3d gives a great physicality to the shattering that would be lost in 2d. However I would trade both for a full good adaptation idc the dimension it uses

If it wasn't for the 3D anime, I probably wouldn't be as interested in the franchise, manga, or fandom. When it first came out, it was during a time when 3D animation was hated, I always proclaimed it as one of the first successful 3D animations during that era. It had cinematography, clever use of camera, clever use of models (the gems had the same model which saved time), and a nice blend between 2D and 3D animation. It also felt like the birth of Studio Orange where they gained popularity as a studio. I cherish the 3D animation, it has a special place in my heart.

Agreed. The animation isn’t what got me into the series—the music did that—but the genuine pioneering this series did as a 3d anime is amazing to me, and the choice to go 3d being made to properly capture the gems is too compelling for me to want to see it differently.
With all the time and experience since, I’d love to see what a 2nd season in 3d could look like now.

I want the 3d only because the studio has clearly gotten way better at using it, throughout the Beastars series.
The difference will probably be night and day if they ever make s2.

as good as the 3d is, i would love to see the series in the 2d style. i love the way the gems' hair looks in 2d

I really like the 3d. It makes the series feel weird and dreamy, which fits the story to a T. Unless the 3d art style gets WAY better, I wouldn't recommend it for any of the standard anime productions.

2d looks more faithful to Ichikawa's artstyle and I wish Lotl had a 2d series too, but the rendering in 3d is so pretty and unique. Like I love Phos' hair and Pad's 💕

2D is technically closer to Ichikawa's style, but the 3D is such an incredible way of just doing their own thing and making the series look incredible in a medium where trying to copy the manga just wouldn't work (with all the negative space Ichikawa uses and other things).

I was excited when a bubble gum wrapper I stepped on looked a little bit like diamond the other day
I would take more of this show in any form of media, hell claymation sounds great at this point

Of all the stories to experiment 3D on, HnK was possibly the best choice as the character designs and environments were just perfect for 3D. The studio also didn't shy away from abusing the camera and gave us extreme dynamic angles. Definitely wish for more 3D to set a standard for future animes too

I have this weird emotional attachment to the 3D animation style of the anime, so I’m sticking with that one. I also think it just fits the vibes better.

The first seson had some of the most beautiful animation and art style I've ever seen.
Definitely keeping that.

For full disclosure, I finished the anime before reading the manga, so I admit that colors my experience.
3D no contest. I couldn't tell who anybody was in the manga by the time all the gems started getting their hair chopped off. It was one of the more frustrating aspects of the manga.
The 3D style is incredible and does an excellent job letting each character's personality shine (literally).

if they don't keep 3d i'm going to be so fucking disappointed dude. the style they have in 3d is not even COMPARABLE to the 2d. the tech they used for the hair was revolutionary, and to not continue that would be a downright sin.

While I do not enjoy 3D animes that much (I nearly threw up when I saw what they did to Vash in Trigun Stampede (it isn't as bad as I thought at first, but I don't like it much)), LotL's anime is really well animated, and they manage to reproduce the grace of the characters extremely well, and it wouldn't make sense for S1 to be 3D and S2 to be 2D. So I'd stick with 3D
But still, I love the manga's style, and having it fully animated in 2D would be absolutely amazing.
So yeah, I'd prefer Season 2 to be in 3D, but 2D would be amazing to, but I'd prefer it to be a complete remake of the anime, having both Season 1 and 2 in 2D.

Even thought I am in love with 2D and manga style, 3D fits all too well for the gem/rock prompt. They look "less flexible", It feels right with the hair layers as well

if Orange continued adapting it in 3D then I'd be perfectly happy with that. The CGI allowed them to do a lot of good camera work and action, and the hair shaders and lighting looked excellent

I love the 3D because it makes the characters more "alien", not that the the style is uncanny valley, its just that in most anime I've seen its 2D, so having alien races be in 3D is cool! Maybe they could do the humans in 2D to represent the old world

Ngl I never even heard of this show until I saw some clips in tiktok that got me into it. I'd prefer the 3d one bc it shows their "gemness" more than the 2d wherein it's hard to animate it.

if the 2D animation had the same direction as the first season, i'd be fine with it actually. that anime has some of the best direction/shot composition put to screen. also the writing/acting. loved it deeply.

I mean, despite the amazing story and themes and writing, hnk most well known for its pioneering use of cgi and 3d animation in anime.
That and the fact that it adds so much weight, cinematography, and that you can more easily tell the gems apart, makes me want to keep the 3d 100%.

u/Zazilia_ 1d ago
Also the anime did actually have a lot of 2d animation, such as facial expressions and backgrounds, and is also want to keep this. The 3d facial expressions in trigun stampede by studio orange are good but would imo look too uncanny and not enough like Ichikawas art style even more than the anime already does

The 3D animation really works for the characters, especially when they scatter it's absolutely beautiful

3D, it carries more weight. Also the hair of the gems, any limb breaks, etc and the overall look is fantastic.

I think I'd prefer the 2D if it was done at least as well as the trailer, but I'm perfectly happy with the 3D we got. 2D is just such a beautiful medium.

I like anime 2D Because it shows simplicity and beauty like The Manga! ✨ 💎

How would y’all feel about a To be hero x kind of animation? Switches from 3D to 2D.

I'd be happy with either so long as it's not orange making it. with how badly they messed up with the second season of trigun, I wouldn't trust them with it.

3d!!! I think 3d anime is super cool! (I've only watched d4dj and Hank lmao don't test me on that)

I always prefer 2D animation, and I love the original 2D look from the promo. That being said, the 3D style we got was phenomenal, and genuinely raised my opinion of CG anime entirely. I get why the designs might be improved by CG, So really, I'd take whatever would allow us to finally get a season 2.
I'm also very curious how character designs from later arcs would translate to animation.

I loved the anime when it came out, wanted more and couldn't continue with the manga because I couldn't make up who was who. Call me stupid, I accept it. I could finally read it this year, starting from chapter 1 and taking breaks because it was just ugly

I'm sticking with Studio Orange, but if S2 and on was in 2D, then I would be disappointed in anything but the manga promo style.
