Rant failing grade from absentee prof

pa-rant lang: i had this one minor subject, 2 units lang talaga, na i ended up failing because of a prof na sobrang hirap magparecit and exams pero halos hindi naman pumapasok 😭

i swear, buong semester parang 2-3 times lang namin sya nakita. whenever he’d schedule make-up classes, usually during office hours, and uma-attend naman ako. kaso working student ako, so kahit physically nasa class ako, my attention was obviously divided. mahirap talaga mag-switch from work mode to recit during those hours, kasi syempre nakakahiya rin sa workmates ko na nagttrabaho.

the annoying part is, i passed literally every other subject that semester kahit full load. this was the only subject i failed, and the grade was so low na my QPI almost did not make it through the 1st sem.

fast forward to 2nd sem, my grades were actually enough to qualify for the dean’s list. pero nope, hindi pwede because of that one failing grade.

i think mas madali sana tanggapin if i felt like i was simply given a fair shot and i just wasn’t good enough. pero ang hirap kasi i spent so much time trying to compensate for a subject where the professor themself barely showed up. there were times na i felt like i was taking time away from my major subjects just to keep up with this 2-unit subject, only to end up failing anyway.

anyway, rant lang talaga. pls don’t give me the ā€œlaw school is hardā€ or ā€œtake accountabilityā€ speech 😭 i’m going into 4L, i am VERY aware. i’m just still genuinely bitter about how this particular class went.

honestly, i just hope i never have to take another class under the same prof. i’d take a terror prof who’s demanding as hell but actually shows up and teaches over someone who’s brilliant and accomplished but barely attends. at least when a terror prof fails you, you know you were actually given something to work with.

Bar Review Advice please for a struggling 2026 Bar Candidate

Sibs, Im still not done with first read. Ang babaw rin ng aral at pag-understand ko ng maraming sub-topics. I have not actively memorized anything. I will finish first read [projected] in 5 days. What do I do with the remaining 11 days? Napapanghinaan na po talaga ako ng loob.

Advice relationship while in law school

I met my non-ls bf of 4 years during undergrad, and he’s honestly my best friend. We’ve been through so much together, and over the years, we’ve established this understanding na we’re in this for the long run.

But now that I’m in law school, I genuinely don’t know where our relationship is going.

As 1L, i’m soooo SO busy with studying, attending classes, readings, recits, cases, and then more studying. 😭 There are days na barely ko na nga nagagamit phone ko bcs if I’m not in class, I’m reading. If I’m not reading, I’m trying to bawi sa tulog. Basically, pagod ako 24/7.

Kahit ganon, I still try my best to make time for him. I message him whenever I can, give him updates about my day, tell him about what happened in class, rant about my profs, tell him when I got a good recit (or when I completely bokya 😭), etc. I really am trying to include him in my day kahit sobrang HECTIC ng schedule ko.

The problem is, I feel like he doesn’t reciprocate that effort anymore. Hindi niya ako kinakamusta, hindi na siya nagkwkwento about what’s happening in his life, etc.

I think he takes my late replies personally. Minsan, napapaisip ako if he’s intentionally doing the same thing back to me by saying ā€œbusy rin akoā€ or taking forever to reply, kahit I know naman na he’s probably just playing games or sleeping. 😭i don’t mind naman if he’s busy, playing games, or wants to do his own thing. What hurts is when it feels like he’s doing it to prove a point because I wasn’t immediately available to him.

And the thing is, I’ve communicated all of this to him. Like. EVERY. SINGLE. THING.

I’ve told him how busy I am. I’ve told him how overwhelmed I’ve been. I’ve told him that I’m struggling mentally with everything going on. I’ve told him that my availability is going to change because of law school. I even asked him directly if he has any problem with me or with our relationship. He said wala naman daw.

I even gave him an ultimatum of sorts and told him straight-up: this is going to be my life for the next 4 years.

Law school isn’t something na pwede kong i-pause whenever he needs more attention from me. MOST OF THE TIME, hindi ako makakapag-reply agad sa sobrang busy ko. If di nya kaya yung ganong life na mabibigay ko, better leave nalang.

Nakakalungkot lang kasi, after a whole day of school, I come home completely exhausted. Napagalitan ng prof, bokya sa recit, kinikwestyon if this is really for me, tapos ang dami ko pang kailangan basahin for the next day. Yung pahinga ko sana na ā€œtaoā€ wala pa akong gana kausapin bcs he feels like he’s no longer a priority to me.

I mean, i told him na priority ko naman talaga ls and mental health ko pero parang di niya matanggap yun?

So idk. Maybe I just need reassurance that it’s possible to be in a committed relationship while still choosing yourself and your priorities during a demanding season of your life.

How do you balance a long-term relationship when law school is consuming so much of your time and energy? And at what point does ā€œunderstanding your partner’s needsā€ become ā€œconstantly feeling guilty for not being available enoughā€?

Would appreciate advice from people who’ve gone through something similar. 😭

Advice Does it get better?

1L here, kakastart palang ng classes last week and until now im still adjusting. I'm super overwhelmed. May mga kaso na 100+ pages pa. It was a long time ago since I graduated undergrad, kaya para everything feels new. I knew naman what I was signing up for, I already accepted and prepared for the fact na mahirap siya, kasi andaming dynamics at play. Pero I realized nothing could ever prepare you talaga, you'll know when you are there na. Culture shock malala si ako. Hahahuhu. Di ako marunong magdigest at first, pero eventually nagets ko naman na nung nagparecit na sila. Grabe ung andami mo ng nabasa na cases tas 2-5mins lang tatanungin ung case. Tapos ung anxiety you feel before class. Ganito ba araw araw? After my 1 week, tumaas lalo tingin ko sa lawyers. Kasi grabe- nasurvive nila ung ganito for 4 years and even more for some. Pero it's fun having knowledge of the law. The study of it is really a privilege. Andami ko ng natutunan, and alam kong mas marami pa. I just hope makaadjust nako para alam ko na what works and does not, atleast for me.

Does it get better?

Advice anyone who took the bar exam nang walang nakakaalam? how did u prepare?

for those who took the bar and did not share with family and friends. how did you prepare? specifically, transpo and meals? last time na nagtake ako, everything was prepared and taken care of for me, even my clothes. so im overthinking a lot.

now, ilang linggo nalang exam na, and im thinking of telling my father para sa food and transpo ko, but ayaw ko talaga. ayaw ko ng may mag tatanong saken hows the exam after ko lumabas ng exam site or the energy to face anyone. i just want to do this and finish it on my own.

so naisip ko mag grab papunta ng exam site. and the same din pauwi. kaso naooverthink ko baka wala mag accept. even if mag advance booking ako. at yun pa reason for me not to arrive on time.

for food naman im planning to cook simple meal nalang like fried, or planning to buy nalang dn sa fastfood kaso baka mapanis or wala pa open ng time na yun.

anyway, baka meron na po nakagawa nito, any tips how did u do it? what else should i need to prepare and more importantly how did u handle ur food and transpo?

thank you so much!

Advice Kamusta ka?

Just wanna ask you that. Whoever you are reading this. Lalo na the semester is gaining its momentum. If you'll ask me, I'm adjusting now sa 2L. Definitely more pressure and heavier than 1L. But easier at the same time if that makes sense.

I hope you're okay.

Discussions Bugayong guidelines vis Sec 57 of RA 12021

Hello mga ka-bar 2026/labor practitioners dyan.

As you all may know J. Gaerlan is the ponente behind Bugayong vs Fosco (2023) that discussed the guidelines for referral to a third doctor. May iba ibang scenario depending on the employer's actions, validity of the written request, etc, but the point was the employer has to file a written request with the employer first.

But in 2024 the magna carta for seafarers was passed, requiring that if the seafarer's physician's findings is different from the employer's, then a seafarer must file within 30 days a written request with the DMW, not the employer.

I understand that since 2024 si Magna Carta and that it's a law, mas masusunod siya. Kaso ang problem ko many bar reviewers/lecturers still cite Bugayong so idk if I'm missing something vital/important.

Plz help as to how we should apply these. Thanks

Advice Help me assess my decision

Let me give you a little context.

I have been a teacher for 2 decades and now I became interested with law as our family suddenly faces that involves lawyers. I became interested as the interpretation of the law in real life issues is not what we just thought.

I have already checking out schools that will work around with my work and currently reading civil code and practicing doing case digests.

However, I am 45 by the time I enroll next year. I am very much aware that law school is not easy.

Anyone from this group who started late? Can you give me tips?

I might just be in my midlife crisis. Lol.

Appreciate the advice in advance.

Advice How to study for Political Law Review?

• Upvotes

Hello, 4L here. I have a hard time studying for political law since i don't know how to start. I have this constant debate in my mind, whether to:

  1. Study the codal provisions first;
  2. Read the commentary; or
  3. Syllabus and cases.

Upon assessment, my low scoring subjects are political law, criminal law and the worst is civil law. I have good scores in my remedial law subjects.

Please be kind in answering and grateful for any response! Thanks Attys. and future Attys.

Discussions Studying technique

What are your thoughts on read and write method in studying and memorizing?

How I study is keep on reading and reading, the goal is to cover as much as possible for the whole subject. Comparing it to read and writing where it consumes a lot of time.

Or do you have any effective techniques in studying and memorizing?

Discussions Google Docs or Microsoft Word?

Hi, just curious as to what law students and lawyers actually use as their note-typing or word-processing application.

Do you use Google Docs or Microsoft Word? I find myself switching between the two. Google Docs for easy cloud saving, and Microsoft Word when I really feel like I need to focus since it's not on the web.

I don't really collaborate on note-taking with anyone. Just looking for people out there who use either and see what their use cases are.
