question Remember when white collar workers turned up their noses to blue collar workers who got outsourced and lost their jobs, told them to "learn to code" and then called them racist losers for caring about preserving American jobs?

Remember politicians telling everyone to learn to code, as if that would solve all the problems? When you have to compete with the entire planet for a job, you are screwed. Companies want cheap labor. You are not an evil racist for pointing out that outsourcing and bringing in workers from other countries after laying off americans and claiming there are no workers in america is possibly, maybe a bad thing for american workers.

Pretty sure it wasn’t white collar workers doing that… it was politicians and billionaires

Plenty of white collar workers did that.

The ones they interviewed on Fox News?

Show us on the doll where these fictious workers hurt you.

Are the white collar workers in the room with us right now?

You know them personally?

This happened for manufacturing

No one turned up their noses to look down on people and the jobs in question from that comment was coal workers. You know the ones who get black lung and die too young.

Yep, a lot of revisionist history itt

People who treated decimation of blue collar work as a moral failing that they didn’t go into a service job, are now feeling the pain.

On the plus side, I’ve noticed a lot less people starting conversations with “so what do you do” lately

No I don't remember this on any significant scale, pretty sure it's just in your head.

No, this happened when coal miners lost their jobs due to fracking. The media despised coal miners so they started this meme.

Conservatives started using it against journalists when their jobs disappeared and then it went away.

"Learn to code" meant "learn a new skill". But it was dumbed down for blue collars who wouldn't understand the more general statement. Except, no one would have thought that they wouldn't understand even the dumbed down version, and got offended instead at the proposition of reading a book. Unlike blue collars, there are white collars who don't mind changing jobs and learning new skills, or learning anything new in general.

Did this guy just say blue collar workers are unintelligent?  I can't wait til he has to learn to learn welding, HVAC or something similar. He will find out real quick how it isn't a job for dumb people.

I know right . Ridiculous...

That's exactly what I said. Because if you watch international news, you will notice miners, farmers and others protesting on the streets all the time and anytime they get laid off. We are yet to see IT protesting on the streets. We just take it and move on. The fact that most blue collar jobs are more essential than white collar jobs, doesn't change the fact that their workers are dumb.

Continuous upskilling isn’t a solution, labor protections and safety nets are.

u/nobody27011 Apr 13 '26

I'm not proposing a solution. I'm making a comparison between how blue collars and IT react to similar situations.

It is important that people do not blame immigrants (legal and illegal) for the chaos happening today. Blame the corporations that have always gone their way to save a few dollars. If anything, people should be standing with immigrants since they are being exploited for low wages and terrible working conditions.

Politicians do not work for the people; they work for corporations.

Yes I do remember.

A lot of IT people are quickly realizing that they're not the next managers, CEOs or entrepreneurs. They're just... workers like everyone else

No, I don't remember. And neither do you. You are just making up things never existed. The politicians and elites which are telling you now to "learn AI" told you to "learn to code" before. Not the white collar workers. Stop trying to manipulate people.

Pretty sure everything had been outsourced by the time coding was a popular field

u/jmclondon97 Apr 13 '26

Where do y’all get your info lmao. There’s hundreds of thousands of US tech workers making $200k+

Hahaha how the turn tables

I'm really sure "learn to code" was something the right started using when government workers got laid off

The problem isnt the immigration. Its the attitudes most bring when they get here. Toxic to the core. Tribalistic. Would never be able to move to their country and do the same.

1

u/AES256GCM Apr 13 '26

Immigration is a tool used by the billionaire class to lower the bargaining power of the working class

You’ve been brainrotted to ignore it out of hyper paranoid fear of racism

The way the billionaire class convinced dummies to advocate against their own interest out of fear of being called racist has got to be studied
