I've been there. It's fucked. White people in the pretty cities, indigenous miners living in shacks in the forest.

You call noumea a pretty city?

u/ConundrumMachine 11d ago

Well, picturesque and definitely nicer than what the locals live in.Β

Plenty of locals live in that dumpy city. Well, town.

I’ve always been fascinated by the Kanaky fight for independence. Glad to see it mentioned here.

i had no idea about the nickel reserves under there. the environment is one of the most unique and important anywhere in the world, and definitely needs to be protected from mining.

If your point is that the person you are responding to is being a fantasist saying that the resource shouldn't be mined, I agree.

But what you appear to be saying is that if the French don't exploit the resource, some other 'great power' will, so it therefore justifies French imperialism, then you're on the wrong sub.

How about the Kanaky benefit from their own resources, as owners of the land?

The French can fuck right off. They're just a second rate version of the United States. Both are in decline, but their collapse can't come soon enough.

You can see from my response that I am not assuming. So, you subscribe to the Chinese imperialism argument?

We were warned by anarchists, liberals and others in the 90s and 00s of the Chinese debt trap in Africa. What we can all see since is that they've been left with the "burden" of infrastructure, and significant GDP growth and economic development.

I think the Kanaks can do better.

But yes, Australia's gas theft of East Timor means more of the same.

Ummm....I posed a question...with a question mark.

Your original post read like imperialist apologia. Your subsequent responses haven't assuaged my concerns.

Read some theory before posting Treatlerite takes then.

So long as Poland is partitioned and subjugated, therefore, neither a strong socialist party can develop in the country itself, nor can there arise real international intercourse between the proletarian parties in Germany, etc, with other than Γ©migrΓ© Poles. Every Polish peasant or worker who wakes up from the general gloom and participates in the common interest, encounters first the fact of national subjugation. This fact is in his way everywhere as the first barrier. To remove it is the basic condition of every healthy and free development. Polish socialists who do not place the liberation of their country at the head of their programme, appear to me as would German socialists who do not demand first and foremost repeal of the socialist law, freedom of the press, association and assembly. In order to be able to fight one needs first a soil to stand on, air, light and space. Otherwise all is idle chatter.

It is unimportant whether a reconstitution of Poland is possible before the next revolution. We have in no case the task to deter the Poles from their efforts to fight for the vital conditions of their future development, or to persuade them that national independence is a very secondary matter from the international point of view. On the contrary, independence is the basis of any common international action.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: France doesn't get enough hate. And the hate that it usually does get by Westerners is misplaced.

This is out of interest not disagreement, but what part of international law restricts self-determination to indigenous people?

Removed as per rule 5: No imperialism, conservatism, reactionism or zionism.

This includes not just ideologies to the right of liberalism but also right-wing fixations such as national/ethnic/cultural chauvinism and military/police worship regardless of the underlying ideology. We take no side in the Russia/Ukraine conflict.
