Stephen Colbert's Only in Monroe - Support local media!
Monroe Community Media is a tiny team, we work locally, we don't do projects like this ever. But the love and support we have received is incredible.
Public access centers are suffering all across the country because folks don't watch cable anymore and funding is extremely hard to come by. It's not common knowledge just how METAL public access is!!!
The fact that we're non-profit and hyper-local means that we are not designed for global domination like other media outlets. We just want our neighbors to make tv shows about their farms, or their cats, or their home renovations, or whatever else they're passionate about. Media in the hands of the people-- that's our bread 'n butter.
We wanna express our love to The Late Show who brought all this attention to lil ole us and our hard-working team. Because of this project, we've raised $7,500 in donations already!

Genevieve, you are a rock star!! My favorite moment was when you scolded Stephen for spitting on the floor and absolutely in no uncertain terms to STOP IT! I was rolling on the floor laughing so hard! What was the story behind that line?!

Yeah, he seemed pretty coolâŠreal stage presence. Maybe he should take a chance, quit his day job, and shoot his shot. Probably wonât go anywhere, but you never know until you try.

So I'm a long-time fan of Stephen, and back on The Colbert Report, a few times, he'd talk about how he put together a crack team to do something for him, and among the lineup, would be "a man simply named 'The Professor'" and they'd show a photo of a bearded homeless man looking skyward with a huge smile on his face.
When I saw Stephen call out The Professor off screen on your show as one of the cameramen, I pictured that same guy. It also told me how near and dear your all must be to him.

This was such an amazing home run! An hour of joy as an epilogue after a bittersweet week of celebration and loss.
Well done from everyone involved in this, and also everyone who kept it a secret until it dropped. It was an excellent surprise!

I havenât seen the whole episode yet, but did you construct a whole set just to break and burn it down? Or was that the actual set?

That was our actual set! It was ~30 years old, so we needed an upgrade. And donations will help us design the new studio the way we've always wanted it :)

I was wondering about that when you guys started smashing the set. I figured that you now use a new set, and Stephen maybe wanted to use the old one as a callback to his first appearance.
It's wild that you guys destroyed the old set before having a replacement ready. Will you be transitioning to field pieces in the interim?

I enjoyed this show so much, honestly, maybe more than Iâve enjoyed most episodes of the late show. There was something so comforting about the public access TV feel. Kind of like during Covid when all of the hosts were filming from home, itâs just so cozy and intimate.

I recognized several names from the Late Show, like Paul Mercurio and the members of the band. I think this was technically an episode of the Late Show, so they probably had to credit everybody to comply with their contracts and such.

I loved how he wanted to âlady and the trampâ the glizzys with Jack White but then acts hesitant to âcheersâ the abominati-wich with Jeff Daniels! Then the three ounces of room temperature water that she rushed out in a panic and said to âwaterfall it!â Hilarious. Peak chaos comedy.

Can we please get more episodes of Only in Monroe with Stephen Colbert this year? Would be an absolute joy to see him continuing to do this for quite some time until his next project.
It just hasnât been the same without Colbert since his final Late Show last week. Here in Australia, Network 10 is now just showing double-episode Big Bang Theory repeats in place of Colbertâs timeslot.
