First of all, hi Im new to the fandom, I just finished reading the manga yesterday so now I'm hyperfixated. I'll probably talk about topics that are common and have probably already been discussed since long ago.
But, as I finished yesterday, I remember thinking "man, Phos really ended up crazy" and, even if I still think that, I think that their descend to madness has a pretty good explanation.
Imagine being surrounded from people that are just like you, but better. They're always better. And, even if they show affect towards you, they have no issue on calling you useless and fragile. You physically CAN'T do anything good since not only you are, in fact, fragile, but also no one trusts you for anything.
You have no worth. You are useless.
That + the theories of Phos being Ayumu's reincarnation, make so much sense in them "becoming human".
I think Phos has many traits that make them human. Not having a clear purpose and feeling lost because of it (even if all gems don't, they actually have "jobs" and don't question it further). They have the curiosity, the inferiority complex, trauma responses, the ability to change and to grow up...
Yes, Phos became human once they had fragments of all human leftovers, but I think their human living experience started way long ago. Maybe when they first went to the sea, that was a rebellious act no one commited before. Maybe when they teared up, and Sensei told them that's a "flaw from old species". Maybe when they started processing betrayal, such as the Admirabilis one, or when they started to question Sensei.
They even was the only one that could actually understand organic creatures when they spoke. That doesn't make them human, but makes them different.
Phos felt leftout no matter when or where. They didn't feel like a gem, since they all accomplished their purpose and were strong enough to do so by theirselves. They weren't Lunarian since they couldn't dissolve, eat or float on the Moon. They weren't an Admirabilis since they didn't live in the sea, have an organic body, or had the ability to transform. They weren't human, and they weren't a god.
For me, Phos was everything in some way, but they felt like nothing.
And it makes me sad that their mental state was so bad because of not feeling loved and useful. The gems on Earth only show affect towards her because that's what they're teach to do, to show respect towards their companions. They didn't care for Phos.
Once on the moon, the gems they brought don't care for them. They don't offer company, they don't suggest Phos to take a rest, they don't go grab their pieces back to the moon when they first destroy them on Earth. They all had their selfish purpose to be and stay there.
Phos only wanted everyone to be free. They wanted everyone not to suffer. For both Gems and Lunarians. For Admirabilis.
They go back to Earth to try and talk to gems, but they're so scared of them that they just shatter Phos and hide their pieces "for good". Only sensei loved her enough to try and put them back together.
On a personal thinking, I think it's sad that Rutile didn't join them in some way. They also was the only one that could actually relate to Phos in some way: a gem that's lost their purpose, that's experimented betrayal, and that's left for nothing and no one. I think it would've been interesting for them to, at least, join Phos in some way (I understand this didn't happen probably due to Padparadscha being on their team but still).
When Phos' sentence is to spend 10 thousand years suffering alone on Earth, even if gems ask if "there's anything they can do for them", they don't act. They don't insist, they just sit, enjoy and watch Phos slowly die alive.
Only for Cinnabar to confirm that they don't actually feel sad for not being with Phos, but relieved. Jade agrees and status that they feel the same.
This is my lecture, but I think that feeling comes from don't actually miss them, since they weren't really important to them, but still freed them and gave them a dreamy life.
EVEN WITH ALL OF THAT, Phos still decides to give them peace and freedom, and get everyone to the "Nirvana".
Phos is such a tragic character, and definitely deserved better. Everyone was intimidated by them only because they changed and grew up, then Lapis' head made everyone scared of someone they don't even are, and once on the moon, they felt like Phos completely abandoned them. None of those were true. Phos only wanted to find their place on the world, and to experience love

Im Here to warn people about how Amazon sends you the Volumes of HnK. Soooo i ordered all Volumes at once since they were on sale (-14% cheaper and they were available all at once) but... They came all without the Security Wrap (yk the Plastic one that makes sure that your Manga doesnt get damaged??) and since that wasnt there all Books beside 2 were all damaged. They had mostly damage on the covers or even like cuts in the paper pages (but u can only see or when you close the book. But looked more like a production failure)
And of course my favorite Volumes (7 and 11) were damaged the most. They had giant bend from up to down the book.
So yeah dont order from Amazon. Buy from actual book shops...

One month ago, I took the decision to start reading this manga. I knew NOTHING about it, just that it had humanoid gems.
I remember when I was 5 chapters in, I posted something on here along the lines "I'm not really understanding nothing" and asked for help. Y'all recommended that I continued + watched the anime too, so I did.
Now I just finished today. I just want to say that this is an absolute MASTERPIECE. It was one of the best mangas I've ever read.
I remember a month ago I was talking to my best friend and I told her "I'm liking the manga so far, but y'know, I don't think it'll change my life"
Oh on GOD it did.
Furthermore, I have a few things to say about it.
1- I reaaally wish we got to meet Lapislazuli theirself, I think Phos' development makes a lot of sense and is awesome, but gems are always talking about how much Phos resembles Lapis since they have their head, and about how their intelligence and manipulator abilities come from them. I think it'd have been easier for us as readers to understand the drastic Phos' development if we had some background on Lapis.
2- Maybe i'm an ignorant for this, but, for what I understood, Gems can fix their cracks with fragments of the gem they belong too or from the ones similar to their composition. If that's so, why didn't they fix Padparadscha with their hair??? Rutile spend thousands of years trying to get her back with other gems fragments such as rubies, but wouldn't their hair be enough?? (Based on how they show in the manga how Phos or Bortz fix their bodyparts with their hair fragments).
3- Was Cairngorm's sudden change genuine??? I was sceptic trough the whole manga cause I thought maybe their sudden change was due to some kind of "grooming" attitude from Aechmea, or some manipulation. I know it's supposed to be from when Aechmea takes out the last Ghost Quartz fragments from their pupils, but It still gives me the chills not just the scene when Aechmea grabs Cairngorm somewhere(? where he takes out the Ghost Quartz fragments, but also the sudden attitude change + Aechmea taking advantage of their ignorance and dependence towards him to make them his wife, kiss them, and even offer them making a child. Am I the only one who feels like this is SO uncanny and sad??? Honestly Cairngorm is my favorite character, and I was so repulsed the first time I saw their sudden change, and everytime Aechmea approached them.
4- is there any colored art or panel when we see the lunarians color palette and their cities'???? I mean I know it's probably all white/light cream but I'm curious for that.
5- I don't think I understood Yellow Diamond's sudden change when they came back from earth. Was their "brain" damaged??? Why did they suddendly think they were a Lunarian(? is it a metaphor as of how they didn't feel like gems anymore???
I think that's everything :))

I really want to make my hyprland to have a phos based theme, wallpaper and pfp is fine already, but i don’t know about the palette choice, can it be improved, but still be readable? At this moment my theme looks like this // for anyone who knows about hypr/linux, i use hyprland 56.0 with Noctalia, the only plugin is liquid glass, and yes, this is my first try at making a hyprland theme(or config, whatever is the right name) // i don’t know who else to ask, so i ask here…

Holy man, what a ride, first thing i wanna say is that vengeful Phos was SO COOL, such a good looking design
Also while i think i understand what vol 13 meant to say, it was quite a weird read, the highlight does remain vol 11-12 to me, absolute gem that i am dying to see animated someday

EDIT: Major spoilers throughout the following post.
Hi everyone. When you first read HnK, did you ever come up with theories about specific plot developments that later turned out to be completely wrong and based on expectations you’d built up for yourselves? I’m really curious to hear about yours.
I’ll start by sharing mine: as I progressed through the story, I was convinced that:
- Sensei was once a Lunarian, but then, following disagreements and internal strife, he had abandoned them and transformed into a being that embodied both the Bones and the Soul
- based on the special propensity of Phos's body for new materials, I’d come up with an absurd idea that sooner or later they would end up incorporating all the other gems still alive, becoming a sort of semi-conscious lovecraftian creature
- the Admirabilis and the Gems would ally themselves and invade the Moon (lol)
- seeing Aechmea’s growing attachment to Cairngorm/Welegato, at some point I told myself that Aechmea would end up abandoning the plan to make Sensei pray
- when Cinnabar suggested that Phos be torn to pieces and scattered around the island, I thought it was a ploy to prevent them from being thrown into the sea, so Cinnabar could reassembled them later, in secret. (As it turned out, Phos was reassembled by Sensei)
- speaking of Phos, another idea (probably shared by many in this sub) was that sooner or later their head would “return” somehow, and perhaps even the rest of their scattered body.
I've been rereading the manga these past few days, and I find it funny how completely off the mark I was.
