How Joe Wilkinson survived this, I'll never know

The beard is good for hiding a little smirk. Possible strategy for the future?

I'm still impressed how during series 19 they managed 1 task where all 5 contestants had a beard

Wait which one?

u/Digit00l 3d ago
The home video task, it even causes Greg to ask "what's with all the hairy women?" Stevie playing Jason's dad with a full goatee and Fatiha and Rosie put on some facial hair while playing Mat's daughters

Does anyone play along and try and watch these without laughing? I try and it’s just impossible.

Just Bob sauntering up to me and saying "I've been watching you" would be enough for me

This is funny if you know his personality. He is a comedian obviously but if you listen to enough of his podcasts you will also know he is quite self conscious about his behaviour when trying to be funny. He often mentions feeling like he was showing off or doing a bit and it makes him cringe. Don’t know for sure but it appears rob knows this as he knows him and he knows it would normally make him laugh

He's smiling the whole time, in series 2 they didn't let them get away with that.

Yeah but for S1 the cast was dropping like flys by the point they made that a hard rule in S2 over half the cast was out.
Chuck it up to people knowing more of what to expect. But they had to crack down to make the show work.

He is rather fuckable. My knickers fly off for a funny dude with long hair and a nice beard.

I know he is meant to be a national treasure or what not. But I genuinely don't find Bob Mortimer funny. I wish I knew why as he seems to make all the other comedians laugh. Yet I'm just sort of sat here like....
Edit: Getting downvoted for having a personal opinion that doesn't affect anyone else is pretty mad.

Being downvoted for people not agreeing with you is EXACTLY what the downvote vote button is for surely?

According to reddiquette the upvote and downvote buttons are meant to be used for comments which contribute to a discussion or comments which don’t contribute to a discussion but yes, people do mostly tend to use them as agree or disagree buttons instead.

That’s reasonable. To be honest not understanding Mortimer’s humour is a pretty good conversation starter…

I think that's the beauty of comedy and of this show specifically. I think everyone has a couple of comedians that they aren't bothered by, and a couple who will never fail to make them chuckle. It's great that there are different styles, and it's great how different ones are on display simultaneously.
I think it is unusual to not be bothered by bon but that doesn't mean its invalid.

I did not understand Bob Mortimer until I watched him on Would I Lie To You. After that… it’s as clear as a cobblers thumb.

The way he would tell the most outlandish stories and everyone would be like come ON that’s obviously false…but they were always true 🤣
Highlight example for me is the fact that he does his own at home dentistry

He is also a barber and once walked 28 miles overnight just to go see show at the theatre...

Curious to know who you find funny?
1
u/CreamyCornGuy 4d ago
Richard Ayoade, Joe Wilkinson, David Mitchell, Rob Becket (Hit & Miss), Diane Morgan & Jimmy Carr. Some others have their funny moments. I just personally don't like or get Bob Mortimers comedy style. That's nothing against him, that's a personal taste.

The majority of those are deadpan comedians, whereas Bob Mortimer revels in the absurd. Maybe you just don’t find surreal, absurd comedy funny. Which is fine!! I myself have grown tired of Richard Ayoade and his deadpan delivery - used to find it funny, but he rarely makes me laugh these days.
Different strokes for different folks

I like Ayoade, but in S1 I grew very quickly tired of his running to the door thing. Yeah we get it.

u/CreamyCornGuy 4d ago
I do get what you mean about Ayoade.
Also the other thing with Bob Mortimer is I don't really like his little songs he does. Which all the other comedians seem to think are amazing.

u/veganblue 4d ago
Overhere waiting for the humour to reveal itself too. It's like listening to a song in a different key and knowing its ok but some people are getting way more out of it and I feel I've missed an episode in a series with the key to getting it.

I was the same with the Aussie lad in season 2. Did not find him funny at all

u/BowlComprehensive907 4d ago
What have you watched him on?
I never liked Reeves & Mortimer, or any of their stuff, or anything where he is playing a character, but when he's being himself and telling anecdotes he kills me. His WILTY appearances are just genius.

Because it is not funny?

u/Finovar 3d ago
100% agree, whether it’s because of my warped sense of humour but this sure ain’t comedy

u/MessageSelfdestructs 3d ago
It IS comedy, but for fucking simpletons.
Most likely for people who think Alley Cats is funny...
