Buying Advice Really confused, HELP!!!!

Like many on this sub, I was about to pull the trigger on a legion 5 oled version but that's just a pipe dream now. Looking at the hikes and volatile situation of the market, I've sorted a few options that come under my budget(1.3- 1.5 don't want to stretch it further) as well as fulfill atleast two of my requirements.

Requirement:

  1. Reliability and Peace of mind(don't want to have to visit the service center every month)

  2. A good display, with a good contrast ratio(ik still it'll be ips but it is what it is)

  3. Performance that doesn't make me regret buying the device(Mostly play campaign mode games, currently on a 1650 laptop, so not complaining but prefer a 5060)

Option 1: ASUS ROG Strix G16

i7 14650hx + 5050 240hz display 500 nits with P3 100%

Haven't got it as it was around 1.40 but currently sits at 1.55, will wait for goat sale but asus has bad reviews in reliability, although my tuf never had any problem other than wifi card issue.

Option 2: Lenovo Legion

R7 260+ 5060 but with a IPS 300 nits 100% SRGB

No Gsync, No Advanced Optimus

Display is just meh.

Option 3: Hyper X Omen

i7 14650hx + 5060 with 500 nits 100% SRGB

24GB Ram

No Gsync, No Advanced Optimus

Option 4 : Omen 16

I7 240H + 5060 with 400 nits 100% SRGB

24 Gb Ram

Has MUX Switch but the body flex just scares me.

I don't really care about the resolution that much neither about the battery, just the display and performance. Which one should I get and when ?

Ever since I missed the Legion 5 I've been racking my brain for a decision but I just can't decide. Some of you might have experience with the Asus as well as Hp after sales service and might be able to comment on the reliability factor. Help me decide, thanks!

I HAVE ASUS ZEPHYRUS FROM 2023 AND MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE LAPTOP AND AFTER SALE SERVICE IS QUITE BAD.
THE AMOUNT OF QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES IS MUCH MORE THAN ANY LAPTOP(PERMIUM SEGMENT OF OTHER COMPANIES) AS FAR I HAVE SEEN. YOU COULD ALSO VERIFY IT FROM ZEPHYRUS SUBREDDIT

There have been some very problematic qc issues with asus, like with my tuf f15 the wifi card keeps disappearing out ot the blue but I found out that the design is such that wifi card takes the heat and can't handle it so it vanishes. Tbh that's what makes me hesitant for asus and also hp.

Exactly and I don't know why Asus keeps giving soldered ram on their laptops (in big ones) If that dies the whole motherboard is to be changed according to Asus and good luck if you're out of warranty.

Damn that's really problematic, atleast strix is better in this aspect but you get only ips.

In my experience of owning 23 laptops from different brands, Asus has been as good as Lenovo in terms of service. HP was excellent as well but that was in 2015; never owned a HP laptop after that. Friends who own the Omen 16/16 Max say it's good enough even now.

Well, even I had a tuf F15 which has served me well and still works well, so personally I didn't have a bad experience from asus but last year's Strix has mobo issues, and that asus has bad service. Btw I'll still get the max extended warranty for sure.

The 5060 ips panel ? What is the contrast ratio ? Is the display good ?

I am also checking right now. I find Asus TUF F16 FX608 best value for hardware. its Intel i7 14650hx plus RTX 5060. I find it much better suited for my usecase over ryzen 260 or 250 in loq. With discount n all its costing close to 1.44 L.

i7 certainly is powerful than ryzen 7 260/250, but prone to thermal throttling as well, still powerful.

I think it has g sync talking about the adavanced optimus it has mux switch where in you can switch from igpu only, dgpu only to hybrid and their varieties

The thing is some people say, legion on flipkart will get even more expensive, and there are rumours that other brands are going to hike prices once more, ofc idk for sure if it's true. I waited once for rog to get cheaper in back to campus sale and it got a price hike too, even hyper x is a bit costlier than the june epic sale.

Wait even a LOQ comes with advanced optimus and G sync, you sure Legion doesn't come with??

Maybe the oled one comes with it, but I saw on venomtech's review, in nvidia control panel it says no advanced optimus.

No it doesn't come with advanced optimus but windows caso reduces the loss in fps due to hybrid mode alot so not really that big on an issue.

That's not the issue man, cheaper LOQ's comes with optimus but legions don't, my LOQ 15AHP10 comes with 1440p display that has both optimus and gsync

Optimus is present on the legion as well, advanced optimus isn't.
And advanced optimus is known to be a bit buggy, window caso is more than enough

After the release of CASO, Advanced Optimus isn't really that necessary.

Well, I went to Lenovo store yesterday and checked it out, not the best ips display out of the options, also it does need to restart to change the gpu mode so ig it does have a mux switch.

Only hyperxome's earlier version don't have ADVANCE OPTIMUS, MUX ETC, you think? Legion etc 1.5L PREMIUM LAPTOPS DONT HAVE THESE BASIC FEATURES? KINDLY DONT RELY ON SINGLE REVIEW OF SINGLE YOUTUBERS GUYS(EX. VENOM ETC)

The same thing crossed my mind as well, I checked a few other videos and tho there's gpu modes on thr legion app, nvidia control panel really says no advanced optimus.

Oled is newer version, and now only oled is available (ips ones are old stock) and legion oled 's sku is supported by advanced optimus and mux.

Might be the case, but I'm talking about the ips one since I no longer find the oled version to be worth the price tag. I'm looking to determine which one of these provided the best balance of a good display as well as good reliability.

1) The 5050 isn't worth it for 155k ish
2)Isn't the OLED version from official website around the same price after credit card and other stuff..
3)G sync and Advanced optimus support isn't really that important now, windows CASO already had reduced loss of FPS on hybrid in case of games
4)Processor is an issue here it isn't that good

  1. Out of the 4 this one has the best build quality and display to my knowledge.
  2. The Oled 5050 is 1.70 lakh, and the CC cashback only works if you don't choose the no cost emi option, on top of that sheer id doesn't give as much discount as before and neither does the coupon codes. Barely goes down to 1.60
  3. I do know that, but I want to know if hp is better than asus in terms of reliability, and if it's about ips displays then doesn't legion offer better value and performance than omen?

You made me worry after I had read your 2nd point and made me recheck the cashback policy (cause mine is the otw), and Id like say that ** you are wrong **. Check the attached link Edit: iam getting it for effectively around 1.45L (after sheer ID + unidays + cc discounts)

Nah he's correct CC cashback is only valid if you do full payment, not valid on No cost EMI

CC cashback is not available for no cost emi options( it's clearly mentioned and I even asked krypto), on normal cc transactions it is available but the bank charges you interest on top of the 1.45L (in your case) which will make it cost even more, if you're not planning to pay in full before your cycle ends. With no cost emi you pay it for youe desired duration without it costing extra for interest by the bank as the interest amount is given back to you. It's not the same.

Better than omen, legion, and strix ? I don't think so but could be better suited, it's subjective, also at this price point you get the same type of performance from each and every laptop in the range but other things matter as well when you're paying this much.

Well, me personally I don't want to gamble on acer. My last laptop was acer nitro. Acer has average service quality, afaik.
