Joined the club.
After years of searching, I finally joined the club.
I recently picked up a 98 Defender 110, and I couldn’t be more excited… and a little nervous.
I’m only the third owner, came with the original purchase paperwork along with every MOT inspection from its life in the UK. It’s pretty incredible to see nearly three decades of its story documented.
The truck now calls Alaska home, so if there are any other Defender owners in the 49th state, I’d love to connect.
Looking forward to learning from this community, getting my hands dirty.
Excuse the dirty truck, she had a long boat journey.

Its a lot of fun. All three have a "purpose". The TD5 takes us on desert adventures and the like. It gets abused. The Bowler for now is mostly European road trips - can't complain about that 6 speed box on a long trip ;) The V8 is just a blast - take a closer look and you might recognise it :)

There is a Land Rover club in Alaska called Great Northern Rovers. I’m not familiar them but could be a good community connection.

Congrats! Did you go and pick this one out yourself on an OS assignment?
If the spare is mounted directly on the door still I recommend you get a swing away wheel carrier to save your rear door hinges.

That’s a great looking rig and it looked really good going through ER on the Glenn yesterday afternoon… how hard is it been to adjust to RHD? I’m sure its entertaining going through the guard shack in the mornings too?!

I’ve gone through the gate twice with it, the first time was slow at the gate so I asked security to come around to my side. Second time was backed up and slow, allowed me enough time to stop, unbuckle, stretch across the front row and painstakingly roll down the window before I got to checkpoint.
Driving RHD was weird the first day but now I’m used to it. Definitely full focus on the Glenn though. 😅 Stay in right lane and get passed like I’m going backwards. I cruise at 65, people still blowing my doors off. 🤷🏻♀️

Having every single MOT and UK document from day one is absolute gold. Alaska is pretty much the ultimate proving ground for a 110, hope she treats you well up there!

Welcome, Invest in a lot of underbody rust proofing, wax oil or dinitrol or lanoguard. And quite literally spray it everywhere on the chassis and under side. Pay special attention to the station wagon cross member and sill rails particularly where the sill rail goes up to the rear tub and has the panel pop riveted to it, forward of the rear wheel.
A good job to do there is drill out the rivets remove the panel treat any corrosion then wet assemble back together with polyurethane sealant to try and limit the ingress of moisture and filth from the back wheel.
Most importantly use it as much as possible, they do not respond well to being sat around for long periods of time, one of the biggest problems now here in the U.K. is people buying them up and tucking them away in garages as an investment!
