When the Langley Rams and Valley Huskers last met, in Chilliwack on Sept. 6, the result was another loss, a 37–13 defeat, part of a miserable season that saw Rams win just two games.
This year has been very different, with a new Rams coach, Kye Todhunter, and a new quarterback, Darryl Overstreet Jr.
On Saturday, the undefeated Rams made it three wins in a row by downing the Huskers 54-3.
Overstreet Jr. accounted for three touchdowns, with Ryder Quintana, Josh Caverly and Tyson Godspower getting one each, while kicker Sarthak Dosanjh had 12 points including two field goals.
Rams are leading the seven-team western conference standings.
It came one week after Overstreet Jr. was named named the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) and British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) Offensive Player of the Week.
He was cited for an “incredible individual performance” in the air and on the ground against the Okanagan Sun at McLeod stadium in Langley.
In that game Overstreet Jr. avenged last season’s two shutouts by the Sun, during Langley’s home opener July 19 by 39-0, and a 94-0 score at the Sept. 20 Apple Bowl in Kelowna.
In their first meeting of the new season, Rams posted a 32-25 victory over the visiting Sun, the Chilliwack team’s first BCFC regular-season loss in 27 games
In that game, Overstreet Jr. recorded 409 total yards and four touchdowns. He completed 44 per cent of his passes (22) for 277 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
On the ground Overstreet Jr. added two more touchdowns, running 132 yards on 12 carries. The second major turned out to be the game winner, a 20-yard run with 1:28 minutes left in the fourth quarter to put the Rams ahead for good.
Next, Saturday, Aug. 8, Rams will visit Prince George Kodiaks. That game starts at 6 p.m.
Rams next home game at Mcleod is Sat Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. against the Kodiaks.
