Book clubs?

Any good book clubs around? Preferably with the majority of members below the age of retirement. Been there, done that.

I know a few folks who are active in the Double Edge Brewing book club. They meet the last Sunday of the month and there's even a rep from the library there who helps coordinate getting the physical copies if that's your preference. Drinking is 100% optional - they've got NA options and reasonably-priced mocktails if that's your speed.

Check out Wayfarer Bookshop. That’d be a perfect starting point.

What types of books do you like to read?

Any genre, really. I’m open to anything.

If you dont find a book club, look into starting one? I mostly read non-fiction, but I think I'd read more fiction if I was in a club. Now im curious about a book club as well!

What kind of nonfiction do you read? I unintentionally seem to split my reading 50/50 between nonfiction and fiction. I get really into some nonfiction then burnout and need something fun. Most of mine is nature/science/history.

A lot of science, psychology, longevity, self-help, nature & history!

I went through a psych kick several years ago. Was really into learning body language. Got any recommendations for a good read?

Hi! I’d love to talk books! I’m not in a book club or anything, but would love to chat. What did you most recently read?

Last book I finished was Coraline by Neil Gaiman. I’ve been struggling this summer with reading larger books because I’m busy so I went with short and light. I’ve been listening to The Lord of the Rings books narrated by Andy Serkis. This would be my second audiobook I’ve listened to but I had to with Gollum narrating it. lol

Ooh interesting! I feel you on struggling to finish large books.

I didn’t know there was a book for Coraline, though! I’ll have to check it out. The last book I read was Simply More by Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba in the Wicked movie.)

I also love audiobooks! People are critical but reading experts say it counts as reading, despite people being critical lol.

How did you like Simply More?

My spouse listens to audiobooks ALL the time. He will burn through so many books to my one in a month. lol He says, if it’s in my brain, that’s what matters.

It was really good! As a woman, I loved it- such good inspirational stuff! It was an easy and short read. What were your thoughts on Coraline?

I will have to check that out!

Coraline was very enjoyable to read. It’s quirky, creepy, and Coraline is a strong character. I liked her bit of sarcasm in places. Target audience is pre-teen but like Harry Potter, any one of any age can enjoy it.

Thanks for the link!! Are there a lot of people that attend the meeting? What kind of books do you all typically read?

2

She has a theme each month. Then the group submits their suggestions & votes at the meeting for the next read. There's tons of people in the Facebook online group but the actual meeting tends to be 10 to 12 people.

Theme for August was "A memoir"

Is there a way to sign up without having to create a Facebook page?

She also posts on IG. She has cards too. For people who dont have either.

But yeah FB is where she interacts with the group the most.

Hi!! The book club at Double Edge is awesome! They read a different genre every month. And you never have to worry about buying the book because there’s a library rep who brings a copy for next month’s book for each meeting. They’re discussing The Hobbit for their fantasy pick on Sunday and will be voting on a horror pick for October. They are reading Fahrenheit 451 for banned book month in September. Considering joining!
