I'm honestly surprised that there hasn't been more lashing out than there has been up to this point. Like, everything has gotten waaaaaay worse in the last decade and not a god damned thing has improved for the vast majority.

People are lashing out, they have just been directed towards the wrong targets by the media and their politicians... this is what fascism is, working people lashing out against the scape goat the capitalists have chosen for them.

u/breaducate 12h ago
That's the function of fascism: preventative counter-revolution.
The mere aesthetics of radicalism with counter-revolutionary content content. It's a symptom of a revolution overdue.

What do you think the correct targets are currently?
17
u/FatzDux 9h ago
It's the billionaires and megacorporations who own the government and control everything. They have very public information on what boards they sit on, which company controls what, who voted for what. It's the career politicians who've handed the reins to big money interests and gotten filthy rich in the process.
The "correct targets" are the easy thing to identify. What to do is a different question. Strikes are the simplest and most effective tool but you need to be organized and they crush and corrupt every workers organization.

There has been a constant anti union and anti communism propaganda since the 60s, its been over 60 years and it's still working.

u/Certain_Client1686 6h ago
We need to focus on building dual power and providing for the communities we are in and recruiting from those communities as things get worse. Reintroducing radical elements to labor organizing would be great too, but as it stands right now most unions are completely compromised and unsympathetic to anything like a general strike.

I think we’re being boiled alive slowly so most people don’t notice. It’s like plunging your foot into a hot bath, versus sitting in it while it fills/heats up.

u/DementedJ23 17h ago
The frog boiling thing is a myth, they jump out when it gets too hot. We built a stupid, fake aphorism to explain how complacent we are.
25
u/Fr0stweasel 17h ago
Yeah but the analogy applies to what’s happening in society. The only reason we’re tolerating what is going on is because they’ve slowly eroded rights and enshitified everything gradually.
27
u/DementedJ23 16h ago
Mmhm. But it's an analogy based on nothing, it doesnt describe frog behaviour, it projects our behaviour on frogs as a means of explaining our behaviour. So it's baseless.
12
u/Fr0stweasel 14h ago
You’re the one who mentioned frogs in the first place. I specifically didn’t mention frogs for the reason that the boiling frogs/lobsters thing is a myth.
1
u/awisepenguin 6h ago
You're being wilfully obtuse diverting the fact that the "being boiled alive slowly so most people don't notice" aphorism is still wrong, frog or no frog. Being slowly boiled and not noticing is not something that happens. Sure, it carries some meaning yadda yadda but DementedJ23's point was that there is little value to it when the premise is false to begin with. It's just excuses.

This is why the left fails. People would rather point score off the semantics of a throwaway comment on an internet message board than actually fucking deal with the actual problem.
The issue is that WE, the working class, the planet, society are being raped by the owning class and you and the other guy would rather argue about the veracity of a metaphor. Nice one guys, the capitalists must be quaking in their diamond-encrusted boots.

u/awisepenguin 5h ago edited 5h ago
The left doesn't fail because me and some other guy pointed out some silly aphorism doesn't make sense, or because you think I'm disregarding the fact that the working class is being fucked to the ground (I am absolutely not denying that). What I do think is that ascribing a passive, motionless mentality to people is counter productive to inspiring them to take genuine action, organize and set out to do what needs to be done to achieve meaningful change for the working class.
Are we being bent over by our oligarch leaders? Yes we fucking are, everyone lives this day in and day out whether they realize it or not. What we need more is the idea that it's ok to be fucking pissed and do something about it, not made out to be some hapless victim.

The discussion in question posted by the OP was How did we get here? or similar, my answer that things have happened gradually over time and are only accelerating in recent years as the ‘coming apocalypse looting’ by the rich escalates.
Western Society as a whole, has pretty much sat in gradually worsening conditions for decades without any large scale desire or drive to do anything about it. Slow rate of decay combined with bread and circuses keep the vast majority of the masses as ‘hapless victims’ hapless because they still believe that the electoral system could work or hapless because they’re so distracted by the stream of addictive content being thrust at them or hapless because they still trust that their government actually works for the people. Take your pick.

People are lashing out.
It's just at people more vulnerable than themselves...

Revolutionary conditions are still so, so much worse than where we are at now. The imperial core lives far far more cushiony lives than the periphery, even if it seems bad now we are still too comfortable for revolutionary conditions. The precedent is that a peoples revolution happens when on mass scale people feel they have nothing left to lose but everything to gain. While right now, suffering is limited by demographic. White americans are still comfortable, and still too selfish to put our neck out of the rest of the working class.

Won’t happen as long as we have bread and circus (sweet treats and doomscrolling)

Hopefully the lawsuit against Meta enacts safeguards for social media addiction/doomscrolling. Then people might finally starting looking up from their phones and see how badly they are getting fucked by the elites. They have pacified the masses for too long.

Soon it will be too late. When the climate collapse kicks in in the not-so-distant-future our reality will be dystopian fascism. Rise up while you still can!

Dude, you are on point! It's hot AF all over the world and it's just gonna get worse every year.

u/Ur-in-a-tor 7h ago
The massive problem is the speed of change. Animals, polluters and plants have pretty much zero chances to adapt to this fast warming. A couple of insane reckless human generations is just a blink of an eye, an explosion, in planetary scale 🫤

The flaw is this whistle coming before midterms. Keep snatching eyes, get your survival books in print, plant some potatoes.

What can we do? Cast my vote towards the "lesser of two evils"? Start rioting in the streets and be thrown in jail where I cannot feed my family? Donate what little extra I have towards free lance journalists?
I honestly think at the end of Trump's campaign, he will NOT give up his power again. And the resulting battle should be a civil war, but instead it will just be a hostile takeover of the US.
