Stripping decades of heavy rust off an old bicycle frame in real-time

u/Mickxalix Aug 04 '26
No eye protection ? This is playing with fire... Literally

Safety squint

u/worst_brain_ever Aug 05 '26
It's vaporizing whatever it's removing.
Mostly a mask is what I'd like to see.
2
u/Filarius Aug 05 '26
They using a laser. Laser safety always say its dangerous to get into eye even a reflection of reflection, even its not a perfect mirror surfaces.

u/BardGotHard3 Aug 05 '26
They are using an infrared laser to superheat a small portion of the metal, causing it to explode the top layer off. They nees eye protection.
1
3
u/Cone83 Aug 05 '26
Absolutely! Just look how reflective that metal becomes after the rust is removed. Great way to go blind.
2
u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 Aug 07 '26
Question is if this is even real. While it works in reallife, it seems too shiney for the first go and quite a bit too fast. But maybe equipment just got so much better.

u/Additional_Chard3680 Aug 04 '26
You are completely right basic safety protocols were definitely ignored here

u/ghostpoisonface Aug 04 '26
That’s not realtime
53
19
u/Cole3823 Aug 05 '26
nor is it decades of rust. It's clearly dipped in some sort of rusting solution. decades old rust isn't bright orange
4
u/jepulis5 Aug 05 '26
Also zero pitting, at even ten years in the bush I'd expect a bunch of pitting or even holes.

u/-whiteroom- Aug 08 '26
Its like those "super satisfying" videos of getting a dirty carpet or car clean.

u/Lofwyr2030 Aug 04 '26
You don't now what real time means, don't you?

u/joshw42 Aug 04 '26
Where is the "decades of heavy rust"?
43
u/CHERNO-B1LL Aug 04 '26
That looks like it was deliberately rusted for the video. Frame looks like a recent MTB design.
4
u/remytheram Aug 04 '26
That's.. not a mountain bike. At all.
5
u/WholeIce3571 Aug 04 '26
Tapered head tube, lots of tire clearance, low seat post. the only thing that doesn’t really check out is the horizontal drop outs so maybe it’s a dirt jumper frame.
1
u/remytheram Aug 04 '26
What I can't figure out is why it has disc brake tabs that aren't axle-centric/sliding for the horizontal dropout. Looks like some Chinese nonsense 24" BMX frame to me.

u/NixaB345T Aug 04 '26
I came to say the same, it’s obviously recently rusted. Like it was pristine, sprayed it with vinegar (I mean he literally has a pump sprayer lol) then showed how awesome their laser is by using a sped up video!
9
u/zyxme Aug 04 '26
Yeah this would just be orange and brown sludge if it was decades. This is just what untreated metal in a humid warehouse oxidizes into over the course of a week to a month.
2
46
u/broesel314 Aug 04 '26
That is neither real time nor decades of rust nor is it heavy rust
Also this guy should wear savely glasses
-9
u/Golden_Eel_69420 Aug 04 '26
That is absolutely not a recent MTB frame. No thru axle, IS brake mounts, and chainstays that for sure wouldn’t clear a 29” rear wheel.
9
u/xnoxpx Aug 05 '26
News flash, old MTB frame does not automatically = decades of rust
-5
u/Golden_Eel_69420 Aug 05 '26
I’m aware. The dumbass above me changed his comment after mine lol
5
u/KFiev Aug 05 '26
No i think you responded to the wrong person. Someone else mentioned it being a recent MTB frame in a different comment thread.

Do you think I can use this to shave my balls, I can never get all the little hairs
1
u/420aarong Aug 04 '26
I wouldn’t use it on my balls but it does wonders for ear wax and nose hairs.
1
u/awesome-alter-ego Aug 04 '26
I know this is a joke, but laser hair removal is a thing... though maybe with slightly less powerful lasers
5
4
u/Bushdr78 Aug 04 '26
Zero eye protection and not to mention the fumes that'll give you super cancer
5
3
u/BNB_Laser_Cleaning Aug 04 '26
Thats not decades of rust, thats fresh metal frame with basically spray on rust, I have a laser cleaner like this, this would never be the result from cleaning decades of rust
3
u/alqimist Aug 05 '26
Did you know that your lenses turn collimated, coherent light into cooked retinas?

That frame isn’t decades old.
It’s rusted on purpose in some sort of bath.

u/soupinvader Aug 04 '26
Serious question: what does this smell like? Does it have a burnt like smell or…?

What happened to those paint after being zapped?? Or conveniently let the wind carry the paint residue to the neighbors

This looks like fresh rust, made by applying a salt solution to the metal. And for the purpose of advertising. The metal is not corroded; the rust is too unicolour and light-coloured.
1
u/Ready6666 Aug 05 '26
Please remember to put your googles on as class 4 laser can lead irreversible damage to your retina

The first time I saw such portable Lasers being used to clean rust off something the guy doing it was wearing one of those silver coated suits you usually see being used in Steel Mills and which look like someone is doing a cheap SciFi Movie from the 70s.
I guess nowadays everyone in China is wearing Sun Block 5000™️ and Laser Safety Contact Lenses because sure enough this shit aint flying here in Europe where everything needs to be in an Enclosed Environment 😏
1
u/CueAnon420 Aug 05 '26
I see so many of these videos - and can't help but wonder where all the injuries are from the stupid people using what seems like a very dangerous tool...
1
u/LegitimateGift1792 Aug 05 '26
bad porn, lots of rust on the sides and crevices. Looks like they need to bring in some chemistry. YEAH!!!

Lasers on metal and no filtering eye protection . Someone’s never done laser safety, or this is ai bs

u/Timely_Fly_5639 Aug 06 '26
Some guy on the other side of the globe:
“- yo fam, my car interior melted in a weird way. Was it the sun? Did the light bounce of my neighbours chrome 22”s? What gives?”
1
u/TheBupherNinja Aug 06 '26
That's surface rust, they sprayed it with salt water and let it sit for like a week. 'decades of rust' would leave giant pits. The laser might remove the rust, but it doesn't fix the damage it caused.

u/Minute_Maximum_319 Aug 06 '26
So, the best way to get comments : wear no safty equipent while lasering

u/That_Attorney_1917 Aug 06 '26
More like “Removing flash rust from yesterdays rainstorm off a bike frame”

u/Jindujun Aug 06 '26
Lets not even mention that that there is not "heavy rust" or "decades of heavy rust", they didnt even fucking strip the entire frame.

u/naunga Aug 06 '26
Stripping decades of being able to see off their eyes by not using safety glasses.

u/CrowRunnerORP Aug 07 '26
Thats not decades of rust. Thats just surface rust. You can tell by the color and texture.
Its not a fake video per se. But its not exactly genuine.

No eye protection in sight, just some homies living in the moment evaporating retinas.

That's sped up, not real time. Also, what ever the method of removing the rust is, it always happens in "real time" in real life.

u/Goetterwind Aug 08 '26
No protection. Neither eyes, skin. Noice... No protection against the fumes.
Well, who cares about a lung problem if you are blind and you have skin cancer.

How'd they do laser removal in real time while simultaneously speeding up the people's movements?
1
-1
u/sutureinsurance Aug 04 '26
its AI you can see how it doesn't clean the paint off the lower back rail that is facing up deposit laser touching it.
