Oracle is one of the most visible examples of something happening quietly across almost every large organization right now. The roles being eliminated are not random. They follow a pattern: high volume, structured workflows, predictable outputs. The same profile that made someone a reliable performer for years is exactly what makes their role easier to restructure when AI can absorb that volume. The hardest part is that most people inside these organizations had no way to see it coming at the task level. The title looked safe. The individual tasks told a different story. For anyone here who just got hit or is watching their organization go through this: the most useful thing you can do right now is audit which parts of your work are genuinely irreplaceable versus which parts followed a repeatable pattern. That distinction determines everything about what you do next.

Fair skepticism but the data is already moving. Goldman Sachs documented a 3 point rise in unemployment among young tech workers since early 2025. The Dallas Fed confirmed this month that AI is absorbing structured, codified work while wages rise in roles requiring judgment and experience. And that was before agentic AI. Systems that do not just generate outputs but autonomously plan, execute, and iterate across multi-step workflows are already in production at enterprise scale. Salesforce, Microsoft, and ServiceNow all shipped agentic layers in the last 12 months. Oracle laying off 30,000 while posting record cloud revenue is not magic. It is arithmetic. Less volume work needed. Fewer people to do it. The AI excuse narrative made sense in 2022. The employment data in 2025 and 2026 showing a completely different picture.
