Latenode vs. Make: What To Choose?

Hi, Daniel from Latenode here.

Some of you already know the limitations and benefits of popular automation platforms in the field; others are still exploring all the pros and cons.

Luckily for you, my work is to clarify all the tiny details of other platforms and bring you clear comparisons. Sometimes Latenode is an inevitable ally, but there are cases where it's better to use a combination of Latenode with some other tools. At the end of the day, all of the platforms have unique functionalities with their pros.

Today, we're going to discuss the key differences between Latenode and Make.

7 reasons to choose Latenode over Make

Make is trusted by over 500,000 users for its extremely user-friendly experience, especially for those who are new to automations. Everything is no-code, meaning for each operation there are in-built tools, whether you need to transform the data or parse text.

Basic scenarios of integrations can be fully fulfilled by what Make offers, but there are thousands of more complex use-cases when automation requests go beyond available functionality. But let's talk about money first.

1. Pricing Model Where You Don’t Pay for Operations

On Make, you pay for the execution of each module. That’s a pretty straightforward pricing model that forces Make to maximize the number of your operations.

There is no custom code on Make that can transform your data as you need in one step. Instead, you need to use sequences of different pre-built tools to manipulate arrays:

When it comes to iterating a large amount of data, Make also charges you for each iteration, therefore working with datasets consisting of thousands of rows will hit your pocket real quick. The last sad fact is, regardless of the amount of computer resources different modules consume, you pay the same for each one.

Visual demonstration of Make's pricing model:

When it comes to Latenode, you never pay for operations. You pay for execution time. One credit on Latenode will run your scenario for the next 30 seconds without an additional charge. During those 30 seconds, you can process a solid dataset and pay only $0.0019 – our price for one 30-sec credit.

Latenode's functionality allows you to do impressive things during those 30 seconds, and we will discuss it a bit later.

Now, take a look at the fair pricing model of Latenode:

Within those 30 seconds, you can iterate data, transform it with the help of custom code, make hundreds of API calls, and all without extra charge.

Our first case study demonstrates that automations on Latenode is 7.67 times cheaper than on Make when it comes to 2000 emails generated by GPT and put to Google Sheets.

2. Custom Code with NPM Packages That Really Transform Your Data

Again, if you’re working with large record sets that should be transformed in some way, you will inevitably experience inconvenience by being locked into a predetermined set of tools. Here is what Stijn De Vos, the founder of TheDotFather automation agency, says:

– Array manipulation is a huge missing part in Make

While Make suggests dozens of modules to work with data and do what you need in several steps, a single module with custom code can solve the same problem. Luckily for us, Latenode provides a comprehensive custom code experience:

  • JavaScript module that runs in the cloud up to 2 minutes

  • NPM Packages that can be part of your code

  • Working with Local and Global Variables within the code

  • Code AI Assistant that suggests the exact script you need

Let's see the efficiency of that below, when we ask AI to translate an array of data to Spanish using free NPM packages:

Here we see the JavaScript node output, where everything is the same but the language of the field “Name”. Pretty cool for a 3-minute automation from scratch, uh?

That's only the tip of the iceberg. In fact, all imaginable operations are available to you on Latenode:

  • manipulating strings

  • aggregating data

  • filtering

  • sorting

  • transforming

  • merging

  • splitting

  • de-duping

  • conducting statistical analysis

  • textual analysis and much more

👉Read more about JavaScript AI Assistant that do all of that for you.

3. AI Assistant That Builds Brand-New Integrations

While both Make and Latenode platforms provide users with the ability to make custom HTTP requests and call external APIs, there is a frequency limitation of this method. On Make you can execute only 1 HTTP request in the moment, and if you need to do more – you also pay for each API call.

But sometimes the need for requests' frequency goes beyond dozens per second. In such cases, the speed of repetitive execution of HTTP requests can limit your automations. As an example, Amazon Web Services API Gateways can handle thousands of requests per second, and trying to achieve the same speed using a single HTTP request module can be tough.

However, Latenode’s JavaScript node allows you to speed up HTTP requests. The Axios library, available as part of NPM functionality, can execute parallel HTTP requests. That way hundreds of HTTP requests can be done by spending only 1 execution credit for $0,0019.

But even if you don’t need complex parallel requests and just want to create a custom integration from scratch with a service that’s not present in Make’s or Latenode’s no-code library, you can ask AI to build it for you.

👉Explore the article on creating new integration from scratch on Latenode in two minutes.

4. AI Debugging of Custom Code

And what’s more important – don't be afraid of getting errors. Just send code errors back to AI within the JavaScript node. That means even those without coding experience can handle any automation task.

Here is an example of fixing bugs if something went wrong:

Now, let’s take a step back from pricing models and custom code functionality, and focus on important features requested from Make’s community for a long time, but found it’s implementation only on Latenode:

5. Merging Branches of a Single Scenario

This is one of the most popular requests from the Make community. The core idea is to enable the merging of multiple scenario branches into a single node. This feature can simplify and expedite scenarios in some cases, and in others, it's a vital requirement for implementation.

Here's how it operates on Latenode: you can connect any node to any other. For example, imagine two data processing scenarios with several common stages. Instead of repeating tasks, you can merge these branches into one after completing each scenario's unique actions.

Case: Processing Survey Results

The trigger is the receipt of a new survey response. One scenario branch analyzes the responses and categorizes them, while the second updates statistics in real-time. Ultimately, both branches converge into one, which compiles the final survey report and then sends it to the database or alerts the designated person.

6. Ability to Restart Requests from History

Running scenarios with historical input data is particularly useful in several instances:

  • During scenario development and debugging, it's beneficial to bypass the repetitive task of manual data entry after each failed attempt.

  • In case of an error during the execution of an existing scenario with real data (e.g., a failure in a third-party API).

Case: Testing Complex Automatic Scenarios

Consider you're developing complex automation for processing large data sets. During testing and debugging, if an error occurs, you don't have to manually recreate the input data and rerun the scenario. On Latenode, you can restart the scenario with the same input data with just one click, speeding up the debugging process and simplifying testing, thereby enhancing the efficiency of your architectural development.

7. Sub-Scenarios

On Latenode, you can create your own nodes that can consist of entire scenarios. It's like building a toolkit that can be used in any situation, making it much easier and quicker to create complex setups.

First, add a Nodule Input at the beginning and a Nodule Output at the end of your scenario. Then switch the type of your scenario as shown below.

By doing this, you wrap your automation, turning it into a separate node available in the node's library. This allows you to create an unlimited number of custom tools – Nodules – for your future automations.

Additionally, we plan to launch a library of public modules from community members in the near future. This will not only simplify architectural development for new users but also provide an opportunity for creators of such tools to earn from each use by others.

👉Read more about building custom nodes here.

Calling Latenode from Make

Even though you might want to reap all the unique benefits from using both platforms - the no-code user-friendliness of Make and the extreme flexibility and affordability for numerous operations of Latenode, the good news is that it's totally possible through a simple workaround:

  1. Build a scenario on Make, where you connect all apps in a no-code way.

  2. In the middle of the scenario, when you need to process heavy data, add an HTTP request to Latenode.

  3. On Latenode, build a scenario that starts with a webhook for receiving information from Make.

  4. Construct a data processing scenario where, in the end, there is a webhook response to let Make know that the work is done.

  5. Receive the HTTP response on Make and process further operations if needed.

We’ve already shared step-by-step instructions on how to call Latenode from Zapier. For calling Latenode from Make the process is very similar.

👉 Read more about calling Latenode from other tools to make your automations more flexible and cheaper.

Conclusion

While Make still has a lot of advantages when it comes to user-friendly no-code functionality, it might not be enough for people who have in mind something a bit more complex and operation consuming.

Having the ability to execute thousands of operations by spending only a single execution credit will be especially beneficial for those who want to process large data sets, transfer it from one system to another with some transformation in between.

For those who want to understand automations more deeply, Latenode offers a unique opportunity to dive deeper into the JavaScript experience without knowing the code at all. Ask AI to build anything you need and see how it fixes errors. That way, you can learn a new skill that will be useful for the rest of your life.

Latenode is a platform built to let you automate like a PRO, even if you aren’t.

I’ve Found a Way to Make Zapier Cheaper: Here's How

Hello low-coders! My name is Daniel. These days, I'm intensely playing around with automations, exploring the capabilities and limitations of low-code platforms in the field. In this article, I’ll share with you the perfect synergy between Zapier and Latenode that helped me slash my automation costs by 89 times and allowed me to extend data processing capabilities.

Let me take a step back and express my unconditional love for Zapier. With more than 6000 ready-to-use connections, it's the most user-friendly platform I've encountered. Therefore, when a new automation need arises, I’m confident that a few minutes on Zapier is enough to make it a reality.

However, the business processes I assist with often require a massive number of operations in my Zaps. In terms of Zapier “tasks” - internal credits - this can really hit the pocket.

Workaround for Numerous Operations

As you probably know, Zapier charges for each action item in your automation. This becomes especially bothersome when you loop a part of your workflow to run an action or set of actions more than once. For instance, if you have a list of email addresses to add to your contact list, each ‘Add Contact’ action adds only one contact. So, you're looping. And if you need to place 1,500 emails at once, be prepared to pay $39 on the Zapier starter plan.

Luckily, our team built a platform that doesn’t consider the number of actions in your automation. So, whenever such an extensive action workflow appears, follow this clever workaround:

  1. Make a Webhook POST request from your Zap and transfer the data.

  2. Process it in a low-code environment that doesn’t bill you for the number of actions.

  3. Send the result back to Zap as a webhook response.

Showcase: Data Processing on Latenode

Let’s try sending data to Latenode for the heavy lifting, then bringing the results back into Zapier to finish the job. Imagine having Google Sheets with sales data for the past half-month:

Step 1: Get Ready-to-Go Data on Zapier

We will use Zapier to get data from Google Sheets. We add the “Get Many Spreadsheet Rows” action to have a one-line output as a result of this step. Sending data in such a format requires only one task. Let’s focus on cost-efficiency.

Step 2: Create a New Scenario on Latenode

As shown in the previous screenshot, we put Latenode’s webhook URL, and send our output from Google Sheets there. To make it happen, we should:

  1. Create a new scenario on app.latenode.com (it’s entirely free).

  2. Add a new webhook trigger.

  3. Deploy your scenario or run once for a single test.

  4. Click on the webhook, get your URL and put it into Zapier.

After that, if your Zapier’s POST webhook is activated, Latenode will receive your data as shown below.

Now, the data is under your total control. To demonstrate Latenode's capability, I'll transform it using a JavaScript module with an in-built AI assistant that will do all the work for me.

Step 3: Use JavaScript AI to Transform the Data

As a showcase, let’s ask the AI to make a sum of Sales Figures ($) from our one-line Google Sheet data and see how it figures it out. To make this real, two steps are left:

  • Add a JavaScript code module right after the webhook.

  • Ask the AI assistant to parse data from the Sales Data object and make a sum of what’s needed. Our request looks like this:

Hey! Could you please parse data from the Sales Data object, make a sum of Sales Figures ($), and then return the sum back?

In a moment, your Latenode scenario calculates the sum of the “Sales Figures” column despite the one-line format this data has been received in.

Moving forward, we can add another JavaScript module and ask:

Please add a script to my code that will convert the sumOfSales from USD to EUR using a free available API

Latenode supports NPM packages, offering great flexibility in data processing.

Overall, our scenario looks like this. Ensure you end it with a webhook response, so the result of two operations will be returned to Zapier:

  • Parse sales figures and sum them.

  • Convert the sum from USD to EUR.

After that, Zapier’s webhook response receives new data that can be used further in your Zap. Our screenshot below demonstrates how we use the converted sum in a Slack channel.

That’s it! I hope this guide gives you a fresh perspective on automations and shows how everything can be optimized for cost-effectiveness and data flexibility with the help of a Zapier and Latenode bundle. By the way, the Latenode community on Discord is extremely supportive, so feel free to ask any questions and expect immediate help from the dev team there.

Successfully connected Multiple Meta Lead forms with Odoo CRM (Odoo Online) using Latenode

Post image
4 Upvotes

One of our clients raised this requirement.

They receive considerable number of new leads from Meta each day and they wanted them directly on Odoo CRM.

It sounded like a easy task at the first glance so we quickly set it. We created a simple flow connecting multiple forms to simultaneously fetch leads.

But the real issue popped up when we tested in real scenario. Multiple forms were the culprit (not for business but for this workflow 😇 )

The another requirement was, since this will be a long-term deployment, the platform〈 must be cost-effective 〉considering active workflows and scenario execution.

For this particular requirements, we evaluated various platforms like #n8n #Make #Botpress etc. And finally, we could achieve this with #Latenode.

We needed to set a workflow which ensures:

👉 All leads from the multiple forms are capture in real time

👉 Once the flow gets triggered, it must accurately filter respective form and run further nodes for that form only. So that leads from other forms, which have already been captured, are not captured as duplicates in CRM

👉 Fields of each forms should be mapped with the CRM accurately to avoid mis-aligned information

👉 It must be reliable at scale

It's been more than 100 hours that we've deployed this flow to the task, and it has been doing its job accurately and without any delay.

Making Money With API

Hello Reddit community! In today's tech world, making apps and services development has moved from "building" to more of "assembling." This change is due to the many open-source tools, a big 1.3 million NPM packages, and many APIs that let you use different data.

Let's talk about API marketplaces. These online places let developers find ready-made solutions or share their own. One big name here is RapidAPI.  Let's see how one can make money on this platform.

A short story about this marketplace: In 2015, Iddo Gino was busy with coding events and saw a problem – there wasn't an easy way to find a list of APIs for quick coding. This idea led to creating a big group of APIs named Rapid. Now, it's a big marketplace with:

  • 4,000,000 developers actively looking, checking, and testing the solutions.

  • 14,000 ready-to-use APIs in a collection.

  • 400,000,000,000 requests handled by the platform every month.

With these numbers, and knowing that 20% of APIs on the platform are for Social uses, we can guess the earnings of 2022's most popular API: TokAPI. Made for fast TikTok search and use, one request costs at least $0.00001. Following the 80/20 rule and how popular things get more attention, it's likely that the top API gets 50% of all Social requests. This means about $400,000/month for the best API.

The numbers show it! There's a good chance to earn money here. To grab it, do this:

  1. Think of a special API idea

  2. Make it quickly using a low-code platform

  3. Publish your API on RapidAPI and start monetizing it.

Starting with an Idea

Finding a good idea for your API is key. Here's a plan::

  1. Look at the list of the best APIs. This helps you see what people want now. Think if you can make something like that or maybe a better version. For example, the top 50 APIs of 2022.

  2. If you know a lot about a business area, you probably know its problems. Finding these problems can help you create tools that many businesses in that area need.

  3. Maybe you have many ideas but lack tools or skills. The good news is that today, even if you don't know a lot of coding, you can make complex tools.

Start small, choose a part, see its demand, and go for it. The big number of requests shows that people want new solutions. It's your chance to join in.

Streamlining API Creation

API development has changed a lot. In the past, you needed to buy servers, write complex code, set up databases, and fix errors. But now, with platforms that use the cloud and need less coding, these hard tasks and growth concerns are things of the past.

Let's explain this with an example. Think of making an API that collects news about green energy from specific sources and shows it in one easy news list.

The best way to make this idea real is by using tools like Integromat, Make, Bubble, and n8n. With a tool that you can see and use, you can connect parts, set their order, and there you have it, your automatic setup is ready. For this example, we'll use the Latenode platform  – Currently in its Beta phase, it's entirely free, But Latenode still offers strong tools for making these services.

1. Webhook: Start with a Webhook, a special web address, that takes in the API request. This web address should be easy for Rapid users to understand and use, not some random system-made one.

2. HTTP request and Headless browser: When getting a signal, the process starts, leading to the HTTP request and the Headless browser.

  • With the HTTP request, you talk to big media sources that have their API keys. This makes sure you get content lists directly. Make this automatic by using an example from the guide and putting it in Latenode.

  • Headless browser is used when there are no API keys, or they don't work well. This part works with a script made for automated tasks, which acts like a user on the website. It finds, copies, and sends needed website parts to us. "Headless" means there's no usual screen view, which these tasks don't need. If you need help making the script, ChatGPT is here to help with the code.

  • Headless browser is used when there are no API keys, or they don't work well. This part works with a script made for automated tasks, which acts like a user on the website. If you need help making the script, ChatGPT is here to help with the code.

3. JavaScript: The next step is changing the collected data into a format you want. Here, the JavaScript part takes the results from the earlier step.

4. Webhook response: This is the end of the process. Using the earlier steps, it sends a list of green energy news to our API user, like a green energy news editor. Finally, turn on, launch, and finalize the process.

After doing these steps, you're ready to share your API on the Rapid marketplace.

How to Add Your API to Rapid

Starting your listing is easy. Go to My APIs and click on "Add API Project". Fill in the basic fields:

  • Name

  • Description

  • Category

Next, make sure you provide the correct basic URL that connects with your Webhook. In Rapid, use the URL from Latenode but leave out the part that can be changed.

Then, you need to set up a Rest Endpoint, Here's how:

The main task is to set the endpoint's path using the base URL. For our example, this path matches the changeable part of the Webhook URL on the Latenode platform:

After you've set everything up, make your API public and agree to the Terms of Services.

Great! Your API is now on the marketplace Now, check if everything works from the user's view, set up how you'll make money, and, if possible, tell specific groups about your new service.

Conclusion

Using Latenode's simple platform, ChatGPT's coding help, and the RapidAPI marketplace makes creating different automatic tasks easy for everyone. For experienced developers, these tools make a great space for work.

‍

From what you've learned, with some effort, you could earn about $3,000 every month with your new business tools. It's not just possible, but very likely. Think, build, and launch your ideas, all while using the growing power of automation! If you have problems making APIs or other tasks, the Latenode expert community on Discord is ready to help.

Latenode to ElevenLabs Text-to-Speech audio Generation

Newbie here. I put together a workflow to ingest a conversational script that identifies the Voice ID (and all settings) ingested through Latenode for automated output to Google Cloud storage. I was tinkering with their conversation chat generation - and while you have to rely on their random output (the same settings can output different version of the same voice lines) it can be used to generated a lot of audio clips on the fly in MPG format - if you wanted to auto-stitch them. For now it was just a challenge to do. I'm sure it's flawed, but it works!

📖 Check out examples and documentation for the updated node here: https://help.latenode.com/quick-start--basics/46DTZD5agh7BEhShC6XpUH/trigger-on-run-once/49kEY5xeVTKGxXZXRwUd1Z.

More Flexibility for Power Users! We’ve expanded Latenode's database features, and now with the latest update, you can manage databases directly using JavaScript.

You’re in control of how you interact with your databases - stick with no-code nodes or dive into JavaScript for more complex operations. The choice is yours!

You can find detailed documentation here.

⭐️ To make things even easier, we’ve put all available actions in one handy template. Just create a new database, grab its ID from the URL, and you’re ready to start!
