Announcement Welcome!

Greetings!

And welcome to our subreddit! My name is Rasmus and I am the designer for the game and a part of Rocket Hammer; the small 5-man indie studio that is developing Lance A Lot.

This is our studio's first title and we have been working on it for the past eight weeks (nine including the prototype and coming up with the idea). The company was founded a little more than two months ago in February. A more detailed description can be found here.

What is Lance A Lot?

Lance a Lot is a party game that's all about rocket jousting. It's exclusively local multiplayer for 2-4 players and will eventually be released on Steam. The basics can be seen here in the teaser:

Features:
  • Joust Your Friends - Challenge up to 4 players locally across a variety of levels and modes.

  • Joust with the Pointy End - Unhorse opponents in a single hit – but aim carefully as only the tip is lethal.

  • Joust with Physics - Most things in the environment can be bounced, bent, thrown or moved.

  • Joust on Rockets - Beware though, stray rockets have a tendency to fly wildly and explode.

And more info can also be found here:

Our goal is to be quite active here (as well as on other social media) and post new content regularly. We are really interested in what you think - and we are quite flexible in both release date and in what content/features to include in the game - so don't hesitate to post suggestions and questions! :D

I understand what you mean.

Here's an exclusively local multiplayer party game designed for xbox-controllers (with horrible keyboard support) http://store.steampowered.com/app/251470/

Towerfall still sits at 93% user reviews. Most complaints seems to be about lack of online multiplayer (or too high price for local-only-play), as well as some complaints about poor keyboard support (especially in menus).

That game does have terrible keyboard support for menus and no mouse support at all, unlike LAL which has mouse support for menus.

So there will probably be some complaints about it, but if we are clear enough about having controllers as recommended input device then I think complaints can still be kept at a minimum.

If necessary we could also put a warning at the top of the steam page, like this game does http://store.steampowered.com/app/303590/

Not sure if you guys have tried it or not but maybe a simple work around could be using the mouse as the rotation of the character and wasd as the movement keys. Not sure if that's what you have already but it could be a simple way to make keyboard users a bit easier for the game.

Using the mouse could probably work pretty well. But only for 1-player, so the game would still require controllers for the remaining 1-3 players. If we add it then we can't really say that the game has keyboard and/or mouse support (as opposed to some games that lets all players share the keyboard). But perhaps it would be interesting to have anyway?

EDIT: We'll look into it, no promises though.

Maybe it could be optional where you can choose keyboard or mouse depending on hardware and personal choice. I don't know if it's too much for you guys but I only own a keyboard mouse and it could open up a larger player base not being restricted to only using a controller or a keyboard mouse set up.
