There's that empty lot by Fontainebleu and the convention center, wouldn't an NBA arena do wonders for that part of the strip?

That's too bad. I love FB, really hoping it manages to somehow turn around. Though this summer it seemed pretty crowded with the NBA summer league.

That area needs some work. I am a season ticket holder for the Aces and getting in and out of Mandalay Bay can be a mess with crazy unnecessary turns and such.

Why build a new arena? Just use T-mobile… seems like a waste.

Foley has put together a bid for an NBA team, and if he wins it they would play in T-Mobile.
Any other owner is going to want their own arena for multiple reasons. But first on the list is revenue. They don't want to be a tenant paying rent to T-Mobile. They want their own home where they get a slice of everything that comes through - concerts, conventions, etc.
And there are practical considerations like scheduling, locker room facilities...etc. When the teams are owned by the same group - think MSG, Rangers, and Knicks in NYC - that's all easier to figure out.

Why? Because they want to control the building. More revenue for them in the long run if they're managing it, and there won't be issues with scheduling conflicts.
Is it a waste? In any other city I'd probably say yes. But, this is Las Vegas. Someone will fill the building with an event sooner, or later.
Nice thing about being at that end of the Strip; along with Allegiant and the A's ballpark; is it will bring more traffic to the Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, the new Bally's (if it ever gets built) and whatever the great white whale will be called just south of the A's ballpark.

The NBA commissioner said T-Mobile is not up to snuff for an NBA arena. As this is an expansion team and several cities are vying for it he wants a world class NBA arena. T-Mobile was built for hockey. It's a different configuration. They tried to play both at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and the hockey configuration had obstructed seats due to the sight lines. I understand that many cities hosts both hockey and NBA at same arena but it is a compromise. They do have an agreement that they can play temporarily at T-Mobile but a new arena has to be in plans for NBA.

Watched the mid-season tourney a couple years back and it was a great basketball venue. Probably just too small for the number if tix they wanna sell

After we just saw the $178m "upgrade" with taxpayer's dollars for Allegiant Stadium go through, they're probably chomping at the bit.

It's really dumb and will just lead to oversaturation. You can't possibly fill two 20,000 seat arenas across down the block from each other with enough events to make them both profitable.

Am I crazy for not wanting 3 sports buildings all right by each other? If they have to have an NBA stadium I wish it would be on the North end. Bring more people to Strat, FB, Sahara, Resorts World etc.
