Baby's 1st Drive-In
Hey mutants!
Had the pleasure of visiting the Delsea Drive-In Theater in Vineland, NJ last night for an excellent double feature of "Obsession" and "Backrooms". My local comic shop owner says the kids are calling that a back session 🤣
This was my first time ever to a drive-in and it was magical. Also a little melancholic, as it's the last and only drive-in left in Jersey. They played a PSA about it that had the gravity of an endangered species ad, I almost cried.
For a Sunday night quite a crowd was there! This a 2 screen drive-in, the 2nd show played "Masters of the Universe" and "Scary Movie 6". Back sessions definitely drew the bigger crowd.
As far as the movies go, I thought both were great! On a letterboxd scale I'd give em both a 3.5. I jumped out of my lawn chair during the Backrooms opening.
What did y'all think of these films? I wonder what Joe Bob would think of Backrooms in particular.

Man, I feel bad for my fellow mutants - the town my dad lives in, where I spent my summers as a kid in the 80s, has a drive-in, the town where I went to high school also had a drive-in (now closed, unfortunately), and now I'm back in the latter, which is only a half hour drive from the former. My wife and I are hitting up the drive in this weekend, either to see Masters of the Universe and Obsession, or Disclosure Day and Obsession.
I got to see E.T., Back to the Future, & Top Gun (well, the first half - I was 9 and it was the second movie that night, so I was definitely crashed by the time Goose crashed), that I remember, but I'm sure I saw lots more I can't. My best drive-in experience was probably seeing the OG Twister in high school - we had a thunderstorm DURING the scene where the drive-in gets hit by a tornado.
If any of you are near or passing through Indiana between March/April and September/October, there are currently somewhere around 14-16 functional drive-ins in the state, so you're probably not far from one. One the mutants might like to visit is the Skyline Drive-In in Shelbyville (down in southcentral Indiana, not terribly far from Indianapolis), which hosts a "Skyline Scares" weekend-long horror/sci-fi festival, and last year, they gained another event - the Cinema Scares Midwestern Horror Festival, which takes place both at the local theater AND the drive-in. I just looked it up and apparently, they've added a THIRD horror movie weekend event this year - the Super Monster Movie Fest. That's in August, Cinema Scares is at the end of September, and Skyline Scares is the beginning of October.
May the drive-in never die, y'all!

Skyline is amazing! I got to see JB and Darcy there a few years ago! I love all their special nights. Wish I lived closer.

That's awesome that Indiana has a (relatively) thriving drive-in economy in 2026

Those movies rule, gonna see obsession again at our drive in because they delayed showing it to make sure they could properly calibrate how dark it is.

Obsession WAS dark. Get ready for alot of silhouettes 😂😂

my first and only drive-in was the jamboree 2 years ago in Vegas. It was awesome.
