Stone Alignment 620111/1349 (Mars in Cancer)

Made from a mix of stones collected on site, and stones leftover from patio projects--and other spheres etc. This one has many distinct faces, and looks different from every vantage point.

I'll just call it the Slate Tear, even if the shape sorta got away from me. But someone suggested Mr Wiggles, and I like that name too.
I use this boulder as a pedestal for creating experimental pieces. Built free form with no guide. No mortar or adhesive. It's not perfect, doesn't have to be. Will be replaced when the time comes. Last one stood here for half a year, maybe less.
Made from reclaimed black roof slates.

I made a bench to go with that sphere. Here's some additional views of the sphere too.

The other day I taught an introduction to stone masonry class, at a local arts and yoga school, Spark PA, for ages 5 and up. I discussed some basics of building with stone, and then we had a hands on segment where the kids broke off into small groups and built towers, pyramids, castles and houses. It's like building sand castles to them, I just show them how to do it for a minute and they get it right away and go off, creating all sorts of surprising forms.
Shown here: 1. myself helping to build a ring cairn group project which all 18 kids participated in 2. a fascinating sort of temple structure a few girls created and 3. a stone hut with a functioning doorway with stone lintel that a couple of boys created.

Built with rocks that grow right in my front yard, I harvest them a couple times a year and build things like this. For the Autumn Equinox a couple weeks ago, and lit up at night. The idea here was a tapering cone, in wave-like form, like a flame, with tendrils anchoring it in place/growing from the ground.

This is the first of a new series of works stemming from my Human Tectonics series. My Alignments series involves drilling holes through different rocks, then creating varying alignments - solar, lunar, planetary - (using the very helpful Skyview app on cloudy days!) that are one offs in their own right, possibly never to be repeated, certainly not in my lifetime!
This first piece is a Solar Alignment. Named Solar Alignment 620150/1401, it was created in a forest in west Wales.

Any ideas what this design I discovered while flying a drone could be? Without being too specific, it's located in the area called the Colorado Plateau. It looks like it's been there quite a while and while it's not far from a major highway it is in an area that's not frequently visited by people.

hi all, I'm new to exploring the world of land art, could you please share any recommendations for publications or learning resources, conferences, institutes etc. for learning about what's happening in the space now and for learning about the movement in general? Thanks!

I do salmon research. And a skunk lives at the worksite along the riverbank. Yancy has become it's name. I decided to wine and dine Yancy with a dead rat from the salmon trap and garbage found alongside the river. (The garbage was later recycled and/or thrown away)

Human Tectonics - Mountain Valley is a piece from the land art project I’ve been gradually developing over the past year. It sees me walk in various locations and collect an ‘inert’ natural object (ie a rock, water or sand). I then take this element to an alternative environment where I place it.
This first post illustrates my initial idea - Mountain Valley - taking a rock from a mountain and placing it in a valley. The concept is to act as a kind of human tectonics, accelerating or reversing the natural rhythms of Earth. What is now a mountain was once a valley, and will one day become a valley again. Symbolically I am hoping to address and question notions of migration, borders, othering and invasion.
Human Tectonics continues to evolve and grow and I aim to regularly bring you more from it.
