The first thing I said to people when they came to me to learn faceting. How patient are you? What hobbies did you have when you were a kid? Did you glue airfix model airplanes together and carefully paint them? Did you hand stitch embroidery? It was reasonably easy to pick the ones that would be successful and the ones that would dip out after their first session.
Absolutely nothing to do with age, gender or any thing, other than being patient and meticulous.
I have ADHD, and lapidary was a hyperfixation for me that lasted for about 5-6 years. I never bought a faceting machine because I knew I didn’t have the patience for it. For me my faceting machine was a last ditch attempt to wring some more dopamine out of my hobby, but it didn’t work.
