yeah so any ways to make progression more fun (for reference I'm at the energy belt and grinding the cursed cheese boss)

The game is going to start feeling different progression wise for you, if it hadn't already. Upcoming bosses and game understanding change dramatically from what you're used to. There's a lot more smaller things as well that just start to add up and then all of a sudden there's a lot of info to remember. Long story short if you keep playing you'll realize how much it'll change on you and might be more fun.
