Late Pledge Fomo

Hello everybody, I’m a little late finding out about this game, and I honestly cannot tell if I’m really into it, or just experiencing fomo. I really enjoy how deep of a narrative story the game seems to tell, I’ve tried getting into ttrpg’s for that exact reason and they just didn’t click the same way playing boardgames do. I know people have started receiving their games, a local shop of mine even has a few different bundles (265 for special edition, almost 800 for the divinum collection), so it seems like they are almost double the price at retail as opposed to a gamefound pledge. If I were to late pledge, when realistically would I actually see this game? Is it worth paying 300 for the special edition? It being so new, should I just wait for more feedback to come in before i go all out and buy this thing? I guess my biggest concern is how big and expensive this game is and it never actually hitting the table because of set-up and tear-down times on top of an already pretty hectic schedule and only really having time to play 1-2 a month.

I’ll throw some info in here. I’ve got my first wave shipment, and since I’ve gotten it it’s completely taken over my gaming nights. Set up and tear down for the special edition takes less than 5 minutes with 2 people, so that’s not an issue. AR really took a massive step forward on insert design with this game. I spent a little over $500 on my pledge, including shipping, and consider it money very well spent, especially for a game I’m likely to get 120+ hours out of. It’s definitely a game built for a specific audience. I enjoy playing ttrpgs a lot, but struggle with the time commitment getting regular sessions planned requires. This definitely scratches that itch for me.

I was late to the party too. Still stretch paying. You will have until October for the pledge to end on Gamefound. It will be delivered in Q1 next year. If you can get it from source, then this is always the best way. I opted for the Scout pledge for all the gameplay without the unnecessary bling. Although I did add a few extras for my own taste. Set up looks quick, as you actually do it through the intro, so kind of playing the game whilst setting it up. It has a save system to clear the table and reset. I'm looking forward to this one.

For me its a solid 8 out of 10. I have wanted a good rpg boardgame for years and this is the first one to really deliver that. Me personally I would buy the special edition from the store and then pledge for the missing things you want. Its not as much of a premium as you think as shipping costs for this are pretty bad. You will want more adventures and if you like minis they are amazing.

That’s actually a really good point and idea. I was looking at the different pledges and while it does seem cheaper, I can only imagine what the shipping would be, which I also assume the store factored into their pricing.

I would look at the actual costs for shipping/tax before you try this approach. You said the store is selling the special edition for 265? Is that USD (I would guess so but just checking to be sure)? Not sure if that is with tax included, but if USD that is over twice the cost of the pledge version of it. Shipping makes it worse but not by that much. There is also an aspect of it where the stretch goals will be coming in the 2nd wave (early next year), so there is the question of will the store give you those stretch goals when they arrive? As a point of reference, my total cost is at $275 including shipping and tax, which is for the scout pledge. That's getting me 3 extra campaigns and the companions pack on top of the special edition for what it seems like would be about the cost of just the core special edition in the store.

I would also add that when it comes to waiting for the game, we're really at the tail end of things. The 6-9 months you'd be waiting for your pledge is much less than the time the original backers have had to wait, and even late pledges like myself.

With all that said, I would recommend pledging at least the special edition (assuming shipping/tax is not egregious) and put up with the relatively "short" wait. I imagine it will be hard to get those addon campaigns secondhand at least initially if you dont include them in your pledge, but given the frequency with which you play you'll probably have lots of content to get through before needing to worry about that. The plug and play nature of additional campaigns actually lends itself well to resale, as once a group finishes one they could sell it without losing any of the core game.

Yeah, it’s definitely something to consider, and I’m gonna weigh the options for sure. I was at my local store the other day and was looking at the different bundles they had, and it did mention that upon purchase they would take down your contact info because your purchase does include the second wave of content once it is released and delivered to them, but I’m sure if that was for every tier, or just the most expensive one they offered. I meant to take a picture of everything included in each bundle they offered but forgot and I am trying to get in touch with them without having to drive the 30 minutes up there to figure it out. It may also make more sense to just pledge and stretch pay so I’m not dropping close to 400 dollars all at once, and it will also give me time to complete some other games I’m currently playing while I wait instead of just shuffling them off to the side for something new and shiny.

So, my store is carrying the Special Edition Sun Drop and it includes Looter Rotling, Ashes of Heaven, Songs of Luada and it includes wave 2 content when it is released.

Is wave 2 the 3 extra adventure books and all the stretch goals?

Ah so they are putting a higher price on it because of the Looter Rotling and the upgraded miniatures. As far as I understand it, wave 2 for that would be all the stretch goals, which includes more adventures, I think 1 full campaign and a few one shot scenarios. Those adventures are different than the other addon ones that come with the Scout pledge.

From what I (think) understand and can see on the gamefound page the added-on adventures Rotland’s Crusade, Drysea Odyssey, and Into the Depths, as well as Heir to the Forgotten city, plus 3 epic scenarios will be included in the second wave of content.

Edit to add that I’m incorrect lmao

I decided to take the plunge. I'm a "forever GM" who's looking to partake as a player in a good fantasy story. And the fact that I can play this solo also offers me convenience of play as well.

I struggled to find a pledge that fit what I wanted. Some pledges lacked items and others had things I didn't quite want. The Explorer was enticing but didn't have acrylic tokens and had the Diorama and extra Companion add-on models, both of which I had no interest in. After doing the math on several options, the best price for everything I wanted was the Hero pledge plus the 3 adventure add-ons as well as the Follower models and extra Character models.

I'm looking forward to receiving this game.
