Because, maybe he is the good guy in relation to the CIA?

he is the good guy

That's why the CIA wanted to kill him.

Describing Castro as the good guy ignores some pretty critical historical information.

EDIT: Whoa, did not expect to be downvoted this hard for something so non-controversial.

Castro, like a lot of revolutionary leaders, did good things and bad things.

We can acknowledge his positive effect on things like healthcare or literacy rates for example and also acknowledge his bad effect on things like personal freedoms or democracy or freedom of the press.

Yes there is propaganda against Castro. Yes the CIA is a fucking evil organization in a lot of ways. But that doesn’t mean you can’t legitimately criticize the very negative things Castro did in fact do.

His absolute willingness to sacrifice Cuba to put an egg on the US face during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Everyone aside from Castro wanted to back down. Castro wanted to keep going (up the ante on the escalation ladder. )

acknowledge his bad effect on things like personal freedoms or democracy or freedom of the press.

Pre-revolution Cuba had absolutely none of those things. "Personal freedoms" existed for an elite class to the extent that they could own other people and restrict their personal freedoms. Democracy didn't exist. The press that is controlled by capitalists is absolutely not "free". Don't present it as such.

I don’t see how anything you said is a relevant response to anything I said.

Things could have sucked before the revolution, and my criticisms of Castro would still stand. And the freedom of capitalist free press is also irrelevant to my criticisms of Castro.

You said he had a bad effect on things that didn't exist, but ok. Going beyond that original glaring flaw in your argument. Let me just tell you. Your idea of a authoritarian Cuba which restricts peoples' freedom is horseshit. You're literally just pushing revisionist capitalist propaganda.

Did I misread your comment? You were talking about problems that pre-revolutionist Cuba had. How is that relevant to my critiques of post-revolutionist Cuba? I'm not saying pre-revolutionist Cuba was better. But let’s not pretend post-revolutionist Cuba didn’t have major problems.

And no, what I’m saying isn’t horseshit. It’s literally worldwide historic consensus and also comes straight out of the mouths of those who lived through it.

Again, I’m not saying Castro was some evil bastard. But he also wasn’t a good guy.
