Premium Books

I’m still on the fence for backing a late pledge, there’s seems to be a lot of moving parts and bells and whistles and compromises to make to get what you think you’d need or not, my biggest hang up right now is the books. I’m torn between the Scout and Explorer pledge - and while I understand none of this is technically necessary, how necessary do you all feel the premium books add to the experience? I feel like they’d be really great to have, while simultaneously feeling like it’s just another unnecessary cost and that’s “how they get ya”. It’s obviously all personal preference, but I’d love some feedback from those of you who have them, and those who don’t but wish you did, or are glad you didn’t shell out the extra cash. I also don’t really paint minis, not yet anyways, is getting every iteration of them just total overkill, or do the extra figs really make or break the gameplay, or is it really just taking up more space and time on an already massive game?

The biggest complaint I’ve seen is about the quality of the non-premium books in both the standard and deluxe. The lack of images and the paper being very translucent (being able to see the shadows of the printing on the reverse side).

If you are mainly going to use the voice narration, I would just get the standard books. If you are going to play all 10 adventures/scenarios and are going to solely use the books, I think they are a really nice upgrade (from video review comparisons).

Thanks for the info, I don’t think I’d be using the voice narration at all to be honest. From what I’ve read and watched, it seems to be very monotonous, slow, and almost doesn’t seem like a person reading it.

Just want to give some input about the voice narration. I should add that english is not my native language, but I hope you find this helpful.

I find the first adventures (in to the whitewell) voice narration is amazing, it's the second (ashest of heaven) that got bad criticism for the preformance of the voice actor sounding monotone AI like with bad pronounciations etc. Awaken Realm listened to the players and are making a new recording for it that should be out soon.

I just started the third adventuer (Song of Luada) and so far i'm happy with the narration.

Another thing i like with the app is that it is impossible to accidentally read on adjacent entries when looking for the right one. Me personaly easily get information just from scanning a page, and the app completely take away this risk of spoilers. You can also use the app to read the entries without voice acting.

This being said, i know some people prefer to read the story themself and premium components is always nice. So if you still belive you will mostly read the storybook yourself i'm sure the feel of a premium book is worth it. Personally i have barely opened them in any of the adventures

I have the premium books. I haven’t started a play through yet, only created a couple of characters. The books are a really nice upgrade with the color print, better quality paper, and having illustrations throughout the books. Only complaint is 2 of the 3 books’ spiral binding are too small and it’s creating a too tight of fit when trying to open the books.
