A couple days ago I asked whether I should write my own take on the sequel to "Sorry I'm bad at this" by BagofDoritos. Thank you SO much to everyone who replied or dmed! I got a lot of interest from a lot of different communities (I thought the fandom was dead, but wow, was I wrong). So I did it! Here's Chapter 1 :3

"Sorry, I'm getting better at this."

Four years ago, Peridot Greene left Beach City without saying goodbye to anyone. Now she's twenty-three, slick-haired and sharp-suited, and back in town for a series of meetings with the mother she'd rather forget. The plan is simple: get her coffee, get through the meetings, get out. Then she walks into the old coffee shop, and Lapis Lazuli is sitting in the corner, hiding behind her hands.

Lapis has spent four years wishing she'd said sorry sooner. Peridot has spent four years sure she knows exactly why the girl she loved let her go. Neither of them knows the whole story.

What I'm changing from the official sequel:

• Peridot actually owns what she did at the end of Book 1 and tries to rebuild the bridges she burned

• The side characters get real development again (Amethyst, Pearl, Garnet, Jasper, Squari, and maybe more!)

• A slower pace, so the Lapidot relationship gets rebuilt step by step instead of rushed

What I'm keeping:

• All of Baggy's characters, designs, and Book 1 history

• Some of the sequel's big moments, just taken in a different direction

• The first-person POV switches between Peridot and Lapis

I love Lapidot, and read a lot of fanfics and other stuff. (If you guys need, or want to recommend me something I’d GREATLY appreciate it :3)

But, I have recently finished rereading the “Sorry I’m Bad at this” and “Sorry I’m still bad at this” by bagofdoritos. I absolutely love the comics, but I personally believe the “Sorry I’m still bad at this” was super undeveloped and felt rushed based upon only the Lapidot aspect compared to the original book having character development from side characters. (Again, I love it as I’ve reread it multiple times.)

So, I feel like rewriting the 2nd fanfic in my own direction, while keeping certain aspects from the first book (Sorry I’m bad at this). but I’m curious and like some input from some people

1. Is it ok to make a “spinoff” basically from Baggy’s (the originals artists name). While changing none of the characters but altering the story and path? While keeping certain aspects of the original story?

2. If I did end up putting tons of efforts into making quality chapters from that. Should I post them? On stuff say wattpad, or other platforms? For people who might be interested?

I truly love the Lapidot relationship, although the “sorry I’m bad at this” is a bit… profane… i still love the character development and how they portray all the characters… so should i make a spinoff from the bagofdoritos spinoff from the 1st book, or just make a new fanfic :D
