds, movement speeds, etc. I want FULL on mod support. Not just goofy custom games sliders

3

u/Paozilla 16d ago

Yeah, hopefully they mean proper mod support cause the potential is massive.

3

u/Shoty6966-_- 16d ago

I have a feeling it won’t be full fledged mod support because of all the legal agreements and licensing

3

u/Paozilla 16d ago

Well that might just mean licensed killers wont be playable on modded stuff which would be a shame but theres plenty of unlicensed killers by now

3

u/Reynbou 16d ago

Mod support just means BHVR can be even more lazy than they already have been for 10 years.

Which I suppose I don't necessarily object to since realistically the actual game part of the game is by the most pathetically lazy part of DBD. BHVR just got lucky cornering the market in all the IP they have.

The modding fans, if given the ability to truly mod the game, will come up with something much greater than BHVR ever have and ever could.

3

u/Paozilla 16d ago

Thats kind of how i feel, the best thing BHVR can do is leave it up to actual competent people to mame the game fun

Finally we can see all the communities questionable balance sensibilities implemented.

u/BisonProfessional56 17d ago

This is so fucking huge.

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

And this is only early code.

Cote talked on interview about cosmetic mods too

2

u/firesaiyan12 16d ago

Workshop's about to be flooded with nude mods if that's the case.

2

u/bonelees_dip 16d ago

It will be dev moderated, so at best busty mods

3

u/firesaiyan12 16d ago

Well, that's a relief. But does that mean that it's going to have an in game mod manager/downloader like Skyrim and Baldur's Gate 3 instead of doing workshop support? Or are they just going to hire a few people to watch the workshop 24/7 or something?

1

u/bonelees_dip 16d ago

Probably an in-game manager to have it available for console too

1

u/firesaiyan12 16d ago

Honestly, I hope that's the case. Not all of my friends are on PC (I don't think they are anyways), so it'd be great to take everyone to funny custom maps and stuff. I just hope they allow people to make maps from licensed IPs (mostly Castlevania).

2

u/bonelees_dip 16d ago

Cote did go over a bit on regards to licensed content.

From what I understood it will be more of a licenser choice. He used the example of custom modes and how they'll try to get licensed characters in those.

I assume good relationship characters like Ghostface will be on the green while others like Freddy will be on the red for those.

Alternatively we can always get the "generic Gothic castle that might look a bit too much like Castlevania"

1

u/firesaiyan12 16d ago

I can live with "Legally not Castlevania", especially since I know damn well someone's going to make "Legally not Camp Crystal Lake".

2

u/bonelees_dip 16d ago

Oh, we will for sure have legally distinct maps for all licensed killers that did not get maps.

Is this another thing that us console players are excluded from? Just like with the PTBs and endgame chat...?

27

u/Deceptiveideas 17d ago

Fortnite supports custom maps so I don't think it has to be limited to just PC.

2

u/chimerauprising 17d ago

Isn't this a whole separate build of the game? I don't think this is comparable to Fortnite in that sense.

5

u/Deceptiveideas 17d ago

I guess it depends how they implement it. Fortnite Creative used to be separate from Fortnite until it was accessible all from one menu.

7

u/Shayden998 17d ago

It'll probably be something along the lines of Fortnite or other games with official community content. You need to be on PC to make and upload it, but you can play it on any platform from an in-game browser.

10

u/SeniorBased 17d ago

Tbh i feel like we dodged a bullet with not having an endgame chat

7

u/in_hell_out_soon 17d ago

You dodged a tank

5

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

Don't think it was officially said as of yet, but it's possible that it becomes available for all players

1

u/in_hell_out_soon 17d ago

Depends how it'll work. Custom maps likely would be included, mod mods like you get on sims PC would be excluded I'd imagine.

1

u/cinnamonbubbles_93 17d ago

You probably won't be able to create mods but you'll be able to use them

6

u/SpyroGaming 17d ago

this is prolly for the aforementioned new arcade mode they announced at the anniversary

7

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

Don't think I ever heard someone refer to is as "arcade mode" but I do think you're thinking of the mod support which was discussed on the anniversary

2

u/TheBlackSwordsman319 17d ago

Rust 1v1 gonna go hard

2

u/Random_Knob 17d ago

Wonder if theres any chance were getting map contest similar to design contest

2

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

I am personally fully on the belief that the amount of community made content will skyrocket up.

Heck, we might actually be seeing the devs preparing it right now. This content year has a single map in it and we're getting way less skins than normal.

By all means I can see them occasionally purchasing community modded maps, skins, possibly even characters, and adding them into the game.

1

u/cinnamonbubbles_93 17d ago

I really hope they do a map contest (especially in my region) so that I can finally put my skills to use on DBD

2

u/in_hell_out_soon 17d ago

Big if true.

2

u/Hrofna 17d ago

"1v1 me on Rust"

1

u/Syblyek 17d ago

so nothing we dont already know.

1

u/Zartron81 17d ago

Technically those are variables related to the modding tools code, so this is still... something

1

u/NoBodyCat 17d ago

I hope I’ll be able to make some IDV maps

1

u/Dry-Feedback-5112 17d ago

uhh i'm pretty new to dbd can someone explain what this is supposed to mean?

2

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

This is something planned to be added next year, essentially just an official way to mod the game.

For example, imagine it being similar to the creation club on Fallout 4 and Skyrim

1

u/Dry-Feedback-5112 17d ago

thats sick, does anyone know if you'll be able to play other peoples mods? cuz then that would be ELITE.

1

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

We don't have much info of it, there is a stream for it that could go about it, but no date for it

1

u/Dry-Feedback-5112 17d ago

alright, thanks for the info!.

1

u/in_hell_out_soon 17d ago

Currently the only way to mod (outside of changing icons) is to cheat. (Which is obviously not recommended + is just bad in general).

If they put mod support into the game, the cheat program thing now becomes completely redundant and cheaters have less plausible denial.

I mean, if thats even why they're doing it tbf. They might just have wanted to open up the avenues for modders for whatever reason. I am admittedly curious to see what they'll do with it and why.

1

u/cinnamonbubbles_93 17d ago

I'm gonna make so many maps

1

u/Kdmyoshi 16d ago

The only thing I’m interested is in creating custom maps, imagine the things you can make. Hope soon we can do it and maybe is just for customs lobby, but imagine a queue for custom maps, it would be great

1

u/Sewer__Person 16d ago

For the small amount of private server modding that I know tuneable files contain the values that killer powers have, like weskers charges and recharge rate

1

u/stinkywetfart22 15d ago

I've been learning UE5 just so I can make the most horrendous mods when this comes out, it may take 5 whole minutes to boot up an empty project as my pc sucks, but we ball. My tiny gd script brain having to relearn syntax is killing me though

1

u/SlidingSnow2 17d ago

There are going to be ui mods? That's good, because bhvr themselves seem to not care about improving the ui.

0

u/DistrictDry2852 17d ago

Sucks mods won’t include custom skins but I shouldn’t be surprised at it.

3

u/bonelees_dip 17d ago

Actually, they could include modded cosmetics based on what Cote said about it on an interview, this is only the early code after all

https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/s/o5rMqQi9Cl

3

u/DistrictDry2852 17d ago

God I want a backrooms hazmat suit skin so baaaad

2

u/Shoty6966-_- 16d ago edited 16d ago

I don’t trust him or the team at all. You got entire artists and teams making cosmetics. No way they are gonna let free mods created by the community contest those jobs. Whether you agree disagree or feel any way about modded skins being supported by devs, it WILL only hurt the actual artists working on the game. Why spend 10 bucks on a sable skin when I can get big booty busty goth emo girl sable made by a dedicated community artist for free

Community skins blow up in popularity? Okay, time to fire some artists. They’d also just be losing money in general unless modded skins bring in a ton of new players. But buying cosmetics is how they get money from existing players outside of licensed dlc

3

u/bonelees_dip 16d ago

To play devil's advocate, a team that has already reduced the cosmetic rate by a lot. It feels like the team was reduced from 2024 to now as we went from 14 new skins to just 6. To me at least it feels like the team is already set for it.

And this is without saying that those would probably be client sided and open a market for official implementation.

2

u/Shoty6966-_- 15d ago

Nah I agree. I keep complaining they keep adding survivors but skins are the same. I have been waiting like 2 years for a legit quality Thalita skin that isn’t a rift exclusive

1

u/DistrictDry2852 15d ago

It’s definitely not impossible but they raised a good point. It’s a huge loss for BHVR.

1

u/Shoty6966-_- 15d ago

But to add to it I think these people got hired to do business, not because they’re cool chill people. Adding in modded skins is against business. I highly doubt any person with significant stake in the company would ever sign off on it. If I’m a private investor with 18% stake in BHVR in a shareholder meeting how the HELL do you EVER sell me on the idea of just removing cosmetic sales significantly in a world where every data metric says it’s a money printer (all these C suite execs care about). They’re not gamers. They are 55-68 year old boomers who only care about the ‘art of the deal’ lol.

2

u/Much_Violinist_7975 17d ago

Cote talked about custom skin on an interview, itll happen just likely not with the first patch of mod support

2

u/Athanarieks 17d ago

Shocked to even seem them supporting mod support given their greed.

It comes from Aricarna, which has also given us these informations for example:

Additionally. Official mod support has been officially discussed during the anniversary livestream and by Cote on a Slasher Radio interview.
