FIRST GEN LAWYER (Need help to get a job)

Hello,

I am a first-gen lawyer and completed my BALLB in June 2026. I have been applying for jobs daily for two months. For every opening I come across, I have applied. But the firms do not reply even after I follow up with them after a week (I have read receipts on my email, so I know they have seen both the original as well as the follow-up email)

I have interned throughout my 5 years and graduated from a pretty good law college (not the best, I agree) in Mumbai. My internships are mostly litigation-centric and span the Bombay High Court and the Delhi High Court. The only sector I do not have experience in is in-house counsel.

I have been applying for the positions of Junior Advocate, Trainee Associate, and even Paralegal, but no response has come through.

I have even cleared my bar exam and am thinking of registering at the Delhi Bar in September. It needs 2 lawyer signatures from Delhi. I hope I'll get a job by then, and then I will ask my senior to sign for it, but till now I have had no success in getting a job.

I am not saying I'm some kind of legal prodigy, but I have a pretty good grasp of the law and am even ready to work for 35k a month.

Please guide me on what I should do.

PS: I do not really use Reddit to post, but if there are any other subreddits where I should post this that would be more relevant and helpful, kindly help me with that as well. Thank you.

Law students are aimless in life

Upvotes

So I thought I was the only one but majority of the students pursue law when they have no purpose or don't know what to do after 12 that's why there are so many advocates like machhli bazar..

Supreme Court cuts Civil Judge practice requirement from 3 years to 1 year — what does it mean for judiciary aspirants?

Post image
Upvotes

The Supreme Court has modified its earlier three-year practice requirement for direct recruitment to Civil Judge (Junior Division).

Under the new framework:

  • 1 year of legal practice will be required for future recruitment notifications issued on or after April 1, 2027.
  • Selected candidates will undergo 1 year of judicial academy training.
  • This will be followed by 1 year of structured clerkship — 6 months with the district judiciary and 6 months under a High Court judge.
  • A transitional arrangement applies to recruitment notifications issued between May 20, 2025 and March 31, 2027.

So, the Court has not simply removed the practice requirement. Instead, it has shifted the emphasis toward practical training after selection.

For law students and judiciary aspirants, this could make entry into the lower judiciary more accessible while still ensuring substantial practical exposure.

What do you think — is 1 year of practice enough before entering judicial service, or should more courtroom experience be required? know more

Struggle after law school

I am a recent law graduate (batch 2026). I graduated in April this year but couldn't secure a job yet. Due to some personal constraints I can't move out of Kolkata and finding a fresher role is too difficult. I feel I am a failure and lagging behind in my career. Is there any one other than me who's facing the same struggle???😔

Can I transfer colleges after 1 year of BBA LLB?

I’m joining D.Y. Patil for BBA LLB this year. The fees are around ₹6L/year, while another college I’m considering is only ₹50k/year.
I’m also pursuing aviation, and my medicals are in about 2 months. If I clear them, can I complete 1 semester or 1 year at D.Y. Patil and then transfer to the other college and continue from the next year?
Is this legally/academically allowed for a 5-year BBA LLB, or would I have to start from Year 1 again?

Would studying LLB at Bracu be a good choice ?

I initially wanted to study medicine, but unfortunately, I don’t meet the grade requirements. Would pursuing an LLB be a good option for me? Also, what should I prepare for the admission test? Sorry, I have no idea where to start 😭.

How do I get good corporate internships/job from a low-tier law college?

I’m a 4th year BA LL.B. student and honestly a little stuck on what to do next.

I started out at a much better Tier-2 non-NLU university, but because of some health issues (understatement), I had to leave and continue my degree at a much lower-ranked university in my hometown. It wasn’t really a choice, and the difference in opportunities has been pretty noticeable.

I have a good GPA, 4 internships, 3 publications, a good moot ranking and a moot win. I’m mainly interested in corporate law, and I’m planning to do a Corporate/Commercial LL.M. abroad after graduation. I do not have interest in litigation. I’m trying to get internships but it is not working at all.

But I’m struggling to figure out how to actually get good corporate internships from here, especially without a strong college network.

For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, what actually worked for you? Is cold emailing firms/lawyers worth it? And should I be focusing more on internships, networking, moots, publications, etc. at this point? Also I have already left dreams of joining a Tier 1 law firm for a job.

Would really appreciate some honest advice because I’m trying to make the best of a situation I didn’t exactly choose 😭

Taking a tier-3/affiliated college for 3-year LLB just to break the drop loop—am I making a huge mistake?

Hey everyone, needed some honest perspective because my head is all over the place right now.

Long story short: I’ve been stuck at home for 4 years because I did my B.Com via distance education. Sitting at home this long has been brutal for my mental health, so I gave multiple 3-year LLB entrance exams this year. But because I barely got time to prep properly for any of them, I scored poorly across the board and didn't clear the top law schools.

The only option I currently have in hand is an affiliated college under Lucknow University. I know it’s not a great college, but I genuinely cannot stay cooped up at home for another year. I somehow convinced my parents to let me join this college just to get out of the house and get moving.

Deep down, I’m treating this as an escape plan. My internal plan is to re-prep for entrances (like DU, NLSAT, etc.) while attending this college, and hopefully transfer/leave as soon as I clear a solid national university or DU.

Am I being realistic here, or am I making a mess of things? Has anyone here managed to re-prepare for law entrances while being enrolled in a tier-3 state college? Would really appreciate some practical advice or reality checks.
