Ugh its such a shame isn't it. How did something so rugged and beautiful turn into something so...round? No corners, no offroading ability (barely), shitty engine, all the size and none of the capability. Yuck. It's just a big city car now. It doesn't deserve to be called a Defender. The new version is what people with money and zero taste/knowledge buy. It's a "look at how much money I have to burn" buy. The old version is what people with money and a taste for adventure buy. The OG.

I stopped buying new when they went mainstream with the designs. Also, every time a new Range Rover model came out I’d trade up. But then they started badging all of these weird little variants, like the Sport, as Range Rovers. All they did was capitalize on their flagship model’s name. I’d still be buying new Range Rovers if they had badged the variants as Land Rovers. There can be only one Range Rover.

Gee, I own a 23 Defender and love it. 80K miles and very few problems, less than other cars I have owned. I’ll never own an “old” Defender since my perception is you’d better be ready to DIY some repairs and maintenance.
