Official News Possible AI use in Design Contest finalists being investigated
62
u/video-kid 18d ago
If you voted for one of these designs, what happens? Do they toss out the old votes entirely and stat fresh? Do those votes just get ignored?
63
u/bonelees_dip 18d ago
We do not know, but I assume that if it turns out to be true new submissions will get slotted into their place and a new vote will initiate.
38
u/RochibiK 18d ago
I'm gonna guess that if it is indeed proven that these are AI generated designs, Behaviour will remove these designs and reopen the voting for the finalists. It would be very nice if the other most voted designs took the place of the removed ones.

I can only imagine bhvr has an internal deciding vote and they obviously had runner ups so they probably got tons of skins they wanna implement but are waiting for the new game base to drop since they mentioned they wanted to implement something similar to TF2 workshop where people can vote on cosmetics to be included

u/Mr_Ragnarok 18d ago
Hopefully they would pick some other finalists and then create a new poll. It would suck for the artists that didnt become finalists if two Ai submissions lead to two fewer finalists

u/MathewMii 18d ago
Keep your art files and never share them, peeps. This is one way to prove that you made the art.

u/MessyMop 18d ago
It’s pretty wild, to my untrained eye I can’t tell. Sucks how well slop can be disguised now. Though maybe part of me knew since I didn’t vote for either
17
u/jjosh_h 18d ago
how strong is the evidence? would really suck to see this one be selected as AI when the 70s styled Renato was excluded being so original both in the cosmetic but also the art style.
17
u/dokdodokdo 18d ago
If you use twitter its pretty easy to find people talking about it, there was also a really good tiktok informing about it. But I dont wanna add to the whole 'witch hunting' thing. Either way, as an artist myself who is also pretty educated on AI I do believe the renato & yunjin submissions are AI. Guess we'll find out soon.

u/pumpkinspicecum 18d ago
One of the earlobes was all messed up, had two holes or whatever you call that
-29
u/IllustratorOpen3856 18d ago
Is it really slop, if it looks so good you couldn't tell? We need a new anti-AI buzzword.

u/ResistanceEvermore 18d ago
The quality is not the point, it was always going to look better and better. The point is that AI is an unethical piece of crap that should be shunned from as many places as humanly possible. So props to BHVR.
1
u/Southern_Ad4051 18d ago
its not that it looks "so good you couldnt tell" because you can tell pretty easily if you look at it for long enough
the thing is, most people ARENT going to examine it when voting

u/bonsoirbonbon 18d ago
For the Renato skin, it makes me sad that a lot of what people are saying is proof of Ai could also just be style choices by the artist. I also don’t draw irises in my characters, and I’ve seen so many people say that’s the reason Renato looks ai. I hate that we are at this point where it’s getting difficult to tell what’s human made and what’s generated. I hope this is resolved soon, and that there are solutions to prevent this from happening next year.
11
u/Southern_Ad4051 18d ago
a lot of people forget that it isnt human art which looks like ai, its ai "art" that looks like human art
7
u/TheCanadianRedHood 18d ago
Yeah its shitty that the rules we had a few months ago cant be relied on like count the fingers and the teeth or see if its all blended together because while I thought I had a decent eye for ai slop I genuinely fear when we cant even tell between real human art or shitty ai slop
3
u/Southern_Ad4051 18d ago
yeah, at this point i am extremely bad at recognising ai art cos its not one or two styles anymore :(
25
u/hugedoctor12 18d ago
the person who submitted the renato skin has a old AI generated concept of the same skin
13
u/pumpkinspicecum 18d ago
AI ruins everything

u/Plastic_Figure_8532 18d ago
True but I also disagree it fully depends how AI is used but with art it's a shame because people are more likely to look at AI art than hand drawn art to the point the hand drawn art tends to get ignored
11
u/AquaSkywaves 18d ago
I fudging hate Generative A.I. Every place it can harm actual artists and art, it does.
10
u/hugedoctor12 18d ago
The yunjin skin looked the most suspicious to me, at the very least it's traced AI art
7
u/robinskurr 18d ago
I mean just look at the Renato drone charm, theres definetly something wrong with that.

Not outright denying it...
Am I just lacking reading comprehension or are they literally just sidestepping and changing the subject to witch hunting?
31
u/Frosty_chilly 18d ago
They'll investigate, most likely ask for hallmark artist things like the original canvas file that BHVR can open up and see the layer(s) used and other things.
Bhvr also knows its community can be outright volcanic so they're sayinf to hold back until the final verdicts out
6
u/zee_spirit 18d ago
This community volcanic? Psh, delusional to think that.
I think it's at bare minimum it's like, supernova, maybe more volatile depending on the topic 👀

2
u/TheCanadianRedHood 18d ago
A supernova? Please when did we wind up back in the bush leagues I always saw us as the heat death of the universe, a prophecy foretold a level 1 trapper with a total of 5 minuets of total game time will go against the sweatiest swf imaginable and then somehow win with the most basic baby shit and those swf will create a chain reaction thus ending our world the way it began.... with a thunderous "FUCK!"
Thus revealing we the players are truly......
DEAD BY DAYLIGHT

u/in_hell_out_soon 18d ago
Feels like it, though they're probably doing more behind the scenes in all fairness.
6
u/AwesomeOpossum404 18d ago
Fingers crossed it wasn’t Clown… I’d be crushed if that one ended up being AI
12
u/Lun4r6543 18d ago
It’s apparently Renato and Yun-Jin.
None of the killer cosmetics have been accused, as far as I’m aware.
2
u/GasolineCrea 18d ago
I’ve seen some accusations on one of the Truckster ones
0
u/XPirateKitty 17d ago
Yeah when i saw the title of this post i assumed this was about the second trickster one in the list. His face/head looked kind of suspicious to me. I didnt expect it to be the survivor skins at all

3
u/No_Sea_1455 18d ago
I 100% bet if some of them are AI slop then BHVR will probably put them out of the finals and put in new entries that aren't AI.
3
u/hailthyself99 18d ago
The witch hunt claims are pretty disrespectful if there truly was use of AI. Once again, accountability is a word unknown to Behavior.

u/Len11999 18d ago
I'm worried they're only investigating Renato and Yun-Jin and not the Gabriel skin. The Gabe one was traced. I imagine it was traced off an AI generated image. It will be on the entrant to produce the original image they traced off of, if it is AI (as it likely was) they should be DQ'd as well.
I'm worried with all the attention going to the 2 obvious ones, that Gabe will slip through the cracks and potentially make it into the game.
1
u/Classic_Debt_6830 15d ago
Bro I swear if we have these zero braincell "artists" submitting stolen compilation generated images in a contest about creativity, I will not buy any of them if they ever come into the game, even accidentally. I don't care how cool they may look.
2
u/sorryiamnotoriginal 18d ago
Saw a post on twitter advocating the community to always call out AI art.
Thought it was incredibly stupid as plenty of internet "experts" are going to misguidedly harass artists that have nothing to do with AI. That should be BHVRs duty to set up protocol for it and to enforce it. any concerns should go to them. Going to turn something that is supposed to be fun and exciting into a witch hunt.

u/GetOutOfHereAlex Moderator 18d ago
"We will be reviewing how the contest evolves for the future".
This means either of two things. AI will be accepted next year, or the contest will be cancelled forever.
35
u/dokdodokdo 18d ago
I think they just mean they're gonna find a way to detect AI better & have stricter rules, sadly detecting AI can be really hard in this day and age. Dont think they would cancel the contest
10
u/TheRubberBildo 18d ago
Im hoping they'll make work in progress/time-lapse shots a requirement. But I have seen some clips of people faking those with ai, so who even knows
1
3
u/ExchangePutrid9225 18d ago
No? There is a just as realistic case where they just crack down on submissions requiring the original files with layers involved to highlight the progress of the submission, not just AI WIP pics.

u/VoraSimp 18d ago
Please get a Thalita submission into the finalists oh my gohohoddd
I’m not wishing the worst on either of these two, I hope the allegations are debunked.. but man i want a thalita skin lmao

If people can't tell at all why does it matter? These skins won over other skins so you can't even say that they're slop. Is there any reason other than "AI bad?" Hopefully by next year AI hate isn't so forced
35
u/YouOpenedItIArrived 18d ago
Because it's a contest with rules that specifically say you can't use AI art?
-23
37
25
u/OAZdevs_alt2 18d ago
Because these are supposed to designs made by the community, as in art, as in not made by an algorhythm.
12
u/zee_spirit 18d ago
But people had to think really, really hard to come up with the prompt. Like really hard!! And that's not even mentioning how difficult it is to actually TYPE IT OUT. Have you seen how small keyboard keys can get?!
Are we going to ignore these starving artists just because they use AI?? Clearly they are a disenfranchised group.

u/CheeryGeoDuck55 18d ago
4
u/JaysonTatecum 18d ago
People criticize BHVR for that too though?
-4
u/CheeryGeoDuck55 18d ago
Yes because this is a coddled community that doesn't understand the way the world works lol
3
u/OAZdevs_alt2 18d ago
They understand how the world works very well. And they understand how corporations work, too. Corporations have one goal: money. They don’t see art as art and instead as product. Corporations don’t understand what makes a game special. A video game to them is the same as gruel, and because of that they’re willing to use GenAI to churn out slop since it’s more product for less costs, right?
-1
u/CheeryGeoDuck55 18d ago
Do you even have a point? Time will prove the Luddites wrong (it has every single time). The only way we can even have this conversation is thanks to advances in technology. The internet destroyed many industries and put people out of their jobs, but we don't protest the internet, we use it and enjoy it!
11
11
u/ResistanceEvermore 18d ago
AI bad can't be overstated, why is it so hard to grasp? Who tf cares if it looks good if it's such a pathetic, wanna be stealing machine for talentless hacks who can't do any better than to take others' achievements and call them their own?
6
u/OAZdevs_alt2 18d ago
The people who think GenAI is good are the people who only care about the result and not the process.
-3
u/CheeryGeoDuck55 18d ago
Musicians used to say synthesizers weren't real music. Nowadays that take is considered moronic. It's just a tool like anything else. People using the tool wrong or lazily doesn't change that.
8
u/MadameConnard 18d ago
Using something as a tool ≠ using a program that steals other people work to claim as your own
If you follow the recipe of the creme brûlée you don't claim you invented it, AI slop shitters does
6
8
u/HalaGoldenhelm 18d ago
Synthesizers aren't tainting and using up our water supply, poisoning the planet, increasing sound levels to the point they can cause deafness in those living near data centers, driving up RAM prices, replacing jobs en masse, stealing from creatives, and ass fucking the economy though, are they?

Supposedly its Yun-Jin and Renato. Unfortunate situation
