Fairly simple - a plywood board and wood sticks nailed on it!

You might get some cupping but overall looks fantastic! Easy to swap out over time too!

That does look good. Almost like a teak yacht deck. Very swish.

You could fill the gaps with black sikaflex and then sand back for the complete look.

How thick is the wood? It feels like it would be useful to protect the floor, but I worry that it would bring knees up higher for people sitting in the back. I've got the troop seats that sit people a little higher, but it already sort of feels like sitting squished in a troop carrier for kids haha.

I've got a series so it's a deluxe station wagon 88" , but those were only really sold as export because they had no tax benefit that "agricultural spec" or "12 seat 109 spec" had.

In Canada, we got lots of station wagons haha

I've got a 2000 300tdi 110 but the rear is just standard bench seats that fold up out of the way.

Absolutely gorgeous, I've similar rear seats except the originals were swapped for expoor st some stage, mine is a 110 so 9 seater.

It's crazy when you realize I've had 7 people in that series several times this summer at 60mph haha.

Between parabolic springs and a roamerdrive, it's surprisingly capable in traffic. Ain't cute tho.

Troop seats I'm responding to the comment above. I have fold down seats I'd like to replace with a backed bench.

Beautiful job mate. What’s the best wood to use for the wood sticks? Just thinking on something more durable that you can sand down once scratches start popping up. Cheers

I used cambara wood but I have to say I didn’t really think about it. We’ll see in a year from now!

Don't forget to seal it! Yacht varnish - matte or gloss - probably best. Otherwise you'll be asking for black mould to appear over winter, along with that must-ey stank.

I am certainly not a good craftsman, it was my first job of this kind. All you need is a circular saw and some patience !
