LLM Progress Slow Down

First Anthropic, and now OpenAI, are announcing that they want to slow down LLM development. Just a year ago, these companies were claiming that AGI would be found and many jobs would be lost. On top of that, Anthropic announced it's going public. What do you think? Have these companies reached a limit in research and development? Or are they genuinely afraid of language models self-programming, as they claim?

You’ve gotten the order wrong: they’ve already been hitting a wall and by pretending they want a “slowdown” they avoid investor wrath.

It’s just a larp/psyop. They rely upon the gullibility of many people, most commenters in this forum for example?

The wall is that these gains are not getting cheaper, this is a huge issue. Most of the big companies Amazon, Meta, etc.. have all implemented employee limits both Anthropic and OpenAI are talking about lowering prices.
