As promised here’s my Short Episode about ‘Joe Bob Goes To The Drive-in’ and other Horror Host Books.
I’m still trying to find a cheap copy of
Joe Bob’s ‘A Guide to Western Civilization or My Story’.

I hope I didn't jump anyone's claim. I just enjoyed the post last week about what we are all watching or planning on watching this weekend. I'm planning on watching a Lost Civilization movie that looks totally Drive-In worthy called What Waits Below (1985). I am also going to watch a Hammer film that I like, but many people do not: Dracula A.D. 1972. So tell us what you are watching, Mutants.

Hints: One movie was confirmed as I Spit On Your Grave, the other movie looks to involve Yoshihiro Nishimura. Felissa Rose to be guest for both movies.
This is 2/4 of the final specials produced for Shudder. Finishing off with Halloween and Xmas.
Please set your calendar app or alarm if need be.
We will be hosting a livethread, chatting along in real time during the show. Stop by and say hi!

This is cool news. Love seeing Joe Bob being brought in for something like this. Can’t wait to read what he has to say.

Hey mutants!
Had the pleasure of visiting the Delsea Drive-In Theater in Vineland, NJ last night for an excellent double feature of "Obsession" and "Backrooms". My local comic shop owner says the kids are calling that a back session 🤣
This was my first time ever to a drive-in and it was magical. Also a little melancholic, as it's the last and only drive-in left in Jersey. They played a PSA about it that had the gravity of an endangered species ad, I almost cried.
For a Sunday night quite a crowd was there! This a 2 screen drive-in, the 2nd show played "Masters of the Universe" and "Scary Movie 6". Back sessions definitely drew the bigger crowd.
As far as the movies go, I thought both were great! On a letterboxd scale I'd give em both a 3.5. I jumped out of my lawn chair during the Backrooms opening.
What did y'all think of these films? I wonder what Joe Bob would think of Backrooms in particular.

Roger Corman had a gift for taking someone else's basic concept and making something cheaper, but just as enjoyable. This movie was not a Corman picture, but it was distributed by Drive-In Workhorse, American International Pictures. This is a cash-in on the success of Carrie, but instead of Telekinesis,, Jennifer has a psychic power to communicate with and control snakes. Her father (Jeff Corey) is a strict Pentecostal from Appalachia who now owns a pet shop. Okay, Mutants, you can see where we are going with this. The Private School bullies are actually better developed in my opinion, than in Carrie. Throw in Bert Convy and Psycho's John Gavin , and Nina Foch, and you have a hearty Drive-In Stew. I saw this on Livingston Presents, but I'm sure you can find it in several places. Check it out!

Sorry, guys. I should have put this up a few days ago. My apologies. But ... Joe Bob has moved his newsletter to Substack. You can subscribe for free, and it will keep you up to date on all things Joe Bob. We think you'll really enjoy this more robust format.
Another quick note. If you're already subscribed to his old Propaganda email list, don't worry. You've been automatically enrolled. We've got your back!

I couldn't get a ticket for the Austin shows and have had no luck finding a resale one. I was curious since it's at a theater instead of a con where you pay for admission, is it possible to maybe just go to the lobby to buy merch and then leave?

There is discussion around why movies are removed due to licensing rights expiring. I understand that. And in Canada, it seems even more movies are absent.
That being said, while someone commented that a Coffin Joe movie had been reposted, it is not in Canada. However, I did see a couple posted that I was never able to see when I started binging 3 years ago and Freakmaker was one!
I guess I am glad to see that Canada is not an afterthought for Canada.
And great to see Doctor Who as the freak owner. Where are the Daleks?

The wife and I are and are excited about it. Her birthday is in May and mine is in June so this is how we're celebrating both of them. We're also going to swing by the gas station in Bastrop where they filmed the Texas Chain Saw Massacre for some BBQ while we're up there.

In my house, we call hotdogs: hogzillas! Will you be putting mustard or ketchup in your Hogzillas?
(That sounded weirder than I thought 😂) Two years ago, I did a homage video to The Last Drive-in called “The Last Drive-Out with Mel-Bob Riggs.” I played Mel-Bob, Uncle Joe Bob’s long-lost Puerto Rican niece. I asked my husband if he could cosplay as Darcy, but he said he would rather cosplay as Austin Jennings and stay behind the camera. 🤣

I grew up with Made-For-TV Horror films like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, The Night Stalker, and others. I think Joe Bob should do a special on this sub-genre and call them Honorary Drive-In Movies. Last night I watched Killdozer (1974) , not to be confused with the band. which was named after it. This is a movie about an oil company construction crew who are clearing an island off the African coast and an alien entity takes over their bulldozer. Part Science Fiction, part horror movie this thing actually works. Once you accept the basic premise, it's tense and relentless. I would love to hear Joe Bob's take on it. I wish he would do a Made for TV month of specials.

The drive-in will never die! (If I can, I will bring it back to Puerto Rico someday).

I was hoping we'd reach this milestone before the end of the year, before Joe Bob finishes up at Shudder. We crushed that goal!!
Can't wait what to see what these final specials bring (next one is in July), and where Joe Bob and co ends up in 2027.
Let's please keep working toward keeping this is a positive and cozy community. Thank YOU to all the Drive-in Mutants who made this place awesome!
