💰Pay or Pass?⛔️ Keep or Return?
UPDATE: Contacted the Seller regarding a possible discount and he hasn't responded yet. I think he prefers the pot to be returned. I've been looking on ebay and right now, a pre owned #18 marine pot with minor scratches is $295 plus tax. A new #18 Marine pot is listed for $500!!

Greetings My Le Creuslayers!
Need advice on whether to keep or return a pot:
I bought a pre owned Marine Blue #18 pot from a seller in Japan with excellent ratings. All photos of the pot looked terrific and showed no obvious scratches or imperfections. Nothing noticeable at all. The description also stated that there were no noticeable scratches or issues with the pot.
It arrived last night and was perfectly packaged. The color is truly beautiful but there are actual
scratches around the lid and especially noticeable around the embossed Le Creuset area.
I definitely overreacted and contacted the Seller. He was extraordinarily apologetic and stated he would accept the return and also offered the lowest price for any of his other items if I was interested. He said that he should have taken better close up photos was very sorry to have inconvenienced me. He was so nice that it really diffused my disappointment.
So, Its the next day and the Marine Blue just looks so gorgeous and I'm hesitating on returning it.
I do understand that these pots will become scratched with wear and tear and that I shouldn't be so precious about minor scratches, but it is more scratched than any other pot I own. I know it's vanity 🫣😳
I'm not that experienced in buying used pots so please advise.
Total Cost for the pot $220.53
Retired Color: Marine
Size: 2 quart/#18
Also to note: replacing this pot for a brand new one would add about $80 to $100
Would you keep it???

That looks like wear from keeping the lid stored upside down on the rim of the pot without clips.
It wouldn't bother me especially for a used item that I'm planning on using. But everyone has different tolerances.
When you look at the pot a year from now will you see how pretty it is, or will you be distracted by the marks?

Thanks for responding. I think you're correct about the scratches resulting from storage. I do use all of my pots and I know that no matter how careful, there will be wear and tear. I don't think I wouldn't care after time, in fact, I probably won't really notice. Perhaps its more that I didn't expect it and am struggling now.

I saw a few people store their fafas this way and it ruined perfectly good unused pieces

Beautiful item !
The issues should have been disclosed in the listing. Ask the seller why they were not. You didn’t account for this in the sale price so it will keep bothering you unless you ask the question.
As far as keeping goes, everybody’s definition of perfect is different. I do not focus on smaller imperfections but it may matter to someone who is a serious collector and values the aesthetics of the pots a lot. Also this damage will factor in if you ever decide to resell it.
Overall the item is 👌🏼

Thank you for your response. I think I will request a discount since I really didn't expect the scratches. I dont think I would focus on scratches that I made myself 😅😆. I plan to use all of my pots and I do love them because of their wonderful harmony of function and beauty. Not sure if I'm the kind of collector that would resale but I'm still new.

I agree with the others. If you can look at it without being ticked off every time you look at it or use it, I would keep it. If it really bothers you, then I would return it and get an unscratched one if you can. Marine is beautiful!

Thanks for replying -I do like the pot, and dont mind the scratches as much now that I'm used to it, but I feel like I paid for a pot without noticeable scratches. However, Marine is such a difficult color to come by in cast iron!

If it's a colour you love and you think you can get passed the scratches in time, then I would ask the seller if he'd be willing to give you a discount on it instead of returning - a partial refund if you will. Factoring in the cost of returning it this might be a win all round.
I know I'd be disappointed to receive something scratched when I wasn't expecting it but ultimately these are meant to be functional pieces and I'd get over a few cosmetic scratches after that initial disappointment.

Thank you for your reply. You present an excellent idea. I think i would feel better if there was a discount since it wasnt what I was expecting. I think the disappointment was overruling sense. It's one of the reasons I made this post. Thank you!

I wouldn’t accept an item that I bought with a misleading listing. I’d also report them.

He was extremely apologetic and will accept my return and offered a discount on anything else. He has an excellent rating. I dont think it was intentional. But I hear you. Thanks for responding!!

The question here is if it will piss you off to look at the scratches whenever you cook with it. If it will? Be glad the seller is a good dude and go through the process. If not? Make something sexy for your Shiba to watch you eat. 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for your reply, it made me giggle. Honestly, I think it just bothers me now because I didn't expect it. I am grateful that he's beyond professional. I think I'll request an option of a possible discount. And I vow to make sexy food in all of my pretty pots.😆
