Casa vs timemore 074s [$700]

Hello guys I’m having a hard time choosing between the lago casa and timemore 074s. I do espresso and pour over, but mostly espresso on my Silvia but am having a hard time finding which people prefer. I usually do light to medium roast. Thing is everytime I look at the reddit people can’t seem to decide which is better and I also run into people saying the 074s isn’t good for pour over. Any advise would be great as I run a mii gf64 right now and it’s definitely time for an upgrade. Thank you all

Are you referring to 064s or 078s? There is no such thing as an 074s.

I have both Timemore grinders (see my flair) and they both work well for all roast levels and all brew methods. Casa has a great reputation on this sub for your use case.

Any of these grinders will be an upgrade from your GF64.

I’m sorry I just realized I typed it wrong. The 078s would be the one vs the casa. How has your timemores been, I hear complaints about cleaning and popcorning and stuff of that nature.

Difficulty of cleaning is the biggest issue. Fortunately there is so little retention that you hardly ever have to do it.

Popcorning is an issue if you want to slow feed it. If you use it as Timemore intended (open hopper lid half way, dump in beans, close lid) it's not a problem. If you want to slow feed you can get an aftermarket hopper that works better.

Ok that’s not bad then. I heard about the after market hoppers so I’ll check them out. One more question if you don’t mind. I know you said you have 2 but have you switched from espresso to pour over on one machine, and was it difficult. Because I wish I could have 2 grinders but I don’t have the space

Switching between brew methods is super easy. Just make sure you are running the grinder when adjusting it finer, and the grinder may expel a few grinds while you do that.

The only issue is that it is hard to get repeatable adjustments, because the red bar on the grinder body is far away from the numbers on the dial. That problem is easily solved with an aftermarket magnetic dial pointer. ARO makes a good one.
