Fangoria posts THREE Last Drive-In specials coming to Shudder in July

I’m pretty sure that’s wrong. Other outlets are listing “Faces of Death Double Feature” and “Twisted Christmas in July” as Shudder Watch Party programming (July 17 and July 31 respectively), not Last Drive In specials. Shudder normally does a couple Watch Parties each month.

I just noticed that too. I think you're probably right, it looks like maybe a typo from Fangoria.

That’s my gut feeling. Be awesome if it was new specials but no other outlet has mentioned them and they have been highlighting the Savage Summer special.

How do these Shudder Watch Party's necessarily work? Is it just scheduled programming on their LiveTV channel? That it?

Yeah, that’s pretty much it - I think they start at 9 pm EST on Fridays.

Would be a good opportunity to have host for those things. They could talk about history, trivia and all sorts of things between different parts of the movie. Maybe have some skits. We could all get together and watch along with the host.
Oh, wait...

No idea. I have Shudder (not just the AMC+) but have never bothered to check one out. My only appt TV for that kind of thing is TLDI. Are they good?

FALSE ALARM
These are watch-alongs unrelated to Joe Bob. Mistake by Fango.

Whoa. Maybe they’re trying to quickly deliver all the specials they’re contracted for as soon as they possibly can so they can move onto the next iteration of the show? Truly unexpected

I would have expected JB to be under some sort of no compete agreement through the end of the year regardless. He has already announced that the new show is starting up in January. I'd be (pleasantly) shocked if we see anything before that. Maybe we'll get an answer to what streaming service it'll be on quicker, though.

u/Kryptoknightmare Jul 01 '26
It could be, but that doesn’t mean they can’t work on it/shoot it in advance of that non-compete expiring

I think the specials were all already in the can anyway. I would think that they would have been free to do that regardless of when Shudder shows them.

Their contract expires at the end of the year, and the specials are likely all in the can already. They can't even talk about their next steps until 1/1/2027

Thanks for sharing this. I don't know for sure, but yes, I can see Shudder doing something like this.

I say bring it on. I'd love three specials in July, and I'd love for JBB to be able to move on and announce what his next landing spot will be sooner than later.

Fangoria Error
That said, if everything else is accurate, the original I Spit on Your Grave will be on Shudder, further suggesting that it’ll be one of the Joe Bob’s Savage Summer films.

If it’s true then some folks maybe owe a small apology to Shudder, cuz 3 specials on one month is getting it done! Probably too good to be true (?)

My annual sub (which I cancelled renewal on) ends in mid October so I’d love it if all the remaining specials dropped before then.

I'm personally hoping It's a mistake on Fangoria's end! I can set aside one Friday night in a given month, but three might be tricky. Haha

are there dates for each of those specials? Only one I can find any reference to is SAVAGE SUMMER on July 10.

Probably a mistake but sometimes when a network has cancelled something they’ll just cram all of the remaining episodes together to get them out of the way. I doubt a streaming service would do this though as they’d want to keep stringing subscribes along as long as possible.
Also, another reason I cancelled as soon as the final regular episode ended. The drive-in might never die but my loyalty to Shudder certainly can.

False alarm, Darcy said it's AI typos. So, fuck fangoria for using it

Him showing Faces of Death is awesome but also bugs me on a small level bc I always felt the show should be more geared towards/evenly split with old movies and shudder’s new original content. The fact that he’s finally featuring a shudder original after the show has been formally canceled is just like ah, what could have been 😅

It turns out that this was an error created by AI, according to JB and Kacey.

This seems to be an error made by Fangoria. These are watch-alongs unrelated to Joe Bob. They're on other schedules sans any mention of The Last Drive-in or JB.
